I should be thankful for these kinds of games. The more people playing games at home, the more room I have on the beach to myself.

I use an iPad a lot for business and reading. Still, for pure productivity, nothing compares to a keyboard and mouse.

Blue's house, his rules. I've always respected it even though I haven't always agreed with it.

I got banned here once for excessive trolling. I deserved it. I pleaded with Blue to let me back and he did. I love this site and the community. Blue himself is great and deserves a lot of respect. I realize I tread the fence quite often. I'm just a highly opinionated person. I'm sure I even seem anti-gamer. It's not the case. I hate consoles, MMOs, and basically anything that creates brainless, basement dwelling, obese zombies. I really like FPS games or anything that requires developing skill. I believe if a game or hobby interferes with a person's ability to personally grow, physical health, or the ability to make real-life friends, it has to go -- I'm looking at you MMOs.

... /end rambling

From the article:

What followed was as depressing a flood of vicious and hateful comments as you'll ever see, mostly of course directed at Petit because of her gender.

What gender is that exactly?

The only space game that held my attention longer than a few days was Freelancer. Most just get extremely boring, repetitive, and vacuous. Freelancer got the same way, it just took a little longer.

People who cry free speech need to read the First Amendment.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Unless the moderator, company, or host is a member of Congress, there is no violation of the First Amendment.

Sexual harassment is still sexual harassment and it is up to the individual to determine whether they consider it acceptable. Brad's behaviour was absolutely disgusting and I think she was completely justified in what she did.

Agreed. He's lucky her bf or husband didn't attempt his own form of justice.

You know there is no way you can bring a class-action suit anymore to ANY company right? You agreed to that when you agreed to the ToS or EULA. Every single one of them has that anti-class-action suit clause in it now. So they can go ban happy and each person has to represent themselves to an arbiter who Sony pays for FYI. So justice ha, good luck with that. Everyone thank the judges who said it's OK to click away certain rights in ToS and EULAs that 95% of people don't read and majority of probably wouldn't understand even if they did.

I wonder if this has ever been tested. Has someone tried and failed due to the TOS or EULA?

The simple answer to Twitter abuse is displayable and authenticated home address information; possibly limited to designated moderators. Most online bullies hide behind anonymity. If you take that away, they will think twice before posting. Virtual communication needs to be merged with the harsh consequences of real life interaction.

The Intel + Nvidia combination are still the best for PC gaming. Better drivers and performance. I have yet to see this proven wrong.

Once Twitter goes IPO, suddenly the morality and ethics of the more powerful investors will take hold. Expect a lot of pressure on Twitter to be controlled by commercial and profit interests. They will have no choice in the end.

My wife lost her mom years ago and it still hurts her to this day. I make an effort to visit my mom whenever we can. You just never know when that moment will happen. Cheer up Blue. Focus on your wife and living loved ones. Give them all big hugs and lots of love. Cherish the people you have around today. Tomorrow is unpredictable.

From the article: Romero said. "In working with UCSC, my goal is to push students toward innovation while working on my own new indie projects alongside them."

Let's see if the student or teacher can get to the patent office first.

News Comments > New EA CEO
9. Re: New EA CEO Sep 17, 2013, 22:54 BobBob

A fellow had just been hired as the new CEO of a large high tech corporation. The CEO who was stepping down met with him privately and presented him with three numbered envelopes. "Open these if you run up against a problem you don't think you can solve," he said.

Well, things went along pretty smoothly, but six months later, sales took a downturn and he was really catching a lot of heat. About at his wit's end, he remembered the envelopes. He went to his drawer and took out the first envelope. The message read, "Blame your predecessor."

The new CEO called a press conference and tactfully laid the blame at the feet of the previous CEO. Satisfied with his comments, the press -- and Wall Street - responded positively, sales began to pick up and the problem was soon behind him.

About a year later, the company was again experiencing a slight dip in sales, combined with serious product problems. Having learned from his previous experience, the CEO quickly opened the second envelope. The message read, "Reorganize." This he did, and the company quickly rebounded.

After several consecutive profitable quarters, the company once again fell on difficult times. The CEO went to his office, closed the door and opened the third envelope.

The message said, "Prepare three envelopes."
