News Comments > Portal 2: 5 Down, 8 to Go
63. Re: Portal 2: 5 Down, 8 to Go Apr 18, 2011, 05:57 vacs

Not sure what the problem here is? I will wait till the next steam holdiday sales and buy Portal for 20$ with all the bugs fixed.

That's so much more convenient than buying 13 games in the hope that Portal 2 gets released a day earlier while I still have 10+ AAA games on my Steam account waiting to be finished...

Nice article, had a lot of fun reading it.

It *could* have been even more extreme but then again, more people might have understood that the article is just not meant to be taken serious... and where would be the fun in that

News Comments > Steam Guard Beta
13. Re: Steam Guard Beta Mar 6, 2011, 13:59 vacs

I tried Steam Guard just now and have to say it's an amazing security feature, even more because it's a very simple design and easy to activate/use.

I like the idea of binding one's Steam account to specific PCs. Once installed, you don't even know that's active but if someone graps your password, they can't do anything with it.

It's not that I am paranoiac, it's just to easy to use that no one should try it out and protect one's Steam games investment.

It's original name was Similarity, since they pretty much ripped off Half Life.

... and Silent Hill, and Timeshift and probably many other games. But you know what? So did F.E.A.R.! And even by knowing this, both F.E.A.R. and Singularity remain extremely fun and polished games. They don't try a lot of new things, but what they try to achieve, they do surprisingly well...

But they only work with licensed IPs now. Gone are the days when they created their own stuff ala Heretic or Hexen.

Did no one of you play Singularity. One of the best single player experiences I had lately. The game was a blast to play, good story, great effects but above all, pure fun.

So now, we finally know what OnLive is all about: It's not about making money with an amazing online service but to sack any existing or upcoming similiar service provider and to enjoy a nice life from all this royalities...

Good job Perlman!

Give me a solid reason APART from supporting the developers (which I mentioned above already) why I should buy a digital version while I would experience/get the exact same thing through pirating it.

Didn't know you get free support in case of problems if you pirate a game, I always though this was limited to those who actually buy games...

Only a few years ago, I used to pirate a lot of games but I completely stopped when Steam was born. Pirating is useless now because you get all the games you want for amazing prices, don't have to worry about backing them up or checking if they are up to date; they just work using most of the time no copy-protection at all and the best of all, you support the developers!

I rarely pay more than 20-25 bucks for a game nowadays, even for big AAA products, you just have to wait 2-3 months.

The service Steam offers is just amazing, pirating is left to guys which either are to poor to buy the games or just like to be parasites of the modern society.

Wish I could say the same about movies...

Go Android go!

In a few months Android smartphones will overtake Blackberries and it's only a question of time until Symbian goes down the drain.

Just wondering where Windows 7 Phones will fit in...

A day later, I'm still no able to update my servers (expecially install the new TF2 update) because of course, Steam servers are too busy.

Nice try Valve testing your capacity. Next time please allow again preloads, thx

Given how common preloads are, it seems more likely to me that Valve is using this release as a way to test their infrastructure.

Possibly, but they failed dramatically. My download is stuck at 2% and my Source dedicated server cannot be restarted because the Steam servers are too busy.

oh well, I'm going to try restarting them tomorrow morning.

That made me an instant Tim Schafer fan.

If you really care of video games and accept it as an art form like movies or paintings, then it's impossible NOT to be a fan of Tim Schafer.

I thought Apple was a member of the blu-ray consortium. Has that changed?

no, they still are but Steve found out that he can make more money by selling movies over itunes than by paying licence fees for every blu-ray drive and every software player he bundles with Macs.
