6. Re: Rocksmith Trailer Apr 19, 2011, 23:59 Dirwulf

If knowing a few chords and notes is what qualifies as a musician then I guess most of us are musicians in that case, right? It's not like this GAME teaches actual music knowledge and theory. Can you read sheet music? Probably not. Just because a parrot learns words doesn't mean it understands language. However, that takes real intelligence, something you lack.

Oh, and don't bother replying because you're finally going on ignore with your other moroic pal, space captain.

I guess you don't listen to the radio much. Most bands these days only seem to know a few chords and apparently they qualify as musicians (that's an entirely different discussion). Of course these games don't test theory and knowledge. I don't know many musicians that actually know theory let alone what the circle of fifths is. And I really doubt the plethora of Blink 182's on this planet do either.

Not that you care, but I started playing trumpet in 2nd grade when they still had music programs in elementary schools in the US. I eventually went to New Mexico State University on a marching band grant where I studied music composition and theory. So Yes, I know how to read music. I also play several instruments.

Someone who has never played a guitar will certainly learn something from this game. What do you think learning licks is anyway...parroting. There's hardly a musician on this planet with an original lick or musical idea. You learn by copying the people you like and then develop your own style. They'll learn basic chords and fingering. Its a start. Something no other music game has done yet. How is this bad? You made no points except to be a condescending asshole.

And "learn how to play a real instrument" comments are tired and played out.

How so? What other popular music games are using real guitars? As someone who has taught guitar to many people in the past, I can see by watching the video alone that people who don't know how to play real instruments WILL learn to play using this game if they take the time. Its a lot cheaper than paying someone like me who secretly hates the fact that you have no clue how to play a guitar.

Music games are stupid. If you want to be a musician learn music and learn to play.

Actually, Cutter, as a musician, I must say this is going to be a pretty awesome tool for people who want to learn to play. I don't think you even watched the video. You read the headline and made s stupid comment. Its using real instruments. You can even use your own guitar. I'm pretty sure I'll be picking this up, as its a music game I can actually excel at. I hate all the other games specifically because its using plastic, fake instruments. I'm not sure how well this will sell, as I'm sure a lot of wanna bes will discover it takes years of dedication and practice to become a good player.

Even if you know how to play but are a lazy song learner, this game will teach you how to play those songs. It has value in that alone.

Dragon Age II still moving up in the UK. I don't think its doing so well in the US right now though. With all the Steam sales its wasn't even close to the top 10. I think I saw it in the top 20 once.

I hadn't checked D2D. Its #4. That's surprising.

Overall B&M retail sales (nothing to do with video games) are down 6% from last year. If B&M Video game sales are only down 4%...

That's why I hate forums sometimes...misinterpretation is far too easy.

Read the article a little closer? It doesn't count digital distribution, so the report is meaningliess, other than boxed products took a 4% dip. Unless they post DD numbers, for all we know sales actually went up.
Don't even have to RTFA, its in the summary blue did:
buying "apps" for mobile devices such as Apple's iPad, playing online social games or buying games they can download to consoles or computers -- all sales that are not included in Thursday's figures."

Yes, but if you read the posts below me, I would say they didn't read that sentence...

Incorrect. Blizzard operates with it's own corporate leadership and control.

No that is not correct, the CEO of the parent company, Vivendi is Jean-Bernard LÚvy

Bobby runs Activision
Mike Morhaime runs Blizzard.

Since people keep getting this wrong, Activision did not buy Blizzard. Vivendi, Blizzard's parent company, bought Activision, and changed the name to Activision-Blizzard. Activision has no control over what Blizzard does.

Is this game worth checking out? Is it like Diablo games? Screen shots and videos seem decent.

I played the last open Beta and I'm playing this one too. I'm glad they wiped the servers for this iteration. Its pretty fun, for a while lol. Its Spore meets Diablo. Multiplayer is the way to go. Playing solo is pretty boring, and the loot is better in multiplayer. They made a lot of improvements in a week. Its free, so what do you have to lose? I'd check it out (seeing as I am lol).

Way to take the quote out of context Verno. If you're going to quote something, you use the entire quote. You work for Fox News now?

This coming from the chief Bioware apologist? Amusing hypocrisy. I didn't provide the other 10 quotes either but I did provide the link for people to read themselves. Did you even read the text you provided? Let me bold it for you.

""Normally, we are pretty responsive to activity on the forums, but you may also be aware that our forums are staffed voluntarily - and while we do ensure that additional presence exists when launching patches or server updates, this weekend was not the case. "

Translation - they are not monitored by paid employees unless they are launching a new product or a patch. The support forums were not monitored by paid employees which in turn lengthened the resolution of this entire debacle. This is a AAA developer, I think they can afford employees to watch the support forums, it's not exactly difficult to spot a 20 page thread.

Most companies use volunteers on their boards. I take it you have never worked for a game company before. Its prohibitively expensive to hire (how many?) people to read forums for every single one of EA'/Bioware's games, and each one of the sub forums for each title. Especially since a lot of posts are from people who don't report bugs correctly, just want to rant and rave, etc. That's why most companies also have email addresses to send support issues into. Now I don't know if Bioware has something like that in place, but it probably would have helped them in this situation. Usually weekend staff is light to begin with, so I'm sure that didn't help either. Also, the game is an older title, which will also impact the staffing.

Now as several other people have pointed out, they should have just removed the authentication once sales decreased. I am surprised they didn't do that now, but fixed it instead.

By the way, I don't trumpet for any one company. After having worked in the game industry for 15 years, I see things from the developer side. You all make it seem like its so easy to run a game company and all that entails. So I defend the developers a lot.

From Sept. 2009:

"BlizzCon is operated at a substantial loss for the company," said Pearce. "It's a huge marketing opportunity, so that's the benefit we get out of that. But in terms of any kind of financial gain, it actually is a loss for us."

You were the one who tried to bring up it's presence in a single top ten list as meaningful. I treat it like an Impulse top ten list, it's amusing but not terribly meaningful. In the last Steam list it got beat by things like Blood Bowl which even on sale isn't exactly a sales performer.

We'll see how many it sells say after a year. I bet its more than DA:O.

I doubt we'll need to wait that long. DA:O did 2.1 in what, 3 months?

Come one Verno, its not that hard to look shit up.

3.2 million copies in this announcement: http://tinyurl.com/3jooecz

Released Nov 2009. So yes, 3 months by that announcement, all platforms, worldwide.

I think Dragon Age II has the potential to sell that much. We'll find out in two more months.
