Grin....

Yeah, I sent the link to my Wife, Mom, and Brothers and Sisters, and my Wife fired back, "Oh, like you could do that!". I replied asking her if that was a challenge, and said that is like calling Marty McFly "Chicken'"!!

Other than having to correspond with my TaxWoman, I can pull it off.

I think this is a great idea for awareness. I don't know how many times I've been out to dinner and seen people sitting across from each other engaged in very little to no conversation with their faces lit up by their phones. It's pretty sad.

Other than having to update your site Blue, are you unplugging?

I will be buying this when it goes on sale for $9.99 or less, rest assured.

Something tells me that in spite of the polish and digital Christie Mack, the story of a man and his magic phone that can hack everything in the entire city will get pretty old, pretty quick.

Still, I did enjoy Far Cry 3 when it finally dropped below my price threshold, in spite of the Uplay nonsense.

Yeah, I thought Origin was bad until I had to start dealing with UPlay. Uplay is annoying and it blows.

Good trailer(s); I hope the game is as good or better.

Story seems good and intriguing; hopefully it won't fall flat along the way.

Didn't think this had to be said...

MS makes a lot of money with back-end and business products through contracts. We are talking from a consumer gamers perspective, which is just a very small piece. As a company they are doing great overall, for what we care about, they are not. That is why there has been talks for a long time to split up parts of the company. So in one way we look silly talking about how badly they are doing, but when it comes to what we care about... they are doing quite bad.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Pretty much spot on. Well said!

From a day-to-day business stand point and casual usage (personal eMail, surfing internet, docs, pics, filing, etc) I love Microsoft, and have no issues or the bandwagon-hate for Microsoft. But from a PC Gamer standpoint Microsoft dropped the ball when they shifted their focus to the console market and the PC (from a gaming stand point) was kicked aside like a runt of the litter! This is definitely where Microsoft pisses me off! 'Games for Windows' was an absolute joke, but if they would have embraced, advanced it, and nurtured it like they should have, instead of letting it die the way that they did, PC Gaming would be in a better state than it is today.

It wasn't too long ago I posted something on WTF MS was doing with DirectX and if they'd be releasing a new version anytime soon. The announcement of this new version is good news, but my concerns are the same as what other people posted; hopefully it won't be a Windows 8 and/or Windows 9 exclusive. Sigh....

If that's the case they should lay off the people whose direction resulted in the sub par reviews. Not the people implementing their will. But that doesn't happen as often as it should.
To be fair you can not please a fan boy who's love was a game in the late 90's, as a fan boy with a game in the late 90's its just not going to happen because this period was golden... at least we remember it that way.

The fan boy reviews passed off as objective and professional are a joke and do more damage than the suits.

As a game, there is little wrong with Thief, it's main problem is being called Thief. If it wasn't called Thief, it's main problem would not being called Thief.

Fuck game review fanboys.

Have you even played the game? Whether it is Thief or not a Thief game, there is A LOT wrong with it!

I picked this game up off of Amazon for about $7.99 a while back, but it's still sitting on my shelf and on my long list of games to install/play. I recall some posters here at Blue's News saying it was actually a decent game, but wasn't marketed/handled too well by Activision, which is pretty much in line with this news post.

I could tolerate the second one, though it was clearly a step down. But I hated the 3rd one.

Yes, agreed. The third one was just torture to watch to the point where you were thankful it was the last sequel.

2. Re: Thief (Review) Mar 2, 2014, 14:09 MajorD

Speaking of Thief. Some were interested in some reviews from Blue's Newsers, so here you go.

Likes:

  • Seeing your own character animations when you look down, mantling, sneaking, peering, climbing, etc. gives a more sense of immersion.

  • Character textures and animations are really nice.

  • Map/Level designs are nice, even though they're so small.

  • Player stats at the end of each level is nice.

