I know the following is just my little bubble..."Jivaro Island" if you will...but here are my observations on this fiasco:

I know nobody who has been able to play the game to their own satisfaction and actually have fun. I know of a few people that have been able to get enough time in to see some potential, but that just pisses them off more when things come to a grinding halt via crash or disconnection.

All I can say is thank you to Blizzard and Diablo 3 for teaching me the lesson that kept me from buying this game and any future games that require always-on connections for single player gameplay.

Side note and unrelated "technically": Is an always-on connection required for the most recent Anno and HoMM games or is it just a "check" when you launch the game?

For Anno, it checks and limits to three installs. The latest patch removed the limitation of counting an activation if you swapped out a graphics card for a different one:

Too late, the damage is already done. If you have always on DRM you either have a good launch or you get remembered forever as an example of why this doesn't work.

The thing people remember most about D3 is error=37 and the queues.

Yet, people will still buy it like they did with D3. I don't see them reverting back their business model, unfortunately and we'll still see the online required component for years to come.

The funny thing is that despite the problems with this game, people will buy it and the SP MP online crap will move forward to other games.

I donated and then retracted. I found War of the Overworld more enticing so decided on that one instead.

Sounds interesting. Not $20 interesting for an unknown game but if it reviews well at release I'll grab it on sale.

Well, it is a Kickstarter game and most of those are unknown anyways...

This game looked like pure crap in every video I saw of it pre-release, this doesn't surprise me at all. The first 2 were fun, but the last 2 were garbage.

Which two are you talking about? Alien and Aliens on the Commodore 64?

I'd like to point out that the Eurogamer preview had the Devs mentioned this is nothing like DK. They said they pay homage to it, but the execution is totally different.

I for one like it. It reminds me of a cross between Evil Genius and the squad making abilities of Company of Heroes.

So the second article under "outcry" mentioned the Devs blasting the hard core people. How is this any different than false advertising? Here are the descriptions of the game, nothing saying it was in beta, talking about a large world where it's currently just a small map. Face it War Z Devs: you screwed up.

GW2? No thanks; game was shallow for me. My personal favs were XCom, BL2, FC3, and Torchlight 2. TL2 and XCom also get high marks for modding.

As nice as Linux is for compatibility, I am disappointed in the lack of drivers for my Hybrid Intel/Nvidia 650M chipset in it. I would hope it would run off of the Intel card, but it always runs off of the NVidia one.

Optimus support on Linux is pretty raw but IIRC someone did hack together a project for it, kinda went nuts then other people forked it. I sold my old Optimus laptop so I stopped following it. It did work, not sure about your specific chipset though.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

I have a nephew that just got the message, had it sink in, the kid was reformatting like a couple times per month, any issue he had he did that nearly first thing and usually it didn't fix it anyway.

It's funny you mention that because I was in college when Windows 95 came out and whenever my CD Rom icon disappeared, I'd reformat my computer. It wasn't until months after that a friend of mine showed me how to fix that problem. Ever since then I was a techie at heart and even work as a Systems Admin today.

My home ESX host has seen the same hardware for years now but I just upgraded to version 5 which is running just as nice as 4 did. I'm even trying to learn Linux more and one of our admins has been helping me with my dual boot Win 8/Kubuntu laptop to show me how to use Linux. As nice as Linux is for compatibility, I am disappointed in the lack of drivers for my Hybrid Intel/Nvidia 650M chipset in it. I would hope it would run off of the Intel card, but it always runs off of the NVidia one.

Funny...I must be the guy that never has issues. Never had problems with Windows Me and gaming, never had problems with Windows Vista and gaming, and have not had any problems with Windows 8 and gaming (been using it since I got it off of Technet). I will say that I had my first frozen system issue last night Citrixed into my work PC and running Live TV in Media Center, but other than that, no issues with it. I love the revamped task manager, faster boot up times, and all-in-one file copy dialog. As far as the start screen, I actually learned to use my keyboard to search for things compared to Windows 7 and search. I'd say it's much fast to get your results in 8 compared to 7 from searching within the Start Screen.
