League of Legends Season 3 Worlds had 32 million viewers. DotA2 will be lucky to have a quarter that many. I guess it's all in who you know.

Actually it has more to do with the size of the International prize pool. But let's not let that stop us from trying to incite a LoL vs Dota2 fanboy war.

When designers start saying things like "without sacrificing any of the fun" you know it's going to be a shallow experience.

Had potential but the execution was mediocre. Another game where the player is a god and the enemies are a bunch of dopes. It reached the climax during... the climax, actually, where the head badguy _knows you're coming_ and decides to deal with it by relaxing in his base with several entrances wide open, and about 10 dope guards meandering the dark hallways.

With all the game companies bending over backwards trying to copy Hollywood, you'd think they'd learn one of the fundamentals first: a story is only as good as the villain.

Wut. According to that schedule there's like 95% of BS content and 5% of actual gameplay. Oh well.

Without any media and a lot more information I'm not going to get excited yet. This is awesome news, but how many times have we been let down before. Let's just see what the reality is first, mmmkay.
The guy got some of the greatest games of all times to his pedigree. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt.

You do realize this guy was an exec at Zynga right? And you do realize that at his time at Zynga he had a lot to say in support for the world of mobile gaming?

Sounds like someone I wouldn't trust with the revival of a respected franchise from before the days of corporate plundering.

"...not blinded and limited by a standard good/evil system."

As if people don't already have a blurred sense of responsibility for thier actions, someone is now making a game with the express point of teaching that there should be no consequences for acts of violence.

Why don't we just start making games where the object is to rape women, or abduct and molest children? No consequences, right? No good or evil, right? No difference whatsoever... right?

Right.

And people think climate change is a problem?

I'd rather they ported the first one to PC. These last two have been dumbed down and polished into oblivion.

This game and Wolfenstein are on my 'buy when there's nothing else to play' list. Besides, I'm still far to invested in Dark Souls 2 atm, not to mention Transistor; both of which are freaking awesome.

You know, for months I've been hearing people hype DS2 and when it came out there was nothing else to get. So I got it. Honestly, you have to tell me, what am I missing? I've tried to play this game a dozen times. I just. Don't. Get. It. What's all the fuss about? Yes, it was super hard, I died a million times. Half of which just left me frustrated cause I KNEW I jumped before the edge of that cliff and dodge that arrow. But then I start at a checkpoint, run forward, find my blood stain and continue. Being super hard isn't a selling point in itself. I must be missing something cause I just don't see what makes this any better than all the other 3rd person action adventures on the market. I was more hooked on teenager angsty DMC than I was on DS2.

"Super hard" is how the game is (stupidly) sold to the mass market. If you're semi-competent at video games and have more patience than a child then the Dark Souls games are fairly straightforward, even downright easy in many parts to someone who is prepared.

There's a lot of other things going on that should draw you into the game. If they didn't then it's just not your bag.

It's bad enough that every imagination-deficient American is naming their poor kid Aiden these days -- now imagination-deficient game developers are naming their characters Aiden too?

Do I really need to spell out "time enjoyably spent" for you? Especially considering I already did in the text you quoted. Come on. I am quite ok with them upping the drop rate as many builds are item-centric now and I would rather actually enjoy using the build as opposed to waiting forever for items to drop so I can play the specific build I'm interested in.

I don't think Diablo is a mediocre game anymore since adventure mode, its just bordering on "good" and is pretty fun in a group setting. I certainly enjoy it more than other ARPG games on the market but of course that won't last forever and as I said I don't really want it to.

They're finally adding back ladders, more items and a bunch of other stuff in content patches so I'm sure the game won't get boring because of the drop rate. And if it does, oh well, they can adjust it. It wouldn't be the first time.

Sigh. So I guess the ideal for you would be to log in, instantly get a level 60 paragon 200 character with all BiS items so you can try out all the builds?

The entire purpose of these sorts of games is to farm for items while making do with incomplete and imperfect builds. That's literally the crux of the genre.

Drop rates were already insane on legendaries before this buff which changed the nature of the game from what I just described to "let me grind until I have 'complete' a build and then, uh, do something else." Raising drop rates even further makes this even worse.

There's the journey, there's the destination and Blizzard has catered to those who want only the destination, as fast as possible, to disastrous results (disastrous relative to the potential D3 had considering the legend of D1/2). This is supposed to be a Diablo game, not World of Warcraft.

but it's hard to look past the fact that MOBAs are a hit with college/university students, and the most popular game genre right now. just i fear for the new generation.

This is what I used to think.

Until I actually spent more than an hour playing one.

But, please, continue being ignorant. May I ask your preferred gaming genre, Mr. Good Taste?

personal preference isnt a matter of ignorance or intelligence

are you able to understand that? do you have the mental capacity?

Why don't you read what he wrote, then read what I wrote, actually process the meaning of the words, then come back and apologize.

Cliff notes since you apparently have reading comprehension issues: he's the one deeming personal preference a matter of intelligence, not me.

Legendary drop rates were already ridiculously high before this buff. Just playing a few hours here and there before I got bored with the game again netted me almost an entire stash page full of legs.

That doesn't really do you any good, though. That stash page full of legendaries will get you the materials to re-enchant the stuff you're actually wearing, but you could drop a few more pages full of them before replacing any of your gear once you're actually wearing all set/legendaries. I haven't replaced a piece of gear on my crusader in weeks, but still don't have best in slot items or a single class set piece.

And? You've proven my point. In their mission to make the game's itemization more fun (which is a good mission to have), they've decided to approach it by devaluing Legendary items to the point that they're now glorified mats, just like whites/blues were supposed to be. Fixing the itemization was going to take a lot more than a few item brainstorming sessions, some graphic work, and cranking up a drop rate.

I don't want to play Diablo 3 forever, there are other games out there. I'd rather enjoy my time in it than have it be drawn out even further in a genre that is already known for grinding.

Time spent != how good the game is. I'd rather play 5 hours of a great game than 100 hours of a mediore game. D3 is a mediocre game and spamming Legendary drops doesn't change that.