  • The broad range of UI settings is nice, but at the end of the day it is just parsley on the dinner plate with the game lacking in so many different ways.

  • Dislikes:

  • PISS POOR optimization. I am no game engine expert here, so can someone explain to me why I can play other games that use the Unreal 2.5 and 3.0 Engines, with even better textures/graphics, run all settings at their max, and play silky smooth? The game obviously wasn’t going to be optimized in time of the scheduled release date, which is why the system requirements were much higher than we all expected them to be or should have been.

  • No manual jumping is downright lame! The developer and fan boys can spin it, slice it, and sell it any way they want, but no manual jumping is downright absurd and lazy development.

  • The opening/training level was really bad and gimmicky.

  • I couldn’t even fall off and/or intentionally jump off any beams or catwalks if I tried. Seriously?

Poor QA resulting in bad continuity: Some of the cut scenes were in higher resolutions than some of the others. I’ll have to go back and look, but I believe some or all of the early cut scenes Garret’s eyes were both the same color, but later on in the game (after the opening/training level), one eye was green (mechanical?) and the other was brown.

    Erin was/is annoying.

  • Too many cut scenes/QTEs. Just when I start getting immersed into the game, it is broken by a cut scene/QTE. Good God, they said they removed QTEs? I'd hate to see what the game would have been like if they hadn't.

  • Not being able to read something on the fly when I pick it up and having to hit F1 for my journal and cycle through the menu to read what I just picked up is a serious immersion breaker. The player should be able to read what they pick up right there on the fly, and then go to journal later to read it again if need be.

  • The maps in each level seemed to be broken up into small sections that are interconnected via loading screens that breaks the continuity. Good god, this is 2014! I just remember playing Thief Gold and wandering around in these levels that seemed to go on forever, and that ran on the Dark Engine developed in 1998. I don’t know, the map sizes just seem to be a step backwards in size comparison.

  • Most NPCs throughout the game just seem like set pieces that you can’t even interact with to give ‘some’ sense of immersion.

  • Key bindings for KB & M suffer from consolitis and not very well thought out.

  • Overall thoughts:

I went into this game with an open mind, I really did, but when all these different annoyances reared their ugly heads throughout the game play, it was hard not to be disappointed.

There are some really good things and some really bad things with this latest release of Thief. The game had a lot of potential, but the game didn’t reach the full potential that it could have due to bad development decisions, lazy design, poor game optimization, and too much artistic license. Overall, I'm not very impressed with the development team.

This game is just ‘okay’ on its own, but most likely it will be a major let down for the all true fans of the original two.

Yeah I love all the old adventure pulps and serials so this sort of thing is right up my alley...except that all the reviews say it's pretty bad. I have too much on my plate atm anyway so I'll bite when it's bargain bin - probably the Xmas sale.

I just put a couple hours into it; it's not too bad I must say. Not great, but entertaining. Indiana Jones-ish, with decent balance of puzzles, combat, exploration, etc. Character textures and animation is decent, level designs/environments are pretty cool, it plays very smooth. MUCH more optimized than Thief (4), which is an F'ing PIG in that department.

IMHO, it is worth downloading and playing during the 2 day 'Free Weekend'.

You keep sayig that about Thief. Maybe you're forgetting that Thief actually looks pretty gorgeous? Just saying. Also, the game runs as smooth as butter on my 2 year old rig so maybe it's on your end.

Keep saying? You may be mistaking me for someone else, as I believe that was the first time I 'posted' how poorly Thief 4 runs, but I am not the only one that has stated that complaint.

Regardless, in comparison to other games that use the Unreal 2.5/3.0 Engine, Thief seems 'very' poorly optimized in comparison. For example, I can crank every video setting to maximum settings in Splinter Cell: Black List, and it runs smooth as silk and looks incredible ('much' better than Thief in comparison). But, if I try the same thing with Thief it chokes. Thief just wasn't optimized well, but if it is running well for you, that's good for you.
