I think the H2H combat is great, reminiscent of Arkham Asylum/City. However once they gave me a gun I thought the gunplay was super clunky, didn't like it at all, wouldn't let me aim out of cover for some reason, feels consolized. I really wanted to like this game too.

While I'm not very far in the game (7 hours, but a lot of exploring and side missions), it's my understanding that guns are rare (other than a mission where I leaned out of a car to blow up motorcycles, I've seen one pistol and thats it). You can't buy then in the game, and if you run around with anything other than a concealed pistol (ie not drawn) the police will come after you. I hear there is more gunplay later on, but the primary focus is hand to hand combat. Guns are viewed as a disposable powerup.

Also, a gamepad is highly recommended.

After the first few hours of getting the hang of it, I'm really enjoying the game, a lot more than I thought I would.

If that is true and they are rare I may actually enjoy it. But for the few times you have to use a gun, after my experience using one in the demo you'd be hard pressed to get me to pay full price for the game to have to use a 360 controller to play it properly. That kind of laziness pisses me off.

Well it's obviously sad. But it's also hilarious that he thinks 1 single person is going to think it's the same Black Isle or buy anything it makes knowing the truth.

the diablo 3 design puts too much weight on the item system, and the item system isn't good enough to support so much of the game. it is pitiful actually that they launched a game incomplete, untested, broken and without knowing how to fix it.

He's like the director of the Total Recall remake - putting his own "vision" on an already pretty great thing which turns out to be doing the exact opposite of what made the original so great. Where do they find these guys?

No offense but Total Recall was an absolute fail example to use. As the original movie was the directors own "vision" based off of a novel and he turned it in to an utter crap Arnold movie. The NEW Total Recall is great and follows the original "vision" of the book pretty much spot on. The original movie was hardly "great"

In the video game industry, history shows that past performance is not indicative of future performance. High profile examples include Richard Garriot, Warren Spector, Molyneux...

Whoa, whoa, WHOA. Hold on there a sec. Molyneux has recently given us one of the greatest RPGs ever made in the history of gaming: Fable III. I dare you to name a better RPG. DARE YOU.

I loved CS. However, I still won't buy this without a demo.

I was in Beta. It's meh. It's CS:Source with a little more shine, better scoreboards and the pausing kills like Team Fortress, a consolized purchase wheel and more weapons. Achievements like they said, a few alternate routes on some of the classic maps like Dust so that there aren't as many bottlenecks. It's nice but not 15 bucks for another Counterstrike Nice.

I call absolute bullshit on 35 Million members on Uplay.

For one Uplay is absolute garbage and i was annoyed I had to have it installed to play Future Soldier or Conviction. Not to mention Ubisoft support is some of the absolute worst I have ever had to deal with when I had an issue with Conviction.

Fuck Ubisoft, Fuck Uplay. Absolutely unfortunate since I thought Watch Dogs looked amazing but I don't want that shit installed on my PC ever again.

It would be tragically hilarious if they announced that they haven't worked on HL3 at all, this entire time. It wouldn't really surprise me either... they make a sick amount of money from the Steam platform, and nonsense like TF2 items, why would they tackle the comparatively enormous project of attempting to make a GREAT fps? Especially since the employees basically work on whatever project catches their interest that day?

Answer: they probably didn't.

Why would they?
Because working on something big and important is more fun than working on something less so? Yes, you burn out if it's all you do, and you like less high profile projects to take bigger risks on, but ultimately spectacle is a ton of fun. No one wants to do something that's just ok, people want to do something that's awesome and blows everyone's brains.

Really? Tell that to Activision, they're completely content doing nothing awesome year after year after year...

I originally backed this with enough to get the second controller due to excitement over an Open Source Console... but then like Verno said, it started to seem deceptive at times, too many questions unanswered. Pulled my backing and decided I'd let other people be the Guinea Pigs till I find out if it's another Phantom.

The most popular cellphone games work like this.

Name five.

Words With Friends
Scramble With Friends
Hanging With Friends
Draw Something
Carcassonne
Worms 2
Scrabble
Dominion
Uniwar

I don't even have iOS or Android and I can name these off the top of my head.
There is also a Chess game that is turn based. I believe Strategry also has the same style Multiplayer (It's a Risk style game) unfortunately the actual Risk game does not.

Why hate on the iOS? They have JOBS in a shitty economy. They're still working on a game, and they're working on an Epic IP which is what they wanted to do. And the UT3 engine runs great on the 4S and iPad3.
I love both Infinity Blade games, have been a great source of entertainment to kill downtime at work.

EA: Madden "did not have the level of innovation as our other franchises".

No fucking shit. There is no need to innovate when you make it so you have no competition. Retarded asshats. So fucking scared that 2K was better you bought the license out.

Why?

I can't think of a single piece of software that I have installed that I think, "I'd rather have this on Steam!"

Unless the rumors of Valve making a "Steambox" are true and this is just one more step toward Valve turning Steam into a desktop environment/window manager for Linux.

It has nothing to do with "I'd rather have this on Steam" it has to do with Consumer Convenience, it makes money.

I actually enjoyed this Prince of Persia more than any of the Sands of Time Trilogy and was super disappointed they never returned to it. Still pisses me off.

The code is still solid and he pushes coding to the edge. However, I have always said that ID lost their creative force when John Romero left (or was fired). If these meat bags ever lose their pride, I would love to see a reunion. This reminds me of what a lead singer in a Rock and Roll band once said. A reporter asked how is the band getting along now? The lead singer replied, "Like it or not, we have chemistry so we will have to work through our issues." Enough said...

He already had the idea in his head to leave and start a new company with Tom Hall, when he was asked to step down by Adrian, Kevin and Carmack. So he signed the resignation and said fuck you guys anyway. More or less.

Though I'm sure he tells everyone he quit to make Daikatana.

Read "Masters of Doom". It's a great book, well written, and gives you insight into the world of the id Software that once was. You know, the Innovative, Ground Breaking, Imaginitive id of the early 90's.

The fact of the matter is the two Johns are pretty much worthless without each other is what I gathered from reading the book. Carmack could design a great engine but it took Romero to bring it to life, and Romero brought the ideas to the table once Carmack decided what he wanted to do with the next engine. It worked well, and they ruined that system.

I beta tested this for a month or two.

It was okay. Nothing spectacular. Felt like Counter Strike Deathmatch as far as the weapons play. No objectives in what I got to play really.

I felt Blacklight Retribution was still better after testing it. But it's not terrible.

Sony should have put these guys on the Planetside 2 team instead of making a secondary F2PFPS.
