Cool trailer, but the graphics engine itself is just okay, IMO. That being said, it's good enough (and has to handle a far draw distance), and so it will all come down to the gameplay.

One thing that concerns me is that there's no endgame, so I'm wondering if anyone in the beta can comment how the missions and gameplay work. It's not like Tribes or BF3 where there are missions with goals that end, and you restart. It just goes on forever.

Planetside is a sandbox shooter it doesn't need an endgame. If you watched the E3 streams and the Total Biscuit stuff you would know they have other continents. Any one can jump in and enjoy the game and battles will rage on for hours compared to the 10-30 minute ones on typical shooters.

PvE isn't the point of this game at all.

Right, but that's kind of my point. Imagine WoW for example, without PvE. Would people be attracted to that if they could just kill other people and capture castles or something? I'd think folks might get bored quickly, so I'm wondering what's the long term hook? Weapon unlocks? Achievements?
Gameplay

Its twitch based, its action within itself, its also massive team based, so you are actually playing GI Joe with your friends and in numbers... Casting Spells on your 1-9 keys while drinking a Jolt Cola won't matter, proper flanking, strategies and whatnot apply....
Add in tanks and attack ships etc... Mad fun.. or will SOE fail us with this F2P model?

I'm seriously to the point that MS should just get the fuck out of the game market.. They are clueless money lubbing idiots, that they would market they're way out of the greatest content ever produced, if they could somehow muster up that content.. (Fat chance)

I spent some time TRYING to help them in AOE Online.. what a bunch of asshole snobs they were, and their products and systems were complete shit annoying the fucking people that helped them for FREE, and they're attitudes prove to me, this company can't succeed ever again in this realm.

Yeah, as soon as I seen the DLC on a F2P game totalling over $100, yeah it was obviously another marketing failure before it even started... Nice try, make a game only MAJOR SIM FANS WOULD LOVE, and skip on the SIM, lol failboat 101

Someone needs to inform Nadeo that it takes a focused team to make anything worthy of an "Esport" like they are trying to spin shootmania.

Especially considering how shootmania, in its current form, is a joke.

Ugh, don't be fooled by them trying to capitalize on the term "Nadeo"
UBISOFT is the owner now....

Yeah you guys are taking it out of context, think what ipads/tablets would be without the games..... A coaster... Game support would bring more casuals to the os, whereas just geeks now use it..

Anyhoo, I don't agree with windows 8 destroying the pc market, for starters, its already destroyed... 2ndly, i dont know ANYBODY who carees to invest in windows 8> I am still pissed at the money i spent on vista and windows 7, not doing it again.. for what?

Why would anyone care to waste money for windows 8? its simply too late

Calibrate with your hand on the stick? oO

can't if you remove your hand to flip a cockpit switch etc, reverse effect :D.. The correct answer is that you have to have the stick "low" to floor, so that you can't "rest" your hand on it at all. But the stick has other problems, the cord constantly falls out of the stick, horrible design there.. The drivers are crap, and the centering is also a problem, a lot talk about it.. in my case removing and reinserting the plug recenters the stick... but it has problems beyond this.

The stick also just not comfortable, even with a large hand.. and the hat switches are cheap.. 2 hatswitches on the throttle are unusable, they dont give proper feedback, (false reads) press side, triggers up.. etc..

Shady launch is all I can say... WTF is this? What is the $50 for? Why $12 a month?

After viewing this site, wow X looks so outdated... and i can careless about graphics lol..

Seems no one is investing in Saitek parts, cuz no one supports them.. So i guess Saitek must tap into some old crap to sell more sticks....

Seems like fail to me :/

I was a sucker that bought into the X65F, took me about one day to figure outa main design flaw..

You can't rest your hand on the stick, because your putting downward pressure to the right, making your plane/chopper inputting false input..... Stay away from the x65 guys.. if you must, buy the x52

Attempting to get back on topic after Krovven's usual trolling:

Mike says that they are buffing legendary items in ways that players aren't anticipating, I hope hes being sincere. I want silly shit like "on hit summons 2 skeletons" or "10% chance to cast Meteor at target" type stuff. The game has enough bullshit Slightly Increment Numbers modifiers already. It's an instanced action RPG, they don't need to worry about balance other than making sure everyone can kill shit. There's a reason people liked +skill items in Diablo 2 and while buffing your main DPS stat might be an equivalent in Diablo 3, it isn't represented in a way that is enjoyable to players.

