How about valve just bother to test stuff a teeny tiny bit before releasing it?

I constantly see examples where valve obviously didn't bother to test any at all. Like that one L4D2 mutation with infinite machine gun ammo, when playing a campaign in dark carnival the finale would freeze the server on loading. Obviously they never even bothered to spend 30 mins a campaign running through on easy to make sure the official campaigns were all playable.

I see tons more examples. What about when valve ported no mercy to l4d2. They didn't bother to port elevator fixes. Valve didn't bother to port elevator talk either (the sound files are already ready to go from l4d1). How about the door by the lift event? That exploit was fixed like 3 times in l4d1 and had to be fixed another 3 times in l4d2 since valve didn't bother to port any of the fixes. Seriously, I found out all this on my very first playthrough of the port. Valve rarely bothers to test stuff much, instead letting players do it.

Yawn. This thread is not about l4d. Anyway, Valve didn't develop L4D1.

And if you knew anything about anything, Valve EXTENSIVELY tests their games. Read their blogs and news updates sometime. It's not some dude sitting by himself in a basement making changes and immediately releasing them. Well known players have even been invited to private Valve games to help them "publicly" test.

Where I work, we do lots of testing prior to releases, but there is no way you can account for every single contingency. There are so many different hardware and software configurations, and everyone's computer is different. You could even have pre-existing problems that cause issues with a certain game (at which point, it's not Valve's responsibility). Testing, no matter how much, does not eliminate the possibility/probability of bugs cropping up. It's impossible.

I'd like to see you produce a game that has more than one feature and is bug-free. You can even QA that shit for 4 years before you push it out the door. I'd bet someone has a problem with it because you didn't account for their particular driver version or certain piece of hardware.

So, in short, shut the fuck up!

Yeah. The Longest Journey is a fucking classic. The graphics aren't THAT terrible, and it's got one of the best stories ever for a game. Seriously.

Hmm, nothing big for Windows XP and new icons (AMD instead of ATI).
Yeah some places it says amd catalyst or amd graphics and other places during the install says ati catalyst.

They should have just kept the ATI name. Even though its all under the same umbrella most people simply know "ATI". This silly half and half branding their doing just looks retarded.

That being said, I want the 6 series. Now.

6 series is currently just midrange cards. A whole lotta meh if you ask me. Give us the equivalent of a 4870x2 or 5870x2 in a 6 series, and you've got a winner.

By the time it does come out it will be dead. Even the die hard PC people will have bought or played it on 360 by then because they are stick of waiting.

Uhm... some of us don't own or play consoles at all. Zero, nada, zip, zilch... So being "sick of waiting" doesn't really factor in.

That said... total lack of interest in "another shitty console port" masquerading as a PC RPG is probably more accurate for us more die-hard PC gamers... so the sales will probably be low... and blamed on pirates (As usual).

The pirates are even staying away from this steaming turd. XD

I just completed NFS: High Stakes, and I suggest anyone who is interested in this new hot pursuit to do like I did instead as you will undoubtedly have a much more fun experience, especially if you never played it in the past. Just search for the NFS HS Stock Pack to install it on XP or later. Still works just fine with today's directinput wheel and gamepads.

High Stakes was fucking AWESOME. That and Porsche Unleashed were two of the best of the series.

Well, I loved the first DiRT and hated the teenage theme of DiRT 2. I hope they can transplant the excellent gameplay of DiRT2 to DiRT3 (and perfect it more), without that teen style.

It's hard for me to name any real faults in Dirt2. I loved that game and still play it from time to time, trying to place first in every event. Great range of race types, excellent graphics, pretty good music, and lots of great fun. Not too arcadey, and not too simmy, but the computer did tend to cheat a bit at the higher difficulty levels. :\

One thing I worry about with this one is, one of the guys said something about "accessibility." Great. It's being tuned for consolers, so now it's going to be much less sim and much more made for babies. I hope I'm reading too much into it.

The still frame of this first screenshot, is such a beautiful image, of nature married with adrenaline sport. I cannot wait to play Dirt3, or ANY racer game, featuring real-imagery types of background. Ahh the good old days of Motocross ripping through the can-am trails in the Autumn time.
Sadly, I think that shot is from one of the live-action sections of this video, and actually "real-imagery type of background."

They definitely won't pass up the PC opportunity for LA Noire -or- RDR. Everybody thought GTA4 would never come out for PC also, but it did eventually.

They just want to maximize their profits--which is fine--so they stagger the releases. What's not acceptable is even after taking that much time, they still manage to fuck it up.

You know, it's not like Realtime Worlds didn't have a good track record. Granted, they had ONE successful game and then tried to make a MMO.....

But it's not the buyer's fault the company folded. If anything, it's the fault of the people that didn't buy it, and the developers.

That being said, I've found that EA generally has pretty good customer service when pressed. I purchased a copy of Spore Galatic Edition from Ebay, listed as NEW IN BOX, UNOPENED..and guess what? Yeah, it was opened and the key had already been activated.

I called EA, was able to prove that it was purchased secondhand sold as a new product, and the email address of the seller matched the registered email. They generated a brand new key for me on the spot, and made it available for me to digitally download via their store, permanently. Pretty frakin' awesome of them.

Oh, and I did file a PayPal claim against the seller and get all of my money back too. So F that guy...

So basically you got a free game. And you complain about people who didn't buy a game.. Yet you GOT the game AND got reimbursed for it.

GOOD JOB ON KILLING APB, JERKFACE!!! >:\

I think the space taken up by the GPU would be better spent on more CPU cores. But whatever. Businesses will probably buy them to help accelerate their CAD applications, or whatever.
