| Rift is actually a pretty good MMO and the team behind it has updated it frequently and well. Don't play it anymore but might fire it up again when it hits F2P. Haven't played Defiance, but my experience with Rift was positive, Trion seemed like a good developer who listened to feedback and had good, free updates quite often. Sorry to see people lose their jobs. |

ItBurn wrote on May 16, 2013, 11:09: I can't understand why people like MOBA games. It sucks. Same thing over and over. Interaction is extremely limited. I mean sure there's tons of different heroes, but who cares... I guess the attraction may be that it's so simple to play. Wow has proven that simple beats "good" in the general population. I don't love them or something but the itemization, hero skill, teamwork elements and ability to think on your fee make it seem deceptively simple, MOBA games actually have a very high skill ceiling and more strategy than people realize.
They are far from simple but you really need to play one for an extended period of time to wrap your around it, if you just play a few games or watch some casts they don't seem like much. I absolutely get that there's lots of strategy. I can understand the simple to learn/tough to master angle. I just don't understand why people find MOBAs fun. It's like chess, except the pieces change every game. And although the goal is simple, the gameplay can be very complex, and there are a lot of variables one must adapt too. LoL is certainly easier to start playing and having fun. Dota 2 takes more time to get in the swing of things. They're not very fun if you have no idea what you're doing, but if you invest the time to learn the game they're one of the more rewarding genres. |

Although I'm only about 20 hours into the PC version of Dark Souls, I can tell it's a great game. With the patch, it doesn't even seem like a port except for the menus, but since I use a controller, it's fine. (NOTE: You should DEFINITELY use a controller for this game, some games are just better with it. This is one of them.)
I think it's the best combat I've ever had in a PC game. Everything is...fair. If you die, it's because you messed up. It's a learning process.
Great game, and hopefully the 2nd improves on the first. |

| Dark Souls is an awesome game, and the port is fine if you use the patch. And I wouldn't call it "grinding," it's more like practicing until you know how to fight. Once you know how to play, an area that took you 5 hours to reach before can now be reached in 1 hour. It's not an easy game, but it's not inherently "grindy," although you can choose to play it that way if you want to. |

There's no targeted release date, and when there is, it will just be a marketing push with a bigger update (like another act). They plan on having a lot of updates now and after release. There's going to be another patch next week that adds another skill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5toCbb-vn4
Release really won't be any different. If you start playing now, you'll get to keep all your characters, loot, and currency. Balancing will always be on the table as they add more skills, supports, and add to the passive tree.
None of this should stop you from playing, it's a great action RPG. Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2 just couldn't hold my interest, but PoE does. |

| The first one was surprisingly good. The production values were quite impressive, and the gameplay was an interesting take on tower defense (offense), enough to make it stand out. |

I've still yet to play Bioshock 1 and 2. My girlfriend has beat both, really liked them, and is very much looking forward to Infinite. I told her maybe she should wait and check reviews first before buying it. She's like, "Nope, I don't care, I really enjoyed the first two and this one ties up the story, I'm going to play it good or bad."
So, should I play Bioshock 1 and 2? =P |

I'm curious, did Gearbox develop the entire game by themselves? I wouldn't think the makers of BL1/BL2 would put out such a bad game.
EDIT: Nevermind, missed this part "... and that Gearbox was only developing the multiplayer portion of a game primarily designed by TimeGate Studios." |

| How do they get their digital figures when the biggest digital store, Steam, doesn't release sales figures? (except to the people selling the game, obviously) |

eRe4s3r wrote on Jan 24, 2013, 06:34: What's the chance of a decent game experience by doing a public random party game from level 1 onward in this? Also what's the ping like for Europeans?
I am actually waiting a day to get all these beta guys out of my view The further they are from my first game experience the better it will be. And the higher imo, the chance to find a decent guy or gal to do a bit of relaxed coop gaming in this... My main (and basically only) gripe with this game is that loot is not individually instanced, it's a race to pick it up first (although you get a short timer where only you can pick it up if you kill the monster). This system makes it so I'm very unlikely to ever party with someone I don't know. But I tend to solo anyway, so this isn't a huge problem for me.
Awesome game, by the way. Great character-building game mechanics in the form of skills, support skills, loot, passive skill tree, and stats. |

Yes, it's F2P, and one of the most generous F2P games I've seen. They're adamantly opposed to selling power in any form. Most things are just going to be cosmetics like different weapon effects, pets, graphical effects for your character, different skill effects. They also sell more character slots, but they give you 24 slots for free. They also sell more stash tabs, but they give you quite a lot for free.
There are some other things in the works for the shop like custom ladders where you can just invite your friends/guild.
Basically, you don't feel gimped if you don't want to pay anything. You'll have access to the full game.

| I know it's a "greatest developer" title, but I think one must also consider all the "side" things Valve does, like release Source Film Maker for free (which is an awesome tool), all their games are incredibly moddable, letting fans who make the mods/items make a lot of money, they do Free To Play done right, Steam Workshop integrates mods in other games in an easy to use manner, Big Picture Mode, The International tournament, pushing Linux/Linux client, cloud services, lowers the price on their games quickly, etc. They do a lot of little things right and I think it adds up to a lot. |
