I loved the game, but never actually beat it. Got as far as the hidden voodoo lair/meeting place, I think. What sticks in my head the most was the background music, perfectly suited for each screen. The church organ, the little band in the park, etc.

I just can't play games sitting on a couch or on the floor in front of my TV. Partly it is due to back problems, and partially due to the fact that I just can't get into the experience that way. I need to be sitting upright at a 24-26" monitor in a comfy office chair.

There's nothing stopping you from hooking your game console up to your monitor for controller-friendly games (racing games etc), though. I use a $10 HDMI switchbox so I can toggle between PC and PS3, and if your monitor has multiple inputs you might not even need that.

Only Rockstar knows for sure how much they've made from the PC version of GTAs but judging by how HUGE the mod community is for the games and the fact that GTA IV is at the number 35 spot on top played Steam games it would be extremely silly of them to neglect their PC fanbase.
They had better do a better job of porting GTA V than they did with GTA IV, though. According to Steam, I put 5.4 hours into that before giving up on it. I had just finished GTA:SA (70 hours), and was hoping to have the same fun. It's hard enough to get through a single mission without the game crashing, and when it was working (at 30 fps with hitching), the cars drove like boats on stilts. Currently playing Rage, which apart from the embarrassing texture pop, looks 10x better and runs at 50-60 fps with no visible stuttering.

Flip through the original XtremeSystems forum endurance thread while you wait. The winner was the Samsung 830 - its wear indicator hit 0 at 828 TB, eventually died after handling 6294TB of writes, and was still averaging 300MB/sec writes. Unfortunately the thread sort of petered out, so there are no results for current models.

In most password storage systems, the salt is a random value prepended to the password before hashing and is stored in the clear, next to the hash. It's main use is to reduce the likelihood that two users with the same password have the same hash in the database. Even if two users have 12345678 as their password, chances are that their salts are different, and an attacker will have to crack both passwords individually. Salting also makes rainbow tables a lot bigger.

Yeah, this'll last all of a month.
This seems overly optimistic.
Remember, you get 30 days of game time when you initially buy it :)

I seem to remember years ago playing a demo of a game written in Lisp. It was a platform game if I remember and the graphics were very impressive, on par with other A-List games of the time. All I remember was controlling a lizard kind of creature. Wish I could think of the name.

I believe you're thinking of Abuse, by Crack Dot Com. The level and AI logic is Lisp, but the game engine itself is C++.

You're level 14 right now. Holy freaking cow! "Director of Acquisitions" indeed! Get 19 more games so we can see what the next badge is called

I sure hope so. I'd have downloads I knew were going to take 8 hours and the estimate was always like "40 minutes" the entire time.

The Puzzle Agent games need to get more attention; I loved the dry humor in them. Who wouldn't like games featuring Nelson Tethers, employee of the FBI's Department of Puzzle Research, investigating strange doings in Scoggins, Minnesota?

The robotic fly is amazingly cool but I couldn't help but notice it was tethered. I'm assuming the thin wire was for power. When will battery or "engine" technology catch up and be able to power this thing autonomously?

I don't remember where I first saw this short film, but I always think of it when I see "robots the size of a fly" stories: Les ailes de l'ombre

In fairness the size of the phone for the Galaxy S3 makes it harder to do things one handed. On my old phone, droid incredible, the size was great for operating the thing one handed. Trying to use the S3 one handed is kind of a joke but I can't say I want to go back to the smaller screens. I'm glad I didn't move up to the Samsung Note though, was considering buying that but after adjusting to the size of the S3 I'm glad I didn't.

I think even the iPhone 5's screen is too big. I can't reach the upper-right corner of my iPhone 4s's screen when it's in landscape mode, so any app that has a button over there is really hard to use. Phones can be too big, and they can be too small. If it's bigger than my wallet or smaller than my keys it doesn't belong in my pocket.

Better do your beekeeping quick Cutter, before Colony Collapse Disorder wipes them out!

I haven't read comics in ages (does the Watchmen movie count?). Recent books:

  • Wool - A community of people living in an underground silo, where the surface had been poisoned. Expressing a desire to go outside is a crime, punishable by making you go outside. I dare you to read Chapter 1 (free, a standalone short story) and not get the full book.

  • Altered Carbon - In the future, a person’s consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body, making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen, and making murders a whole lot easier to solve. Sometimes. I know, old and has been mentioned here before, but still worth reading. 1st of a trilogy, all pretty good.

every Logitech mouse does the dbl-click thing after extended use. take it apart and you'll see that the little bar that depresses the actuator button is made of the same soft plastic the rest of the mouse is. After a time it will become squashed and misshapened just enough that it will no longer firmly 'click" the actuator causing a double-click.

Haha. I bought a couple $10 "Logitech Optical Mouse" mice like 10 years ago and the little plastic bars on all of them bent just like you say :) I think I taped a little bit of paper over the bar to extend it a bit. I should try out one of those newfangled mice someday, but I don't think these ones are ever going to die.

I guess they had to make a lot of hard choices to get the price as low as it is. That probably includes dropping an RTC (which is unneeded on the B, and would push the price of the A pretty close to the B), and using the Broadcom SOC. I'd get one, but I don't know what I'd do with it.
