Looks like we'll be able to play in more periods of Max's life than in Brazil; there were a few scenes that looked very much like New York.
Have to admit I was put off by the direction this game took at first, but now I really want to play it. |

Why not save the criticism for something that actually deserves it? I'd say using CryEngine is good news so far. |

Nice, I'm looking forward to this.
As long as the multi-player is solid I can forgive the lack of a single-player component. Sure SP is nice, but every MW always relies on MP for lasting appeal.
Hopefully focusing on MP will allow them to put more resources and flesh out the gameplay more. |

Fuck realism, battlefield is about arcadey gameplay in a semi-realistic setting. Completely against the spirit of Battlefield, and against the spirit of gaming.
Exploits are never a valid tactic. Wing walking in BF1942 wasn't a valid tactic and should have been patched out. Bunny hopping has never a valid tactic either. What is different about these and exploiting outside the level, which would typically get you kicked/banned? It's not an exploit (like hiding in buildings, making you invulnerable), it's an unintended gameplay quirk (like skiing in Tribes) that takes skill to pull off and still leaves you vulnerable. One is taking advantage of game limitation to play in a way that the developers didn't intend and that fellow players have no reason to expect to face, the other is taking advantage of a game limitation to play in a way that the developers didn't intend and that fellow players have no reason to expect to face.
Standing on a MAV isn't realistic or semi-realistic, it is exploiting the limited physics engine. Dude, your first sentence is exactly the same as your second...
IMHO they shouldn't call it a vehicle then, as it's kind of a misnomer if it's not meant to transport people or cargo. It seems like it requires too much coordination and time in the game to be a very effective and unbalancing tactic anyways.
of course it's not against the spirit of gaming, that's ridiculous. competitive gaming is ALWAYS about finding ways in the game to win.
Is it an exploit? Sure. Cheating? Definitely not. |

| Definitely the method is sketchy, but it doesn't give snipers an unfair advantage or anything. In my opinion snipers should be able to get to the top of most of those towers and rooftops anyways. |

It's not a troll. You're just upset that I disagree with your viewpoint. He clearly says that they'll still be adding to the game post release, so although it might be 'officially' done, I doubt that they won't add anything new at all post release.
And any modder knows that charging for a mod is very much likely to kill the chances of anyone ever playing their mod, not to mention the backlash that would happen in the modding community and the very questionably legal status of even trying to do so.
What MC should be is whatever Notch wants it to be. I don't remember him promising any grand plans for the game and falling short of them. I really hate this sort of self-entitlement. |

There is a market for other shooters, but it is not big enough to sustain a multinational corporation like EA oder ActiBlizz. These companies have to go for multimillion dollar revenues and the mass market, they cannot afford to make games for a smaller target group. Um, I think that's pretty much exactly what I said. The majority of the market wants games like CoD, so that's what we get from the big devs. It doesn't work the other way around. |

Game is a blast - don't care what else they throw in or don't. It is fun. It is COD. What more do you want? Something that isn't CoD.
I'd love to see more ambitious and interesting shooters that experiment more with things like traversal and combat. CoD doesn't do that. It's about as bog standard as it gets. And I'd like to see shooters that aren't your typical, ultra-realistic, die in one-shot, 13 year old, gun porn, warfare simulator. But alas, the market has spoken, and the market shall get what it thinks it wants. |

Grokk wrote on Nov 16, 2011, 01:38: There are a couple of mods that add 'plugin' support, so you can just drop other compatible plugins into a plugin folder and they just work.
The catch I guess, is you still need to inject the initial mod into the jar file before the rest works. Exactly, and that still doesn't help for servers. Basically my hope is that if you connect to a server that needs mods it will either redirect you to the download site or download the mods automatically. (Provided that there's some way to ensure users don't download any malicious addons I suppose) |

Minecraft desperately needs mod support, especially for servers. There's a lot of cool mods I'd love to use on my server, but it's really too much to ask everyone to all install the necessary mods before they connect; not everyone is comfortable with the amount of work mods need right now.
As for whether the mods are compatible or not, there will always be that sort of problem, but with an official way to load mods there will at least be some sort of standard for it that will be more accessible for the average user.
Also, hopefully mod support means there will be less obfuscation of the game code. Every new release that comes out has to be checked over and worked into a format that makes it comprehensible for the average modder. |

Dev wrote on Nov 14, 2011, 19:38: Upcoming features may or may not be in the release version. For instance, dual weilding is in that list. I'm interested in what's the major changes (specifically new features) between a year ago and now, not what might change in 2012.
As for bugs being listed differently than new features. Sure. Did you read it? Its mostly things like "New settings in Server.properties: view-distance, allow-nether" and "New Bow shooting sounds" neither of which I care about.
Even if I stick to JUST the new features list on that link, its not a trivial amount of time (unlike your claims) to read that 50 page document.
In addition, with some changes, its hard to tell if they are trivial or not. Whatever man, if you actually visited that link you'd see that what's clearly in the 1.0 release section WILL be in the next release.
The features are listed differently, some releases don't have anything but bug fixes. For those that do have new features the most major additions ARE RIGHT AT THE TOP OF EACH ENTRY. If you want to know if it's a trivial change or not just click on the link that they so generously provided that will take you to a page with more details about it. How much easier do you need it to be?
It sounds to me like you'd rather have something tell you why they think you should play MC rather than making a qualified decision for yourself. |

Razumen wrote on Nov 14, 2011, 19:26: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=new+minecraft+version+features Sweet, lmgtfy, my favorite site!
It leads me to this: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Version_history
Which is a GIANT fricken document detailing changes down to the minute. I don't really care about "Fixed Redstone circuits not working after /time set x glitch is now fixed in SMP."
What I want to know is significant features in the last year since they added portals. And I'm not feeling like spending a couple hours reading that giant 50 page document.
Plus a word search for "enchant" turns up ZERO hits in that changelog. Then don't read the bug sections, they're very clearly marked differently from the sections they detail new features. There's been a lot of new changes, don't blame me if you're too lazy to do the tiny amount of work to read what they are.
This is for upcoming features, which would have enchanting in it: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_features |
