Half Life (1 or 2), on the other hand are basically already storyboarded and would make great movies once adapted into a script. While I think JJ is a great fit (he's a geek of the first order) for something like that, his plate is pretty full for the next decade. Let's run through the list:
Joss: his talent is really with large casts, and HL is a lone wolf story. Still, a top director for this material.
Zack Snyder: excels at action, but I'd want him to cut back on the slo mo.
Michael Bay: As long as he got a good script, an over the top actiony HL could be fun. Thinking more The Rock and The Island, not Transformers.
Neil Marshall: Directed The Descent, would definitely make a tension filled HL movie.
Sam Raimi: A solid choice. Good for this material having done both action and horror.
My number one though? Chris Nolan: This would be an amazing Half Life movie. Gritty, with the right balance between action and realism.
I'd vote for Neill Blomkamp. The best answer here.
Even by their nature they are the same.. Amazing with an incredible modest lowbrow attitude.
Fun fact:
Neil made the entire District 9 film including post production for around the same amount Arnold got paid just to STAR in the crap Terminator 3 Film.
Any big name just feels wrong with a company like Valve.

Love my Nexus but I also love my iPhone 5, and to get my jailbreak tweaks back is a breath of fresh air.
Android has completely caught up with iOS and it's about time for Apple to make jailbreaking legit but only for developer accounts or something ( to keep the casual user in Apple's locked land safe and free from having to worry about dumb customers fucking their shit up with a bad jailbroken app )
It drives me nuts how Apple sits on a unix base but covers all of it up with fancy shit and loses the hardcore user base.
It's like how they drove off a ton of Final Cut editors with FCX. Prosumer = more sales.
Why sell Pro level equipment when you can make more selling oversized ipod touches..

Really curious how they plan to get the most out of Frostbite given the largely underpowered GPUs that are in all but the highest end Macs. Heck, even those can't hold a candle to the higher-end off the self PC cards. You can buy off the shelf GPU upgrades for the desktop Macs. As you pointed out the real problem is going to be with the integrated graphics in the Macbooks. If the game developers are serious about porting games over to platforms in addition to windows this will be a non-issue in a few years.
This is useless when you consider a GTX 560 lags playing any non source games in OSX due to Apple never giving a shit about its OpenGL gaming. Third party card or not, OSX plays games like dogshit compared to Windows.
Even on their laptops, its just a better idea to boot into windows for gaming.
Playing Diablo III ( back when I was playing it ) on my retina MBP in windows is just miles ahead of the OSX version.
I cant even play Diablo III at 2880x1800 in OSX with good FPS.
Go into Win 7, Playing 2880x1800 much better.
Linux is probably the backbone to this press release.

I showed some developers the issue on a previous event in the hopes that they would patch it, but they never did, which irks me to no end as Cops 'n Crooks is a blast on the consoles, and I bought the PC version day one at full price specifically to play that gametype with decent framerate. Now thats a nut kick.

Nothing I've seen about GTAV makes me think it will be any different. More importantly, WatchDogs actually looks like a decent game and it is getting a proper PC release.
The fact they're not willing to show off any gameplay or technical videos is an obvious warning sign. That and the trailers they've put out look bad for 2008, let alone 2013. Rockstar doesn't have to. I'll def pick it up on sale!
You're out to lunch if GTA IV doesn't satisfy you any bit.
GTA IV on PC with Mod Support and full res is a SOLID game with some very apparent flakey extra fat bits that should have been omitted.. but with its current steam sale price, is a hell of deal.
The vitriol you have towards GTA IV is like me with Saints Row III.. Diff demographics. So I get it I just wish I could get my $40 back for SR III

And on the subject of digital-only, I never would have noticed. I haven't bought a retail game disc since 2000. PC Gamer (so take it for what it's worth) said the first few hours of the game are basically "Watch Lara Get Tortured" porn, and your interactions are limited to "hold forward" and occasionally "press the button that the QTE wants you to press."
Lara will be climbing a cliff, and will slip and scramble for a hand-hold and have to fight to regain her balance, until she finally managed to somehow pull herself up to the top of the cliff, and your interaction throughout all that was to "hold forward."
That's not a game. That's a developer jerking off all over themselves and imagining they're making a movie.
Creston Bringo.
Anytime in a game and that happens I get sorta angry, surprisingly its not so bad when its a game mechanic that is non-linear.
In Farcry 3, tapping X to knock off a tiger then hitting Y to cut it is not so bad because it can happen anytime by surprise etc.
Having a set of cutscenes that you control and they only happen ONCE is sorta drab, esp cus its completely linear.

Thanks for the response.
1.) even console FMVs arent to console standards... its all crappy quality to fit the content in a smaller package.. again nothing to do with the quality of a game imo unless its BEYOND bad.
2.) No release planned ( ill take that, but we know its probably not true given their past)
3.) 30fps? no way, maybe at day of release. I was playing on my 120fps projector and it was swell.
4.) See ubisoft, or Epic.
Creston is spot on, they made and always will make their money on consoles. |

SectorEffector wrote on Dec 31, 2012, 13:50: Or it will turn out like Max Payne 3.... which was running silky smooth and looking very, VERY good. It still had that stupid extra bit of bloat for logging in and stats, but that's easily overlooked when it runs perfect.
Did you play Max Payne 3? Same engine, and it seemed to me like it was much more optimized engine wise then GTA IV was. Firstly, Max Payne 3 for PC was developed simultaneously with the console version - that isn't the case with GTAV. Secondly, the environments were much smaller. Thirdly, the in-game videos were shockingly low quality - absolutely disgusting for a modern game, especially when they were used so extensively. And the gameplay was really weak, which was a criticism I had of GTAIV as well. Also, the media put out for MP3 actually looked decent and Rockstar was happy to show off gameplay; everything shown for GTAV is a mess of low polygon models, low resolution textures and poor quality lighting and they won't show any gameplay videos. Obviously MP3 was a better port than GTAIV but it certainly wasn't up to the standards set by games like Far Cry 3, Borderlands 2 or Arkham City.
Don't forget that it was Rockstar that ported LA Noire to PC, which was a technical disaster. I appreciate that they took over from another developer, so I don't hold them entirely responsible, but even so it was in a pretty disgusting state.
If Rockstar cared about PC gamers then they'd do a simultaneous release, like they did with MP3. They're too busy enjoying cocaine parties thrown by Microsoft to give a shit about integrity. Reread most of that and tell me how you didn't just agree with me at the end but you frosted your response with your tidbits with Max payne 3. Who gives a fuck about the in game videos, seriously. As long as they aren't 320x240 bink's then I could care less. ESP when we are arguing the engine being optimized.. not whether or not the cinematics lead wants to push that event off on to a prerendered vid or not.
Also please let me know if you have any evidence that the PC version is being worked on or not being worked on right now. ( we know there is a year delay between releases, but don't assume they have NOBODY on it right now. )
BTW La Noire and Max Payne were fine with me. Not a moment passed where I was thinking about how shitty the port was. (im sure someone will tell me how unperceptive I am for that )
Yes GTA IV was a shit port, but after Max Payne 3, I have good faith.
You should direct your hate to a couple other companies who don't just crap on the PC, they downright make PR statements assaulting the platform.