Gear also needs to be less universal to builds. Main Stat + all res + vit or whatever pretty much translate to everything. Most people just swap gear for MF or maybe to throw on a single defensive item like a shield. Heck, due to NV people try to avoid swapping at all. Compare this to Diablo 2 where different builds had drastically different gear setups and you start to see the reduced variety and complexity. A smiter was geared nothing like a hammerdin in Diablo 2. Contrast to that to Diablo 3 where my Wizard can swap from a melee-critmass build to Disintegrate ranged without changing anything. Those kinds of decisions really affect the games longevity value more than they realized.

The class skills/runes really need a redo as well, they went too drastic at the end of beta and really should have tested longer. Looking at my Witch Doctor is a chore, he has so many interesting things and pretty much none of them are viable. Even the summons start dropping off in usefulness in Nightmare, let alone Inferno.
As long as they keep the silly stuff actually useful, it's sad when 100% of the 5-6 legendaries I've seen total in 100+ hours are made even more useless than they had to be by having random stats in useless combinations, such as DEX+INT on a barbarian-only weapon (useless anyway due to far too little DPS).. It's currently like "YAY LEGENDARY!!!!! oh.... :((".. No thanks to +10% chance to spawn a menagerie of dancing leprechauns

Completely agree this being an instanced RPG. They really need to stop balancing drops around a global economy/auction house. The chance of finding anything good in this game is already tiny, so that proverbial carrot to keep you playing is completely missing. In my own experience we're talking less than one usable item in 20 hours of A1/A2 inferno farming. With usable mostly meaning sellable.

I really wonder how they spent all that development time. The core gameplay is solid enough but the game feels *rough* in spots. Really braindead simple stuff that shouldn't have been overlooked with any form of playtesting. It seems obvious that Inferno basically got the "Hell x 50" treatment. Moreover you have silly things like succubi homing blood stars debuffing melee class armor by 50% (i.e. die twice as fast to nearby phase beasts) while ranged classes are merely inconvenience with attack debuff.. Then there's all the completely useless skills/runes, the fact that two-handed weapons are seriously gimpy compared to weapon+shield or dual-wielding, and a whole slew of other things.

You forgot to mention the game is boring and uninteresting and just plain sucks... I'll grind forever, but not in a game that is so pathetically childesh and plain dumb. Grind to the boss and the bosses suck, dont help

Its pathetic really.. I wonder what happens when the pad fad ends...

There's no skill left in the industry... Bunch of fruitie tutie artists own everything and have no clue what real fun is.

I wonder if Acti-Blizz will just buy itself out, or at least the majority of outstanding shares. Oh, wait, I forgot who the CEO is.

Anyone who says that the crash of '83 is going to happen all over again has a very limited knowledge of business and finance. The circumstances are only similar in the vaguest, most stretched reality sense ever.

Guess you have no idea about the causes of the 83 crash then.

Wow, great comeback. In fact, I know a good deal about it, but I refuse to have any sort of discussion with a person who accuses everyone of being a shill when he disagrees with them. You are clearly not worth the time it took me to type this.

Wow, great comeback. Exaggerate much, you wannabe dramaqueen? Me accusing anyone of being a shill for disagreeing? What? Only Beamer and Krovven got that distinction and for good reason. Then again, anyone who goes out full guns like this isn't worth anyone's time at all.

And guess this proved you really know nothing about the crash if this is your best you have to reply. In the future please refrain from talking about stuff you know shit about if all you are going to do is troll.

*snicker*

Its more simple than one can see.. There comes a point in time where you see no more future of growth... Vivendi has always been a buy and sell company.. They see no long term future growth in these products, so sell as quick as possible to those looking for growth and control to get what you can from them.. Take that money and buy other things you do see $$ in

Whats more scary is what would happen to these products if these other companies actually bought them out?

TENCENT running WOW? MICROSOFT? lol kinda want to see that happen just for giggle sake

EA latest announcement subliminally states F2P with their statement, new ways to play SWTOR coming soon.. Of course, all of us analysts knew that F2P was the goal of SWTOR back in beta before launch... somehow the fans are behind the company and happy to see the upcoming change to F2P?!??!! They just ripped you off for over $100 bucks to cover their dev expenses, you clowns need to wake up and stop buying EA games. This was intended! I even had a MMORPG post estimating this exact timeframe (before they mysteriously deleted that post :/

DID WE ALL FORGET ABOUT THE MASSIVE CONTENT REMOVED IN BETA, GUESS WHAT< NOW YOU GET TO PAY FOR WHAT WAS ALREADY THERE!

