So they just took the Tank gameplay mechanic and rolled with it??

I thought the same thing upon reading this.

I would have a loved a new (not Zombie) game in the same vein of L4D but 4vs1 seems kind of crap, at least on paper.

Agreed.

As for Rust, I was looking in to it but when I laid it all out, it's really only half of what I was looking for when comparing to 7DTD. The buildings look smoother but without any form of terrain deformation (that I saw), it just didn't tickle me the right way.

You are correct, at this stage of development there is no terrain deformation in RUST like there is in 7DTD, and I will take an educated guess there won't be any either as compared to 7DTD. The environment is 7DTD is much more interactive, and for what it does, the graphics aren't all that bad either. Again, both are fun in their own right.

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that non-finished games make up half the chart?

Yes and no. "Yes" if it becomes the norm, but "no" if I know it is an Indie developer that I am helping with cash flow in order to continue with the development of a game that already has a solid core and has a lot of potential. My only concern is if they don't complete the game as originally intended and you don't end up with what was promised. In some sense it's not too different from a kickstarter.

I bought 7 Days to Die out on a whim. It's fun but it's plagued by online connectivity issues which makes hosting a public game a pain in the ass. Also, the current world is much too small and, without any kind of random map generation, makes the game far too predictable in regards to construction and survival.

It's definitely an Alpha title, so I got what I paid for but it's easy to see what kind of potential this game will have once they open up the world, bring in random generation, introduce more crafting materials and give the tools to the Steam community. Most of which is coming in the soon-to-be-released Alpha 6 update.

Yeah, agree with your comments. I have been playing most/all standalone to experiment with different stuff and learn and I am having a blast with it. I'm looking forward to Alpha 6 release. There is a lot of potential here no doubt, but for an alpha it is much more polished than RUST. As far as RUST goes, it is fun too, and granted it is still in Alpha as well, but there is still a long way to go with that game. Both are fun in their own way and I am enjoying them both, but mostly 7DTD.....probably because the crafting system/UI is better at this stage and resources are more/easily available which opens up more things to craft. I'm surprised RUST is doing better than 7DTD IMHO.

As far as DayZ SA goes, I was gifted that, so of course I put some time into it, but I wish the graphics were better optimized at this stage, as it is too sluggish and like playing in molasses sometimes, which becomes aggravating after a while. I just don't see DayZ SA becoming more interactive than it is now (i.e. opening cabinets, closets, etc.), which is a shame, but I could be completely wrong. I understand it is still in Alpha, and will be for a while, but they obviously have a lot of work to do, as it is still 'very' clunky.

Yeah, that one left me scratching my head too.

Go SAINTS!!!

Hopefully they don't get their asses handed to them again, it was a lesson learned, and they're out for serious vengeance. Regardless, it's still going to be a tough game for them. I just hope it is a good and close one.

Looks interesting with potential. But as a Free-To-Play with the option of 'Premium Accounts' may be its downfall, unless it is executed correctly.

Brewed up 3 batches of beer over the holidays (all grain), two of which I have to bottle this weekend, which is my least favorite step, but it is always more tolerable drinking a previous homebrew and a friend to help.

Any home brewers here at BN?

I could be wrong, but it looks like the Steam controller allows faster turning/panning that a regular console controller. I don't know, I am just going by what I've seen in videos over time, as I am not a console user/player. /shrug.

Can anyone confirm or deny that?

yeh because it uses a trackpad instead of a joystick.. but you also have a trackpad for movement which has no tactile feedback, so its super clunky and awkward.. also the button placement is funky

not really a fan myself

Thank you for clarification.

"15 years ago the VR headset technology wasn't advanced enough to blow anyone's skirts up"

It wasn`t that it wasn`t advanced enough. The VR headsets released at that time were just low rez because higher rez view screens were so expensive..... adding too much to the cost to build them. But the real kicker was the high premium prices they sold these low quality units for.

For those prices.... the buyers should have gotten a way better product. But most got low rez pixel hell. What has changed is not so much technology, tho obviously that has changed. It is the much lower costs for the higher rez view screens. That is what it is/was all about. Build costs = money.

Not to mention stuff like TrackIR is VERY popular. It didn`t take a Genius to put 2 and 2 together. It only makes sense to finally marry a VR headset to head tracking.

Back in the day peeps payed ALOT of dough for fancy marketing and a headset that gave them a pixelated mess and headaches.

I hope THIS time when peeps pony up, they are not just getting more of the same.... but an actual product that works as intended.

Yes, pricing was/is definitely a factor as well.

These VR headsets were a "craze" 15 years ago, then they disappeared. Suddenly they are reappearing a few years ago, and still only a handful of people seem to care.

Yes and no. 15 years ago the VR headset technology wasn't advanced enough to blow anyone's skirts up, but from what I've been reading/following, it seems the technology is now there to develop the original vision (no pun intended).

I will definitely check them out when they hit retail, and if they work as advertised, then I just have to get past the feeling of looking like an AssHat wearing them.

WTF am I missing? $14.99/Month (~$180.00/year); how is that attractive, or even a deal?

With as many games most people have in their libraries, most unfinished and a lot un-played, I just don't see the logic is shelling out $14.99/MONTH to play a game(s). /shrug

It's not to play "A" game, it's to play ANY of their games.

Let's say Sony hadn't annihilated Star Wars Galaxies and it was still an ongoing, fairly unique MMO. Let's say you play that still. Now, let's say you also want to play some EverQuest. Now, let's say there's an upcoming subscription-based MMO that you're really interested in.

In the past, that'd be 3 subscriptions.

Now it's one.

Because c'mon, you're not playing them at the same time...

*THAT* is the value. *IF* you're interested in multiple subscription-based Sony MMOs then it's a great deal.

... but I'm still burnt from SWG... I miss my dancing wookies!

Makes sense, thanks for clarifications. Definitely cost effective IF that is what you're interested in. Obviously not for everyone; not me as you could tell already.

Cheers

I wouldn't purchase one w/o KB & M support, but I do think this is great for a couple of reasons: 1) I'm assuming it will allow you to play anything in your Steam library (?). 2) Maybe this will incentivize Developers to still port PC games in lieu of console exclusives.

Cool, thanks for info.
