I saw that article like four days ago. There's no way Samsung is buying AMD. AMD won't sell on the crux of their possibly biggest launch since ATi's 4870. The 300 series is likely to net them some handsome profits. Why would they just hand that opportunity over to Samsung? It's not happening.

I just downloaded the torrent of the video. Youtube won't let me set the resolution to 4k since I only have a 2k monitor, which is strange, because I swear I've been able to do it before on other videos.

Anyway, the downloaded video runs supa-smooth. Technically, the video is playing 4k content, but only at 2k resolution, so you'd think it would take even more processing power for the downscaling.

This just makes me want this shitty game even less. Saw a bunch of z-fighting, the voice acting was terribad, the 3rd person looks annoying as fuck to play as, and the game just looks boring and not very good graphics. $50 million for what?

yeh i was switched to 4k 60fps.. it does stutter a bit in the interior ship shots... which doesnt make much sense considering it should just be straight video... but i guess the encoder is doing some kind of variable bit rate thing there

anyhow in the space shots it seems ok, so thats kinda weird

The video uses JPEG compression, essentially. The more complex a frame is, the larger it is. If there are more solid areas that can be compressed, it will save space. If there is a lot of texture and pixel variation, there is less opportunity for compression because more pixels need to be individually specified.

I'm waiting to see what materializes.

the idea of Trek has always been grand, but i've always found the implementation to be rather bland and uninspiring, with the exception of a few eps here and there. to me there's no surprise that it never lasts - until they get writers and producers that really embrace the inspirational human side of the show, it'll just remain schlocky scifi that most people ignore. that's why i always hated it when enterprise and crew went down the warpath with alien race A, B, or C. it abandoned what made it potentially great in favor of cheap drama.

That's exactly why Babylon 5 is the far superior show.

preachin' to the choir bro. i've been trying to spread the gospel of B5 for years but it's sortof a difficult show to get into what with season 1 being entirely foreshadowing and buildup.

Yeah, the first season was a slowbie, but once the show starts to figure itself out, it's one of the best sci-fi things out there.

The sad story of Mollari; the Bester-Giribaldi drama; the Londo-G'Kar opera. Holy shit, this show has so much awesomeness packed into its story arcs, it's a shame it's such a niche show.

Leaked Contract: Amazon Makes Warehouse Workers Sign 18-Month Non-Compete Agreements.

That's fucking evil. These aren't employees with sensitive knowledge of Amazon's inner workings. They're just grunts. I'm sure something like this would never stand up in court, but of course someone making $12 an hour would never take them to court. It's just intimidation, pure and simple.

I remember when $12/hr was an immense amount of money.

Sounds boring as fuck. You're better off watching from home. Better view, and you're not sitting there in a hot building full of thousands of nerds with bad hygiene, doing basically nothing.

And then you have to be miserable in traffic for 2-3 hours just trying to get the fuck out of Seattle after the event. No thanks.

Solution: Just don't buy EA products. Simple.

None of them are that great anyway. Totally easy to live without them.

4K on PC LCDs is overrated anyway. It will rock on TVs above 40" in a few years once native 4K content becomes more commonly available but what do you need 4K for on a 24" to 32" LCD on your desk or maybe even a laptop screen?
It might become more interesting on the PC side if and when VR ever takes off since 4K is effectively 2K but I don't really see much of a use in regular desktop usage.
The image might maybe become ever so slightly sharper at 4K instead of 1080p/1440p on 24" to 32" but you have to try really hard to imagine it.

And then you also have to deal with shitty scaling all of the time as long as game devs can't be bothered to optimize their UIs for anything higher than the console typical 1080p.
Windows isn't much better either. Everything is tiny on a 24" to 32" at 4K. Let's hope that Windows 10 really ups the ante when it comes to proper scaling across a wide range of resolutions.
I'm a very happy camper for now with a 32" screen at 1440p. It will take VR and much faster (and cheaper) GPUs than this TitanX to make me consider moving on to 4K.

Ahem....

Fuck ONE 40" 4k monitor. Three is where it's at. And you don't even need a Titan.

Because of Red Faction: Guerrilla free weekend. I played it for about 4/four h(ou)rs.

I don't care what anybody says. That game is fun as fuck. Yeah it gets kind of repetitive later on, but who cares when you have such an enjoyable physics toy at your disposal? I originally...acquired it years ago when it was first released (why no demos? >:\) and ended up buying it because it was awesome. I still go back to it from time to time. The remote bombs you get later are a blast! (Punny!)
