Cutter wrote on Sep 29, 2010, 14:02: Grifter, you seriously need to start learning about actual history. Your ignorance is really telling. And yes, to everything you mentioned religion was a major part, or thee major part of everything you mentioned. Your actual level of practical knowledge on this subject, coupled with your atrocious grammatical skills peg you at about a 6th grade education. Rely on your brain, not god, mmmkay?
And I've never played any of those games you mention save DOOM, and those were extra-dimensional creatures, not demons from hell. And again, those games aren't about indoctrinating anyone, this one is. Jesus, man, learn to think critically if you can.
its easy to insult someone, but do you have any real argument to counter my argument. I gave examples of why i thought your argument was unsound.
But your rebuttal is just insults.
Did I touch a nerve, Did I get under your skin?
I am sorry but I thought we were having an adult conversation but, I guess I was wrong.
If religion was a major part of what I just said then please enlighten my ignorance, since you seem to be the authority on the subject.

How many wars, crusades, inquistions, and attempted genocides have been caused by religion vs. patriotism or sports games? I can't even think of a single war caused by the latter, and even though those things may play a part religion is almost always the overriding factor, and always part of it in some way, shape, or form.
Hello Nazi's were very patriotic and they used there patriotism to start ww2 and that's right we can't forget those patriotic japanese during ww2.
Hmm what about Lenin's revolution in Russia. was that started by religion. or the Korean war or the vietnam war or the one with russian in afganistan.
How about those patriotic Rwandan tutsi's and there genocide attack to overthrow the hutu led government in rwanda.
How about the wars in the El Salvadorian civil war or the communist overthrowing Cuba.
How about the American Revolution and George Washingtons patriotism
I could go on with WW1 and the wars that broke up Yugoslavia all about people being patriotic.
there are no wars i can think of started by sports but there are a bunch of riots because ppl get mad because there soccer team lost or won.
You hate religion good for you, but there is no reason for you to go on a hate crusade against a game about the bible
would you done the same if it were a game on, hinduism or taoism or shintoism or islam.
I bet you loved Gods of War a game about religious figures.
It's okay to play doom which has demons in it again religious figures.
Or games like Zone of enders which they named there giant robots after Egyptian religious deities
Or final fantasy which names there characters after babylonian characters I even remember one of the creaturss you could call upon in that game was Baphomet, which is another name for the devil ewww another religious figure.
oh no that is all perfectly fine with Cutter
But make a game about the bible which is a book then all of the sudden that is a no!!! no!!!
You are a hypocrite Cutter

It's like people have a license to hate, because its on the bible instead of just treating it like millions of other text that are in existence Because millions of other stories haven't been responsible for most of mankinds woes like religion has - specifically Xtianity leading the way. There are games with Nazi's in it, and how many lives did they destroy?
There are sims about the roman empire, hmm I wonder how many lives they destroyed in there quest for there great empire.
Also if you look at what the game is about its not even about christianity its just about the bible.
Abraham and the book of genesis was written 2500 years before christianity so how is it about christianity
man people are so ignorant

these guys are bunch of morons.
They indicated the arcade version is basically the pc version so there is almost 0% development cost. even if its pirated you would still make a profit you don't have to develop and if it was digital only manufacturing cost would be zero.
So how do they lose even if it is pirated?
Your only cost would be marketing and you really would not need that even just a couple of articles about it in the pc section on ign and and a preview vid on steam should do it.
People on pc who would play this game would buy it because no one buys a fighting game for campaign mode.
They buy it for the multiplayer
it makes no sense

You can no longer enjoy a game but have a complaint about it without being attacked by a pack of apologists and fanboys. I like Valve but to say that the development of episode 3 has been anything but a huge disappointment on every level is insane. Exactly. It's amazing how with some people the developer can do no wrong and the community is always at fault for everything. I have to ask what development of HL2 eps 3 are you referring too
there is no development

