"Due to high-demand."

Nice grammar.

Game seemed interesting until I found out the parents believe their child has survived this long through the power of Christian prayer. Apparently all the kids that weren't so lucky simply didn't have enough prayer power going for them and The Jesus was like, "Meh."

Not really commentary. He's just making fun of the poorly-written headline.

Always funny, though, when Blue notices this stuff.

"Mastermind" implies that Todd Howard has a functional brain. The only thing that dude has proven is that he can bring RPGs further and further down to his level.

Except the article is misleading. You all do realize it's OK to film your opponents in the NFL... just not from the sideline. Every team has a film room with a zillion hours of footage, guaranteed, and it's perfectly legal.

Maybe "looming disaster" means something a lot different to you?

Not really. This is Chris Roberts we're talking about. Just because a project gets more money doesn't mean it's going to actually finish.

I'm always surprised by the lack of critical thought at Blue's in response to these Derek Smart articles. Sure the guy sounds semi-crazy sometimes and he's clearly an attention whore but does anyone here honestly believe Star Citizen isn't a looming disaster? They asked for only $500k originally (dishonest crowdfunding campaign), they're way behind schedule (bad project management from a guy with a history of bad project management), and they're carrying the cost of a massive development team spanning continents.

Diablo 3 was corporate banality. Just because D2 was a flawed game doesn't make that any less true. Wrong decision after wrong decision, ad nauseum. Their frantic attempt to mop up the mess, while admirable, didn't even come close. Maybe it was because they were trying to monetize console gamers at the same time.

When Chris left Obsidian, here and elsewhere there was a bit of a cry as to "Don't Go!". Finishing up Pillars, his name is way way down the credits and isn't even credited as lead writer in the game. How some were stating his leaving as some type of huge writing loss, I found this odd.

Uh, Chris Avellone co-founded/co-owns Obsidian. It's not like he submitted his two-week notice and then bounced. His partners were most likely aware of his departure months, if not a year+ in advance. You don't officially assign a departing senior manager to a lead role on an unreleased project.

Why is no one pointing out that this online component is thinly-veiled DRM? How long until we hear that the online stuff is "part of the experience" and "cannot be disabled."

I'm very excited to see what innovative methods Bethesda has developed to dumb down the genre even further!

Not to be confused with the classic, recommended Legends of Kyrandia: Hand of Fate.

I'm sorry, but I've watched the trailer and the game makes me sick.

I know that if I don't like it I don't need to play it but putting stuff like that out there is like poisoning minds.

Classic correlation without causation argument. I suppose you want to blame Doom 2 for Columbine also? In reality, it works the other way around. Poisoned minds tend to gravitate toward media that appeals to them. Media doesn't turn healthy people into murderers.

From what little Ive seen of the game, the difficulty is mainly in figuring out how to get past certain set pieces. I have strong and mostly negative feelings about games that force you to trial and error your way through everything. A 'difficulty' level isnt going to fix design faults.

Par for the course for this new breed of "narrative" games. I sort of applaud them for making this type of game with some sort of actual gameplay, as bad as it may be. Compare this to some of the other ones where you literally just walk through the game and watch cutscenes/listen to dialog...

"Southshore vs. Tarren Mill—The Battle Continues
To recapture the feeling of the endless tug-of-war of early WoW PvP, we’re opening a special Team Deathmatch–style Battleground based on the timeless struggle between Southshore and Tarren Mill. We’ll have two different brackets for players to take part in: one for level 90–99 characters and another for level 100. Unlike the old days of Tarren Mill vs. Southshore, this Battleground has a clearly defined victor, so you’ll need to work as a team or face crushing defeat. A win will gain you a shiny new title: either Tarren Mill Terror for the Alliance or Southshore Slayer for the Horde."

This is a perfect microcosm for WoW design philosophy. After having removed everything interesting about the original game, let's bring it back but put theme-park structure around it so everyone can opt out of having their feelings hurt.

I heard this game was pretty good, just criminally short. Are they going to bring the same design ideas to the Phantom Pain?

Why would I want to spend 100 hours on quests like "Gather 10 Rat Tails" in a single player game?

I know how you feel, nin. I played FFXI for eight years, LOTRO for a couple on and off, GW2 for a year straight, and FFXIV for 6 months. No more MMOs for me, ever.

On the upside, I now have time to play Skyrim, and a heavily graphics-updated version of Oblivion. The mods for the latter are so good, the graphics are almost (but not quite) Skyrim-quality. Higher-poly models (especially heads and faces), and really enhanced textures and environmental effects. Really quite lovely and I'm enjoying both games a ton.

You have an incredibly high tolerance for pain.
