If you enjoy behind-the-scenes game development stories, Rob Zacny's article about the development of Homefront is a really good read:

I think the pro packs let you access the operator's menu on each table.

I wonder how they would adapt conventional FPS, pretty much every FPS I can think of except ArmA/OFP, where your view is essentially your aim. How would they solve this for Quake/COD/BF where you're "looking" with the mouse? Some in between solution where you can also aim with your head and the mouse? ArmA would be incredible since the player's head/view has separate controls to the player's aim/weapon.

I see this as a potential problem for any FPS games that haven't been programmed to let you aim your head and gun independently. From what I've read, the Oculus-compatible version of Half-Life 2 (that has been getting rave reviews) was modified by Valve to allow independent aiming. But I doubt many other companies will make the effort to mod their older games in that way.

So short it doesn't have a save function or checkpoints, it seems you just start from the beginning every time you play the game.

I don't understand. Does that mean you have to play through it in one sitting?

Hey cool, they added Minerva's Den to my library for free! I wish I hadn't read all about it and spoiled the twist ending for myself last year, but I was convinced it was never going to come to Steam.

Speaking of pinball, where the eff is Pinball Arcade?
I just listened to a podcast interview with someone from the Pinball Arcade team; he said that the Steam version is being beta tested now and he was hoping it would be ready for release by the end of August.

News Comments > XCOM Enemy Within Announcement This Month?
3. Re: XCOM Enemy Within Announcement This Month? Aug 1, 2013, 10:18 Beckett

I usually have zero interest in DLC, but this is one of the few games that I'd consider purchasing extra content for. Given the success of the game, I thought for sure they'd start cranking out new maps, enemies, and weapons for the game, but from what I've read, the two DLC packs they released were surprisingly lackluster.

News Comments > Deus Ex Human Revolution - Director's Cut Coming to PCs
4. Re: Deus Ex Human Revolution - Director's Cut Coming to PCs Jun 12, 2013, 11:09 Beckett

This is good news. Even though I realize the boss fights were just a small part of the game, they kind of sapped my desire to go back and play Human Revolution again.

If they make those encounters play more like the rest of the game, I could see myself adding this game to my 'replay once a year' list, even if it means I need to buy it again.

The beta for this game was hysterical!

Yeah, during the vehicle sections, I felt like the Benny Hill theme should be playing in the background.

The same rules for Steam sales should apply to GoG's sale. Don't buy anything on sale until the last day because it might come up as a daily deal for a better discount.

But keep in mind, one of the GOG team posted this on the GOG forums:

Not everything will be on sale for the entire period.

Square Enix games will only be on sale for one week.
Bohemia Interactive games and Retro City Rampage only for 2 weeks.

We will have announcements 48 hours before the discounts on these titles stop to make sure everyone knows.

Fileplanet has always been my go-to site for old game demos and patches.

If it goes away, what's a good alternative site for this sort of thing (that won't embed spyware, make me click through 50 ads, or force me to install a downloader tool)?

BTW, I already owned Sanctum (neat game, but you have to like Tower Defense games, as the FPS aspect is pretty basic), so here is the key that came with the bundle for whoever wants it. (The DLC I kept )

Sanctum Steam Code: C522W-BTTK8-4YI9I

Thanks Prez. I nabbed the Sanctum key.
