Played this on the sega master system, which had this old-fashioned child's music box sound to it.

So many awesome memories of gaming in the 90s...voodoo rush to voodoo2, seeing glquake and then Unreal run for the first time (jaw dropping, in both cases).

The castle flyby of Unreal's main menu was the very first thing I saw running hardware accelerated, at 800x600 or maybe even 1024x768! To this day, the music sends shivers up my spine.

I didn't see any buddy/rival crap, nor any convoluted and over-articulate menu systems. Show us someone moving quickly from one race to another and show us the full in-game ui, with its lack of giant distracting achievement and secondary goal crap.

I want TOCA3 2013 Edition

"OH! Let's just go back to the old sim games..."
Why nobody has yet mentioned Sid Meier's SimGolf is beyond me!

Put your varied and interesting driving challenges in your game by all means, but some of us just want to race. Some of us just want a track, a car, and a stopwatch. Why not give some different and independent campaigns focusing on a single activity? Why *must* we do boring things in games?

I'll also say that the convoluted, absurdly intricate and terribly-slow-to-navigate menu systems in Codemasters' driving games as well as the buddy and rival crap really irritate me. I feel a(nother) TOCA 3 session is imminent.

Much respect for making a demo available, but the video shows me all I need to see ... ;-)

I think I want to see a video of this ...

At this point the view switches to that disembodied first-person perspective made so ubiquitous by shooting games like the Call of Duty franchise and Epic’s own influential Unreal titles.
This sentence makes me sad ;'(

All lists of this sort are entirely wrong, but it's nice to see some folks remembering X-Wing and Wing Commander. Freespace 2 has been the only worthy successor IMHO.

Torchlight was good daft fun and I'm hoping T2 will be the same.
As for mods/options vs stable and cheat free economy - there is a place for both. The mod community always surprises me with innovative and interesting stuff, so I personally prefer this type of game design and choose carefully those I play alongside and against ;-)

Does anyone know a release date? Sept/Oct is rumoured, but nothing official...

It certainly is amazing, and it certainly is not for everyone.
There needs to be more going on in the world - more dungeons, more ruins, perhaps villages of AI players. Wanderlust types like myself should wait a few months.
But for creativity, it is grand. Things will look blocky and weird but I think it is charming ... and of course, you can mod your game to have higher res textures, and glsl witchcraft.

At what point - or with which historical piece of technology - does emulation and backward gaming become too painful?
Excuse me while I just go outside for some firewood, which I shall acquire by gnawing down a tree with my teeth.

There is nothing like being locked up in an intergalactic battleship for weeks on end with no working toilet. Hooray for bog fixes!

Sorry to drag this back on topic, however some poeple (me) have found everything given a red tiny after installing 10.10. "restore factory defaults" is hidden away in the menubar of the CCC window. This will fix it ;-)

The bendy-breaky-wibbly stuff was great, as was the animation and physics stuff. It's a shame it was not a Jedi Knight game though; the actual gameplay was really awful.

As far as I'm concerned, they can keep their crappy console game. Force Unleashed was ported badly anyway.

Why are they still called 'reference' drivers - are there any 3rd party gfx drivers anymore? ;-)

Oh, yes! Please o ye gods of gaming, smile upon this game and let it not be yet another half arsed dumbed-down example of cross-platform gaming!
The first was great. Simple as that.
