People that use anti virus programs are just as retarded as the ones that spend 80 dollars for Norton to "protect" their machines and then have it just break everything.

I've had to fix many a machine from people taking that stance. Once you plug a virgin machine into a network, it takes about 20 seconds before machines start getting pinged with known Windows exploits, per what I've seen monitoring IP traffic where I work with EtherApe and Wireshark.

20 seconds before every hacker in China, Russia, and god knows where else starts flooding your network until something works. NAT helps to a degree, but it won't protect you from them all.

Personally, I'm just not that cavalier with my personal data, and someone calling me a retard isn't going to change the fact that it's just plain stupid to run an unprotected machine and expect to retain any degree of security whatsoever.

YMMV.

It's somewhat odd, as I run multiple rigs, and the one I happened to install Skyrim on happened to also be the one I still had Threatfire on. In general, it hasn't caused many problems. I can't really say anything bad about it, as it has caugh a page or two off Yahoo! Links my wife visited. On this particular machine, it was running over MS Security Essentials, and both seemed fairly benign until 11-11-11 hit ;-)

That said, I doubt that I'll continue running it over MSSE, as this is actually the third game I've had issues with when running Threatfire. That, added to the fact that Lady ^D^ now has a MacBook Air she does everything on, really means that the marginally better security that the heuristic threat detection offers probably just isn't worth the hassle it gives until you realize what is driving the problem.

For those that are having problems getting into the game at all (i.e. the game crashes with the message "Skyrim has stopped working," after hitting "play" in the launcher:

It looks like the PC version of Skyrim is not something that PCTools Threatfire likes. Threatfire causes the game to crash at the launcher when you hit "play" with no message, other than "Skyrim has stopped working.".

How did I figure this out? I had a similar problem With CoD: World at War a while back which made me think Threatfire might be the issue.

The easiest way to fix the issue is to just uninstall Threatfire completely. (Note: You can force-quit Threatfire from the process monitor, but you also have to force-quit ALL other ThreatFire/PC Tools modules to make that work. It's not trivial or an easy thing to do for people with limited PC skills.)

EDIT: Here's a "simpler" way to stop ThreatFire without uninstalling it:

(1) Ctr+right click Threatfire in the systray and select "exit."
(2) In an administrator-level CMD windo, type" net stop threatfire"

Note: "Suspending" ThreatFire alone from the systray will NOT fix the problem.

Hoping that the rumored AES256 is true. If so, you really can't ask them to do much more, aside from encryping all of your PM that way (which may not be a bad idea).

I wish they would come out and say it, though, but I understand the libel reasons for them not doing so. Even my friends as Valve won't comment on it, so you know they are taking it seriously.

I'll strive to do better next time.

There is ONE REASON why the majority of the posts below are negative. THAT REASON is becuase people like me OWN YOU THE SECOND YOU LOG ONTO MULTIPLAYER SERVERS.

And I dont mean they are getting beat 12-8. I mean they get OWNED by hard core players 33-1.

AND THAT 1 is from second chance when I happen to be reloading and knifing some other poor fool.

THATS WHY THEY DONT LIKE IT. HAHAhAHAAHAhaahahaaha

Wow.

Hey, Blue: you should talk to Verizon. Looks like we're getting XBL Forums postings here. Probably a mis-route.

...an intense single-player campaign that picks up immediately following the events of Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 and escalates into World War 3...

Sounds like Michael Bay took over the franchise. I thought the whole premise of MW was to fight skirmishes in order to avoid WW3....

5 HOURS?

Seriously Activision?

$12.50/hour of SP action is BS.

Good lord.

They've been 5 hours for like 5 years now, why are you surprised?

Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but MW2 and BO seemed much longer than 5 hours.

One review said it was very brief, and that it took the guy about 5 hours.

Good lord.

I get the same playtime out of Deus Ex DLC for a mere 15 bucks.

Definitely a rental. At best.

Wow what a ridiculous scenario. It's like they have watched too many 24 episodes.

Exactly. It isn't "mature", it's juvenile.

Ah, ok. And spitting on someone or wishing them a violent death because they didn't design a game the way you wanted it to be made IS mature.

I get it.

Completely.

We have 3rd person cover mechanics AGAIN after the abysmal failure of the last two R6 games that tried it.

I'm prefacing what I say by first saying it is not an endorsement nor a criticism of the game, but you really need to check the numbers. The "Rainbow Six Vegas" games were the best sellers in the franchise. Period.

I have an iPhone 4s...and, to be blatantly honest, I didn't even know Siri was down. I guess I just don't use it enough to have thought it to be anything more than a glitch, in retrospect.

The point is to simulate gameplay for critical review (usually with an existing game engine) before committing to the hard work of actually making the game.

Game mechanics aside, um, wow...talk about an adult storyline.

O.o

Actually, I'm pretty sure that being a raging sociopath is tightly linked to homicidal tendancies.

They are looking at it wrong.

I believe that a high number of killers play violent video games. I DON'T believe a high number of people that play violent video games are murderers, though.

If that were the case, we'd be drowning in blood.

Add me to Team Dragon (HAH!)

This is one battle that seems obscenely one sided.

Unless, of course, these are black warhorse unicorns with flaming red eyes that stand 30' tall at the shoulder.

Well, that's still probably one-sided.
