My question is...how can SOE afford to have all of these projects running without hurting their current games? I mean SOE is fairly big in the market, but has no large game that you can point at and say "Wow that is really raking in the dough."

Plus it's SOE we're talking about here, they don't deliver even 75% of what they lead you to believe will be there.

Because, and I believe I've stated this like 15 times on the Bluesnews comments before.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE 12 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL MMO.

Not UO, Not EQ, Not DAOC, Not Asheron's Call, None of them. Ever had more than 1 million subscribers. They were not concidered "failures" they were concidered Successful and Pioneers in the MMO industry.

World of Warcraft is simply a bizarre oddity in the MMO space.

EQ and EQ2 did just fine for subscriber numbers. Planetside did great when it was first out as well.

On top of that an FPSMMO is a completely different target audience than a Fantasy or Sci Fi MMO.

I'd gladly play a Planetside MMO over any other MMOG

Games cost more to make than they used to. If selling small amounts could still make games that sold well gaming wouldn't be where it is today...

Is it a stereo? Blu-ray player? Is there a mouse and keyboard (I mean a real keyboard) to make it easy to use Facebook/Twitter/browse the web, etc. No? Oh wait we have all that stuff via PC, but the Xbox doesn't? Oh sure you can stream stuff to it via your PC but tha's redundant. Why not just cut out the middle man?

Xbox isn't a stereo? It doesn't have full USB keyboard support? What the fuck? Where are you getting your information?

Probably gonna be a shitty flash game if it's coming out in a few months and there's still zero information about it.

That's my MarkyR. Always taking care of your bread and butter.

Yep, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Actually I think this is an EA thing.

Dead Space 2, no PC demo, Bulletstorm, no PC demo, who wants to bet Crysis 2 won't have a PC demo either?

But seriously, Bulletstorm seems like a pretty important game to have a PC demo for.

News Comments > 2010 Game Sales Down
29. Re: 2010 Game Sales Down Jan 14, 2011, 07:39 ASJD

The 'real' significant numbers were 360 up quite a bit and Wii, PS3, DS, and PSP down.

The whole reason 2010 sales are down is because of the portable and Wii dropoff. The people who bought Wii on a lark in 2009 are probably not buying any video games at all in 2010.

I was having more fun playing games in 1994 and 1996 than I am today too, I think. Certainly I had more hope for the future back then. PC gaming still had tons of awesome exclusives and Japan was in a much better place too.

We are in the dark future, face it.

But STILL, I really enjoy gaming. Both this guy and I have spent a long time around games, of course it's going to be less fun. The guy obviously went in a weird direction in terms of games development too.

It does seem games development is worse than game playing proportionally.

mcvuk.com can't fucking read.

Playing a 3DS game instead of a DS game is the drain, not 3D. It's running those 3DS processors that drains the power. Turning on 3D on the parallax barrier display makes zero difference.

#1. They don't understand this tech
#2. They don't understand computers

Why the fuck is the guy that wrote that shit still working there? Why don't they hire me?

Wow, if they're basing the entire industry on this single experience, I don't think they've learned anything. What about the other hundreds of game developers who don't meet success like these guys. Part of their success has been due to the PC exclusivity, but if these guys were up against more exclusive PC games their numbers would be much less.

You don't say, oh, Call of Duty Black Ops sold 10 million on Xbox 360 very quickly, let's just keep making first person shooters for Xbox 360...

Oh wait...

Please put this on Onlive, many more people will be able to play this if you use that service. Installing this game is going to be a bitch, and if I'm lucky I'll get minimum specs, seems like the perfect type of game for OnLive.

Meh, I'll just skip it. Series is overrated and every iteration is the same as the last.

I am convinced Joystiq is receiving money with the way they've been covering OnLive. Even that quotation has outright fallacies within it.

Just saying. As long as they're really willing to fix the issues, the game will pick up.

No, Anarchy Online was way better in many ways.

The 'trick' to making this widespread is forcing it on people, like the Wii. On Xbox 360 Kinect is your only choice.

You have to force people on interface, PC has always been about mouse+KB and will remain until PC has changed into something completely different than what anyone would call a PC today.
