The problem with D:OS is that Normal is too easy (past the first couple levels) and Hard is too annoying. Not too hard, just annoying. "Oh your glass cannon brushed past some fire? She's now ash. Please reload."

I don't see this being worth more than $5.

You have to admit, Blizzard is full of smart people.

While the rest of the world scrambles to get their message out, Blizzard gets suckers to pay $40 to watch two straight days of advertising!

That's the problem I have with this game. The endless spawning on Police. After you have completed a mission, you feel like you just wiped out the full police force for the city.
During the Hollywood Shootout, which Payday 2 is sort of based on, 200 LAPD responded to the criminals shooting their way out of a bank robbery gone bad.

But yeah, it can get pretty overwhelming, especially on tougher difficulty, so you need to figure out ways of cutting down their numbers without risk, usually by covering a chokepoint that they have to rush through, or by taking the high ground.

It's an amazingly fun time when you pull off a tough mission successfully.

>at this point we're all level four,

Blue, that's your problem. Payday 2 has a really weird design, where even though quiet and loud both look like viable options, they are not. All the stuff you need to stealth a mission has to be unlocked, and some of the things are very deep unlocks (like being able to lockpick a safe, or quiet drilling or using ECMs to disable pagers), requiring you to invest a lot of time in the game playing a first person shooter before you can turn it into a stealth game.

By contrast, most games with these two options (say, Dishonored or Deus Ex) allow both options to work from the start.

Some of the stealth missions are ridiculously difficult. Like stupidly, ridiculously difficult. Others (like the normal bank missions) are actually fairly reasonable to do, once you learn the basics.

Essentially, you need to kill the guards with silencers, bag up their bodies (which requires an easy unlock), kill the tellers (since they will alert the police), and then have everyone rush in and order all the customers to the ground. Zip tie everyone (another easy unlock), and if you can get to everyone before a customer can sneak a phone call to the police. Any loud gunshots will alert the police, so you need to unlock silencers on at least one person, and hopefully everyone. Fast drilling (a medium unlock) and fast bag packing and movement will help you break through the safe door and load up your stuff quickly. A drillsaw (a deep unlock) will help you get the security boxes open quickly.

You can unlock everything for the same price as the MTG 2014 complete set, so all the hysteria is very unfounded.

Was gonna ask if this was worth it.

Guess not.
I played the beta.

I wouldn't say it was bad, but it certainly wasn't worth buying.

I would so love to play Dwarf Fortress with a usable UI... the ASCII interface is just too big a hurdle for me, and I've played a lot of Nethack in my day.

LOL. If this was true, they'd have all quit by now. The Blizzard community is a cesspit.

It was textbook what-not-to-do with both F2P and MMO models.

I played the beta for it and stayed way way away from it at release.

They also forgot to mention Free 2 Play transitioning. You know it's coming.

That'll be the next update when everyone cancels their accounts after the free month and first paid month ends.

It's personally what I'm waiting for... I played in the various betas, and it just wasn't worth the money they're asking for.

I used to hate Civ V as a dumbed down, slow, buggy throwback from the success of Civ IV.

Then the expansions came out, and added enough content that it wasn't completely terrible. But the balance is horrible, the gameplay is awkward, and turns take forever to execute.

So it went from a D+ to like a B- in my book.

I still greatly prefer Civ IV, especially with Fall From Heaven.

I liked the ship design aspect of StarDrive 2, but it lacked a lot of depth of 4X games, especially the planetary development component.

Keeping fleets together was a total bitch as well.

Making people pay $20 extra to unlock a race, on top of buying a $60 box, on top of a $15 monthly fee is like combining the worst aspects of F2P, traditional software, and MMORPGs all in one unappealing package.

If the game was super awesome, I'd probably buy it anyway, but it's actually very bland.
