Here you go guys, the reward for buying Diablo3! Now everyone knows PC gamers will buy always online DRM and now everyone will implement it!

Hope D3 was worth ruining the experience of PC gaming.

Not surprised at the comment... Really not surprised at the person...

Ya know, because D3 was the first to do this...

At this scale of sales? Yes, yes it was the first to do this, to be a commercial success. Why the comment? Did you bought D3 and now regret that the real implications of supporting such a DRM are starting to show up?

ever since GoW their attitude has always been to have a security net in the form of a publisher for all games they publish.

Not really sure what "security net" you mean, given that Epic finances themselves. Also, you mean "develop" with that last one.

Maybe you're a "whiny cunt" that does nothing but bitch about games you don't like and publishers you don't want to buy from? Maybe you should just, I don't know, stop paying attention to the part of the hobby you're no longer part of? Maybe you should stop taking it so personally and reading things that aren't there?

Heh, you still got some kick in your answer but no, gaming is my hobby, all of gaming, and I've long decided after dealing with years of bullshit that the best way to deal with bullshit is to be brutally honest about it. As for me bitching, well, it would be if only it wasn't the truth. Epic doesn't care about PC gamers and are very assholish about it. PC devs not so assholish since they do get money from them but PC gamers? Total disregard. Yes they did the UE and they help indies, they still treat PC gaming publicly as a leprous market.

But I rather be a "whiny cunt" by your standards than a terrible apologist like you. At least I don't kiss corporate ass.

And there is no publisher for this. Epic, being very, very wealthy, hasn't had a true publisher relationship. Ever. And this is already looking like it will be self-published. It's almost definitely online-only and probably f2p. Epic has more than enough cash to do that on their own, probably a few dozen times over. In the past publishers were used solely for marketing (and they now have an in-house team and are hiring) and for distribution (which would now be Steam and maybe some other digital storefronts.)

I call them for what they are, if you can't handle raw honesty find something else to read then. I call as I see them and yes, they are very much a pack of cunts who only whine about PC piracy and people not buying their games while producing derivative crap all the time.

You are getting pretty epically worked up there (ba-da-bump)

Oh, I would pay to see that.

You may get your chance:

3/12/2012
"The campaign wouldn't start until after the release of Fez, which Fish is concerned about: "I'm afraid people might take [the Kickstarter] the wrong way. Like, 'Why do you need a Kickstarter, you just made Fez?' Yeah, but it takes five months before we get paid, maybe, it's totally variable, but at least three months. The best case scenario is we get paid three months after the release. I don't want to wait three months.""

It's like the guys hobby is burning bridges or something.

Edit: Clarification, this would be a kickstarter for a new game not a PC port.

Cue people writing in the KS page "But my PC can only handle spreadsheets and this looks too complex for my spreadsheet PC to run. Sorry, can't backup this project."

Let's admit it, the potential for many laughs is here and this guy sure needs a piece of nice humble pie to put him in perspective of what being an indie really is.

And as for Epic self-publishing, possible but I can't recall the last Epic game that was self-published since GoW started as a franchise and as such I doubt they'll self-publish here, ever since GoW their attitude has always been to have a security net in the form of a publisher for all games they publish.

Yeah, they're hiding something. You don't put out a press release stating only "earnings and sales" at the end of your financial quarter... I'm looking through the investor section of their site and they have no legitimate report posted since the end of FY2012 in May. They probably only give it out if you fill out that form to request one mailed to you.

Well investors are legally entitled to receive a fully detailed earning report so I don't think they have anything to hide. However it makes all these sales press releases meaningless. Sales may rise but if costs rise higher than sales than having a net loss has more impact than rising sales.

I get so many comments shouting at me that I’m an idiot for not making a PC version. ‘You’d make so much more money! Can’t you see? Meatboy sold more on Steam!’ Good for them. But this matters more to me than sales or revenue. It’s a console game on a console. End of story"

Wow that's a pretty stupid thing to say less than two months before you hint that you're going to make a PC version.

edit: wow that guy is a total moron

For those who hate twitter he says:

"Boo hoo, PCs are for spreadsheets" in response to a fan question.

