Ew. Console screenshots. 640x480 with no AA and shitty blurred textures. Come on, devs! Stop living in the stone age! Start putting games out on PC first again!

--edit--
Actually, I guess the blame should go to publishers. Either way, can we start abandoning consoles already?

Yeah. To be honest I stopped believing, or even listening, to anything that PCGA may say. For an organization saying they defend PC gaming they do two things quite well: Jack and shit.
And Jack left town...

Alien Swarm came out in 2004 (as a UT2k4 mod)...

I dunno about all that, but I was referring to the recent free Valve game released a couple weeks ago.

The newish Alien Breed game is the sequel to the (1992?) Alien Breed game from Team17, but it's obvious Valve basically stole that idea and made their own version on their own engine.

If Alien Swarm had the ability to rotate the camera like Alien Breed does, and it had some of the neat visual/camera effects, Alien Swarm would easily beat Alien Breed on all fronts. Valve's engine is MUCH better than the UE3 engine Team17 uses, and the environments are far less annoying.

For example, there were many times where I'd be trying to walk somewhere, but the bounding box on my character and on the environment would cause me to get stuck on a corner that wasn't actually there. This happened many times. Alien Swarm doesn't have that annoying "feature." You can press right up against walls, and the level geometry that you see is the actual geometry you can traverse. Alien Breed feels oddly disconnected in that way.

Movement is different too, as when you strafe, it causes your aim to change, which is something unexpected, as you would expect to continue aiming at the place where you put your cursor, as in Alien Swarm.

Alien Swarm also has more weapons, upgrades, and specials. Plus it's insanely fun (at least until you tire of the same levels over and over) in multiplayer.

There are other minor complaints brought about from using that shitty Unreal engine, but from playing the demo of Alien Breed, I know I won't be buying it.

I tried this game (on PC). Didn't like it. Actually, I think I tried it twice, but I forgot about trying it the first time.. then the next time, I was like, "wait, this feels familiar..."

Gave it a decent shot--I wanted to like it--but it's just not my cuppatea. I think what it's missing is called "fun."

Fun means different things to different people you know.

I know. And that's what I mean. It just wasn't fun to me.

Wow! I didn't realize how much of a clone Alien Swarm is. Judging by videos on youtube though, Alien Breed is a lot cooler.. At least it looks that way.

Holy shit... Assembly is still going on. Wow. I remember it from way back in 1990. I bet it's nowhere near as cool and exciting as it was back then though, when games and such weren't as advanced, and the routines coders and artists would produce were the coolest, most innovative things anyone had seen. A lot of great game development houses came out of the demoscene.

6) Car upgrades/modifications (not Most Wanted style)

Memories of Porsche Unleashed come streaming in... What a great game.
I was actually going to say "(Porsche Unleashed style)" instead of "(not Most Wanted style)" but I couldn't remember 100% if it had modification or not, but as I recall, it was somewhat extensive.

More than half of the games in the series have had car chases. It's not exactly a fresh or exciting idea anymore. I'd much rather they return to NFS's true roots:

1) Point-to-point tracks in exotic locales.
2) Exotic cars.
3) Variable traffic, weather and time of day.

4) Awesome damage model
5) Awesome physics model
6) Car upgrades/modifications (not Most Wanted style)