Grifter wrote on Sep 15, 2010, 23:26: I disagree with this completely, if they were working on it they would at least tease. But having to be asked and then Gabe saying I don't have to answer says alot. And I disagree with THAT completely. There's been numerous games that weren't revealed while they were working on it until close to launch.
The reason with valve is, remember hl2? How they had to delay it for an entire YEAR and didn't announce it until like a month before the planned release? They blamed a hacker for that one.
Anyway, just look at blizzard. They didn't announce SC2 or Diablo 3 until reasonably close to release, despite that they've been working on them for quite a long time.
Game companies that are secure in their future and making money have less reason to announce games as soon as they start working on them. They want to wait until they have a significantly complete game that they are pretty sure they can release. They also want to concentrate the hype time period into a shorter time so people will still be hyped up and wanting to purchase it, instead of just tired of it. Like DNF, thats been hyped for so long, a lot of people are just like STFU I don't want to hear about it. Plus, if a company announces too much about a game too far in advance, other competing companies can just take those announced features and integrate them into games before the games release.
Its like how apple keeps products secret until near release, despite working on them for years. There are good reasons to do that.
When valve started work on l4d2 before the release of l4d1, do you think they released news about that? No that would have been stupid, and it would have killed the sales of l4d1.
I agree with some of the other posters here, the most likely reason they don't want to talk about it is because they are doing HL3 instead of hl2 ep 3. They want to coordinate the announcements with some event complete with game footage and probably people playing part of the game itself, and if they talk about it ahead of time, that reduces the impact of the announcement. That may be fine with what you think but Hl2 episodes is unique in what you are saying and here is why
If we remember back around 2005, 2006ish episodic was all the rage with all these game devs.
They thought they could sell us on the idea of episodic content where you would pay 20 dollars for 4 to 6 hours of a game. You had sin episodes which did not work out, you had the tomb raider series they were going to try, u had kuma wars(wonder if that stille exist and others)
Then along comes Gabe Newell with Half life episodes Him along with all these devs thought this was great they could get feedback from players and then could implement features and so forth in future episodes. the problem was that devs could not get it to work , they found they could not produce content in a timely manner that is consistent with episodic content. The reason for this is that they did not follow the model that is used for other episodic content, such as tv shows, comics and so forth. That model is when u bring out episode one. You have already made content up to episode 4 or 5 and are now working on episode 6.
But still devs insisted they could do this, so we were like okay. Now we got hl2 episode one in the spring of 2006 which was around 1 year and 1/2 from the release of hl2 that came out in the fall of 2004.
Then we get HL2 episode 2 in the falll of 2007 about 1 year and 1/2 after episode 1 that came out in spring of 2006.
We are also told by valve that half life episodes is HL3.
Well if they are following the episodic content model they would have to release the same 4 to 6 hours worth of content 1 year and 1/2 after the 2nd episode.
Valve then also announced they would abandon the episodic model after episode 3.
It's been almost 3 years now and there has been almost no news on the 4 to 6 hours of content for the final episode.
And then to add insult to injury Gabe Newell asked in an interview to comment on it simply does not answer.
In my opinion that is a load of bull !!!! Gabe said he had 3 big surprises coming within the next year or so he could had said that maybe its one of our big surprises but, you will have to wait and see. (but then again gabe said he had a big surprise at E3 and it turned out to be steam for ps3 )
But just silence, that says a lot!!!
If they had something to show they would tell you but they have nothing , nada , zip, nyet ,eiya!!!!
I have no doubt at some point in the future there will be some other iteration of Half life
but as far as HL2 eps 3 is concerned its vaporware and I don't believe it will ever see the light of day
But then you can just look at valves track record remember TF2 from 2001. It did eventually come out in 2007 but looked nothing like what they showed in 2001 (which is not necessarily a bad thing)
HL2 episode 3 = vaporware

Beamer wrote on Sep 15, 2010, 23:02: We're the reason they don't say anything.
When they said stuff about HL2 and it slipped we bitched endlessly (and by "we" I mean the fanbase, and the community here possibly in particular.)
When any game a decent ways out gets discussed we bitch that it's being hyped.
Valve, after being flayed for this, has decided it's best to not say anything until it's close to launch. Can you blame them? Just go look at any HL2 thread on Blues from pre-launch. I disagree with this completely, if they were working on it they would at least tease. But having to be asked and then Gabe saying I don't have to answer says alot.
It says the reason why they don't say anything is because they are not doing anything with it.
If they were doing something they would have given a tidbit but the truth is HL@ episode 3 is vaporware. It does not exist.
Surely if it did exist we would have gotten some screen shots or at least Gabe would have said something like. "We are working on it but there are thing's we want to do in HL2 eps 3 that are completely unique and right now we are developing the tech to do that, but it may be a ways off before we have a finished product", Instead we get silence. Tells me everything I need to know
there is no development of HL2 eps3.
Think about it HL2 eps 3 was suppose to be only 4 to 6 hours worth of content.
IT's been 3 years since eps 2 and all Gabe can come up with is silence
in my opinion HL2 eps 3 is certified vaporware |