For heaven's sakes, someone, SOMEONE, has to resend all these tweets back to him if/when he announces a PC version. I have a feeling his responses will be LOL worthy.

Despite what I say here I don't like rubbing it in on people but this guy sure as hell deserves it for his asshattery. After all he may come to us to ask for our money after he insulted us PC gamers like that.

Well, Diablo hasn't been pirated yet but I believe some group did release a copy of Battlefield 3 for "offline single play".

Actually it has been for quite a while through the use of a server emulator that actually updates with the real Blizzard server so anything that happens at Blizz's server side the pirate emulated server also gets it. Hence the always online DRM has also failed at preventing piracy or even an offline SP experience.

This is about BF stuff, not other games soooo

Do research, it's true man. They gave the client a ridiculous level of access and control, the hacks can do pretty insane things and obtain unusual levels of subtlety that would normally be caught due to the lack of things like Battle Recorder and etc.

Trying to argue with a BF3 fanboy is as useful as arguing with a console fanboy.

Uuuh... Sales is not the same as Net Gain or Net Loss which in the end is what matters. This press release only mentions sales but not anything about costs.

So.... you should actually wait for the actual net result before you bait like that.

If he back peddles any faster he might break the sound barrier.

And now people know why I was so aggressive against him. Indie or mainstream, if a developer is an asshole then I won't feel an inch of pity when their game fails, especially if that dev had all the proof in his face that his game would fail and still went on with it.

Someone should tweet his quote back to him to see what he responds just for the laughs.

1) This game has no publisher
2) That "representative" is the lead designer

1) Epic releasing a game without a publisher. Right. Santa Claus is also coming for milk and cookies. The time they would release anything without publisher backing is long gone.

2) Then that makes the interview all the more distressing since the very lead designer of the game has no idea of the focus of the game. Co-op is fun! SP is super fun! MP is the focus! SP is still fun! Holy shit if this was a sales pitch or an interview for another industry his product could be legitimately considered DOA.

Epics are cunts, they became cunts once they tasted money and they will always be cunts until a major event humble them and so until that time I trust nothing of what they say and neither should any sane PC gamer to whom Epic has showed up to this point nothing but utter contempt.

They'll blame piracy on PC and the evil PC pirates if the game fails to sell, even if it has always-online DRM. Calling it now.

Congrats. You've spent money and gotten nothing in return. And you won't for another 12+ months.

What's more irrational? Always-on DRM or people who pre-order video games?

How about me then? I didn't buy D3 but will buy T2 since it will be as good or better at a 1/3 of the cost.

Oh I was addressing those who bought it. Those who didn't, well, I wish there was far more of us so developers wouldn't throw these ideas around anymore. If Blizzard had failed to sell in significant numbers an always-online DRM I think that message alone would be loud and clear enough for developers to simply stop trying to pull that shit.

After all if a Blizzard game had only modest sales on a PC no other developer would have even a glimmer of hope of their always-online games to sell even a handful.

Blizzard is now my new "one trick pony" developer. WoW was a huge success and they've proved that their new games aren't at the same level of quality or enjoyment. $60 for a thrown together hack-n-slash; I feel like such a sucker for purchasing it. An indie developer could have done a better job in a shorter period of time and put a price of $15 on it.

Wouldn't it at least be a three trick pony with Warcraft, Diablo and World of Warcraft?

And Starcraft.

Hopefully this will serve as a warning to other indie devs that going to Microsoft won't solve any of your problems but just add to them.
As nin said, he learned his lesson the hard way. Glad he's being vocal about his troubles with MS to serve as a warning to others, but there's no reason to be a massive jerk about it.

I'm always a massive jerk about everything.

To be honest this guy was pretty, pretty vocal about not going to other platforms in the past. It almost sounded as if the xbox was a gold mine he alone was going to explore and as anyone was expecting he was wrong. So yeah, he learned his lesson and hopefully everyone will take note.
