For those of us that have actually played all of them and enjoyed them - the more the better. I don't give a crap if they just import SA into the new engine. They aren't going for anything revolutionary, they are just progressing another story, calm the F down!
I've played all of them as they came out and enjoyed them all, right from the first GTA. Vice City was the only one that I ended up completing, as I really enjoyed the setting and the freedom. I got quite far in GTAIV but my saved game corrupted because of GFWL, so I never got found to completing it. However, based upon the visuals in the trailer it really doesn't look like much of an improvement over GTAIV and graphically that game was pretty dated at the time. And it's not just me, as the userscore over on Metacritic also shows a lot of negativity towards the game.

But I found Mafia II to be a lot more compelling as a game. The openworld had only a fraction of the depth of GTAIV but the story was excellent, the pacing much better and the atmosphere - from the period music to the style of buildings - was excellent. And graphically it blew GTAIV out of the water, as well as running dramatically faster and being very well optimised for PC. That pretty good coming out of a small eastern European developer, which a fraction of the budget that GTAIV had.

I don't need to "calm down" just because I'm not impressed by the trailer, any more than the people running around saying it has life-like visuals do. I'm just wary based upon the poor quality of GTAIV on PC.

Mafia II was dead short of a game, lacked nearly the amount of depth, and the cutscene where you get made and you realize they are cutting out 10+ possible missions was a joke. Mafia > Mafia 2. <-- I'm betting Mafia I had a smaller budget as well.

I played the shit out of GTA 4, and I still go back into it from time to time, esp with the Gay Tony DLC.

This news is sure to upset some people. I know my interest in the game has dropped to nothing.

Only those not paying attention... when a game is announced for iPad, phones and PC what kind of game do you think it is? Not an FPS, obviously. Also given that it was a comic book first this kind of game makes perfect sense.

erhmmm Rage....

For me the early 90's was oddly nostalgic, I just envision riding through the streets and all the citizens are watching Pete and Pete in their homes. nothing else!

GTA:SA was epic in my opinion, I also played it first on PS2, and I remember that game had some awesome moments. I loved the jetpack and riding a bike off a cliff and parachuting into a forest below.

Not in this case though since Rage is the worst id game ever. And id hasn't made good games in a long long time.

Frankly, I don't even care about the graphics even though they're far below BF3/Witcher 2 in quality. Rage is just plain and simple a really bad game. The gameplay is terrible, the animations are very bad, and the horrible sounds make me want to rip my ears out.

ID has one of the worst sound designers of any company, they are the polar opposite of DICE...

Doom3's machine gun sound effect was uncontrollably disappointing.

Rage with its disappearing corpses and bland gameplay can go jump in the bargin bin where it belongs before my wallet gains any proximity to it.

I mean, it's not damning. We don't know who on the team came from where. Maybe Tikman hired some producers and team members with more direct experience. I mean, Valve came from spreadsheets and immediately gave us Half Life.

I can't mock it too much. You've got to start somewhere, and those games are easiest to start with even if your dream is violent action games. But when you see a studio go from a developing exclusively casual stuff (and seemingly 2D casual stuff) to 3D action you can't get excited.

On the topic of predicting how good this may be, I'd say you're on the right track. It's smart to not really expect much from a casual dev, esp when the Chucky franchise wasn't too deep or meaningful to a real audience of people anyways.

That's exactly what people are buying Macs for, you sure sussed that one out.

Before you continue masquerading as a moron...

Luckily working at a larger studio with OSX, Win, and primarily Linux I've ACTUALLY seen consistent performance differences in an environment where we need uber dependability. I've also been to other studios where they also need that same dependability because you can't tell a client we need more $ because the 500k to 1.5 mil wasn't enough for this current commercial or job because our windows box died thanks to the blue screen.

I've heard from multiple IT's who have worked at ILM, Framestore and several other larger studios adamantly defend the choices apple makes for its hardware + OSX. I do believe these ARE the people buying Mac's, contrary to your point, and they are spending boatloads on Apple hardware with Quadro's built in and are happy because they know during crunch time these machines won't fail, besides the occasional hardware faults ANY computer can have regardless of OS choice.

