For those that were wondering:

The Burger menu that came out for the last patch works fine with the one released last night. They apparently did an EXE only patch to address performance issues.

You can get the current version of the Burger/Debug Mod here or here.

I recommend verifying the integrity of your files and re-applying the mod to avoid any unnecessary weirdness.

I guess I'm one of the few that really just doesn't care about this game.

Just get on with Episode 3 for the love of all that is holy (and some that is not)...

Remember if you used the original dev menu mod (burger menu) that you have to re-verify files to get the proper official patch.000 and then go get the new version of the burger menu which is name now patch.001

As least this was the case as of last patch. Dunno about this patch, haven't tried it yet.

I know that the new patch, whatever id did, did not add a new patch file (patch1.000 still has the same creation date, and there is no patch2.000).

I was going to try the old Burger patch out at lunch and see if it still worked.

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Biasing a palette is an artistic decision, not a technical one.

The whole game was done in this style intentionally. Like DX was in blue. And DX:IW was purple. I don't get why you'd want to remove it.

Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

I just have to say this: I'm incredibly impressed with Eidos's support o this game post-launch. I hope that this becomes a norm rather than an exception, and that they keep up the great work.

Well that and the fact that this is mostly WoW expansion and Facebook games.

I'm honestly quite surprised that NV/ATI are weathering this economic climate, given the fact that 5-year-old 8xxx series hardware still runs most modern games admirably well. I'm still running a pair of 8800GTX's in SLI on my current rig, and I can play *anything* maxxed out in HD resolution.

All I lose out on is tessilation (Oooooo...)

^D^

Heh...;) Keep telling yourself that...;) Or, do what I did and replace your aging 8800GTs with a single inexpensive AMD HD 5770 or 6770--and get ready for some vastly improved graphics. And I don't mean DX11 vs DX9--I'm talking vastly improved DX9 game displays. Until you yank those old ponies out and replace them with something current you simply won't be able to imagine let alone appreciate the difference that will greet you eyes the very first time you game. I was amazed, frankly. Now I am assuming that your current monitor isn't as old hat as your gpus--'cause if you are still doing CRT or you are looking at a 5-year-old LCD display, then I might not bother. Ugh...;) Seriously guy, you are missing a lot, no kidding.

I have a Radeon 6-series card in my shuttle in the livingroom; I really just don't see a big difference between the 8800gtx and the 6770 IQ.

Now going back to the 7950gtx? There I DEFINITELY see a quality dropoff....

*shrug*

PS: That you, |2|?

News Comments > New XCOM "Adheres to the Tenets" of X-COM (By Changing Everything)

Beelzebud wrote on Sep 22, 2011, 16:22:
It's Fallout all over again, with the same people saying "Well I never played the original, but this looks cool!".

What is really sad is that the original X-Com was released on the Playstation. There is no excuse besides laziness, and not having any original concepts for their own damned game.

Honestly?

My flippant tongue in cheek comment earlier in the thread aside, I think 2K:M addressed all of that in this video. They are doing a genesis story, not tacking on to the events that were in the originals. Making something new that doesn't detract from the old. DX:HR did the same thing, most panned the idea, now just about everyone here loves it.

Now I can't say whether the game will be good or not, but the mechanics and the style of the artwork do seem intriguing; like an x-files in the 50s. The idea of seeking out and upgrading your team in an FPS sounds appealing as well.

You're right about the Fallout thing. Many that never played XCOM will get this because it's different. But consider this: I honestly never played Fallout 1/2/T until after I played FO:3. Those types of games just didn't appeal to me back then, but the new ones made me rethink that, and caused me to seek them out and pay for / play them.

And I don't think that's a bad thing for deserving IP at all.

Haha, yeah I mean that all of those games had at least one of those qualities; interesting characters, monsters, or plot. With Quake it was the all about the monsters, weapons and ambiance. I still find the Quake monsters far more memorable than the strogg strogg strogg of later installments.

It wouldn't be possible for me to agree more withing the confines of this universe.

Best quote from that mess of an article's feedback column:

When you go 8 years without releasing a game or licensing your engine your Ferrari supply dwindles. Doesn't really effect Todd or Carmack, as they get cuts from licensing, but sure will hurt the pockets of everyone else.

Consider they're no longer doing engine licensing, I'm sure things are different now.

They weren't doing engine licensing much in those 8 years.
The licensing I meant was IP licensing.