Bullshit, they are trying to force the consumer into their digital accounts and failing.. When i just moved, i had DSL as a back and wanted it to come to my new place.. AT&T came up with this nonsense, this is a UVERSE area you must get UVERSE, i said, no thanks cancel... The sigh I heard on the other end that i was cancelling was proof they are losing the battle.... This post must be financed by AT&T to cover up failure.

To end the story, be carefule with AT&T, she told me NOT to pay my bill, i would receive a final prorated bill for $9.. To no surpise i got a bill 2 months later for $40, trying to bill me for 2 more months of DSL service... lol.. they do this so they can send to collections and fuck up your life.. all the reason why you should drop AT&T, Tmobile and anything else they purchase.. While I liked one of the vids, it almost looked like it might get close...but this online silliness, I don't know.

The first Most Wanted, was my favorite, true of many other NFS fans that have been waiting...

While Criterion may have been one of the better things to the NFS series in a while, it looks like they might blow this too...

10-15 years ago, games weren't being made childish, for stupid kids so they can compare themselves, so they can daydream they are cooler than their 'friend'. The games weren't designed in THAT WAY AT ALL.

"In Need for Speed Most Wanted, everything players do earn them Speed Points which are used to compete to be the Most Wanted amongst their friends" said Matt Webster, executive producer at Criterion Games."

So you changed the whole premise of the game. It's not Most Wanted by the police action game that is the very core. But now how can I make one child jealous of another child...
Now Billy will want to be cool like me, because I am Most Wanted.
That is not competition at all, that is insecurity, and it sounds just like EA.

We just liked the great game play in "NFS:Most Wanted" that people have been asking for for many many years, but EA always failed...

Dumbing down game concepts to get a bunch of children online just being jealous of each other and calling it competition, sound like a great premise EA. As if that is the crowd I want to play with. I hope they come to your forums and leave what is deserved.

I definitely DON'T want any speed points and DON"T want to be Most Wanted!

Having said that, it's not necessarily over for me yet, my Logitech FF MOMO is waiting, lets see if you are willing to give the PC some love. Focus on the core game not online or speed points, and I will come around vocally and financially. Although, with the online push of wasted dev resources, doubtful.

Choices.
Make a game that sells 200,000 copies and becomes a classic
or
Make a game for morons and sell 500,000 copies and become
laughing stock of intenet..

I bet EA chooses door number #2 10 outta 10 times,

They destroyed the industry.. they don't buy out the best studios to control their ip's and talent.. They buy them out to destroy them and control and dominate the complete market.

Everyone needs to wake up and quit buying EA titles...

I guess you play Diasko 3 ?and if so forget about this "Hopefully they will get rid of this DRM" because you accepted it with one game tho not the other....Thats wierd don't ya think

Although you can draw a comparison between Uplay and Battle.Net, it really isn't that cut and dry. Even though anti-piracy is a big win for the publisher in how B.Net functions, it at least makes a honest attempt of giving the user features and security in exchange for the annoyance that is DRM. Blizzard has no legitimate reason for not offering an offline mode to D3, but to say their DRM scheme is the same as Uplay when it comes to user acceptance leaves out the added value B.Net offers.

I suppose though, in the end they are both still shackles that hamper your gaming experience, and a solid gold shackle with gems and shinies in it isn't much better than a cold iron one, but at least B.Net makes an effort to make up for it. If that effort isn't enough for you though... Well, don't buy any of their games. Problem solved.

Blizzard has no excuse for D3 being online only? Are you a Baboon who learned how to type? Here's one reason.. Server side control of drops, which alleviates all types of hacking, duping, and online auction house protection.. Sad you don't get to play D3 offline, but being a moron to condemn it... Sorry, blithering idiot alarm has sounded.

I can with a smile say i was unaffected and never will be..

On another note, UBI sales might be hurting and this might be staged, so they can squirm out of the announcement of the DRM removal...

Cuz its obvious apologies and admittance of being blithering idiots from a company such as this is never going to happen.. And definitely wouldnt help, we will still spit in their faces.

Anyone who falls for this is a true sucker..

No one remembers how EA ripped off its customers selling BF3 beta access for the flop game Medal of Honor? If this was April 1st, I'd be laughing my ass off.. But if this is true, my dream of suing EA for fraud may come to life.

They sold Medal of Honor, and gave BETA access to BF3, not even 2 weeks before release, and 24 hours later they released OPEN BETA, basically slapping any clueless kid who bought into their BS marketing scams..

They are doing it again? OMG, they serious think their customers are blithering idiots... And its starting to look like they are...