Anyone with the actual computer knowledge that's not an idiot who has a good slashdot sense will always defer to Linux destroys all of them because it's the best of both worlds and it's already not retard friendly unless your using a super bloated distro.

I really hope you can take note, I don't really love Apple personally I just can't sit here and listen to bullshit when I've seen the hardware perform fantastically when it was called to arms renderwise or setup wise in a high pressure studio, that I ASSURE you, would not be wasting their money on that Apple hardware if it hadn't already proved itself worthy on the previous show.

I absolutely love these "Macs are for Idiots" arguments. Sugarman, lets sit you in front of the mac terminal and show us what your superior intellect is capable of.

Using the terminal isn't exactly difficult, it's all syntax memorization and experience. Anyone who has used a generic Unix variant will be immediately comfortable. You would have to be a complete moron to imply that is the regular user experience on a Mac. Mac are for idiots if idiots are people who just want to accomplish simple tasks.

I'd love to see you set up a node system in Shake or Houdini Only idiots do that.

refrain from being an idiot.

It's all a matter of perspective I suppose. Brought down by the all knowing internet tyrants again. I do agree with some of what you guys have said as in the advancements they've brought to the market, but I was simply stating that Mac's are overpriced/overhyped, how is that wrong? I'm sure you'll tell me as I've somehow hurt you deeply by either talking about your boyfriend Steve or talking trash on your large white toasters.

even if that perspective is less clear? I'm definitely no mac fanboi. Regardless, your first post was vastly superior in troll-dom.

as a hardcore PC / Linux / OSX user I can officially declare you slightly stupid.

You must be the type that ignores the fact that Apple has been responsible for the last two gigantic technological trends that all their competitors ( android / pc ) have only followed. I'm sure it's no surprise to you every new phone that is the "iPhone Killer!" must be just plain coincidence.

It's okay we can go back to 2008 and ignore the iphone and you can keep buying overpriced shitty flip phones. I'm also gonna assure you with pancreatic cancer he is hardly laughing, if he even can with his gaunt appearance.

The point is anything based in Unix is so much better security wise then any awful Registry based OS.

go sell crazy someplace else.

Really...

It just works, and unlike my wifes HTC/droid handset, it has a clean efficent UI that doesnt look like it was designed by a 90's KDE developer (read someone who was designing a UI with no UI design skills).

That's your opinion. I find the iPhone's UI to be a giant pile of flaming shit. The buttons are never in the same place on the screen. They're never called the same thing. Trying to navigate back to the screen you were before always turns into a mini version of "Where's Waldo?"

Compare that to Sense, which simply has a back button on the phone. And a Menu button, that brings up screen context-sensitive information every time you push it.

The iPhone's a good phone, but hailing it as some form of Uber-UI is, imo, a little bit too much Steve Jobs Fluffery. As even Peter MolyNENEYUSUYSUUXUXUXUXUXU eventually found out, there's nothing wrong with having a few consistent buttons.

Creston

Keep in mind Creston, Apple made the smartphone what it is today. When I was working for Sprint back in my shit job days, I was amazed that they would release like 60 new phones a month from LG, HTC, Samsung, Motorola a month or so. It was ridiculous. Then the iPhone comes out and suddenly its all about touchscreen and "The IPHONE KILLER" I remember the first 2 years of 'Iphone inspired phones" were shit. I still find the hardware inconsistency in most Androids to be a pain.

You can't convince me that they didn't sway the market in the next direction, just look at Nintendo shitting themselves over the mobile games market.

Same for the iPad. NOBODY ELSE gave a shit about these touch screen tablet's until the iPad did some shit right (albiet with a really simple and bland OS) It still wound up the market. You can't ignore these things if you want to talk tech and have other savvies take you seriously.

lol no, just asking because I heard they can use the Engine freely because of that contest. Sometimes I talk about games and or their engines on bluesnews.
