Hey, I'll be the one to judge how much pornography is excessive.

They should make it like 2D Wolfenstein in FPS. None of the weird powers, zombies, etc.

But surely they should include mecha-hitler.

Well yeah if you're serious about playing games you own a copy of Windows, even if you duel boot. Carmack is just stating that economic reality, he's not saying we live in the best possible world.

EA getting it makes me wonder if its just because of their sheer size they are likely to have some good stuff, or because they have the juice to get a lot of good reviews. More probably a mix of both.

If by "juice" you mean "Advertisement dollars", then yes.
Well that and everything else that marketing does to boost scores. I was thinking of the more shady stuff when I said that. I'm sure it all goes into the marketing budget.

Yeah, access to devs, exclusive previews, paid flights to dev HQ, etc. etc. And there's also shady stuff where the author of a review might say what he thinks, but then the number assigned to the review is made 10 points higher by the site manager.

There is an incestuous relationship between the gaming press that and the gaming industry that gives them 100% of their advertizing revenue. Unfortunately I haven't found any more objective measure of games than mertacritic. It's all tainted; but at least they give you the average of the taint.

Why not just include proper PC textures in the PC version from the start? I remember other console ports doing the same thing, and pretending like it's a free bonus rather than a patch to complete the game posthoc.

I hope once they make a production version it will accommodate wearing your glasses at the same time. The two prescription eye cups definitely wouldn't work for me, and needing to wear contacts would be a deal breaker.

Square COO quit after sex harassment accusation.

Not to be confused with the video game company, it's a completely unrelated financial services company.

Somehow I don't buy their claim that they limited city sizes that drastically due to client side performance issues. I suspect it's really a decision made based on their online business model; either because their servers can't handle tons of big cities, or they don't want for cities to be independent and self-sufficient.

If Relic is allowed to keep their Warhammer 40k license then Sega now holds all Warhammer licenses I think. Creative Assembly was just given the rights to do a Warhammer fantasy game.

I think it's only the 40k setting that had an exclusive publishing deal. It seems like the Warhammer fantasy setting is just licensed per-game to whoever wants it. That's cool though, Creative Assembly is a good match for Warhammer fantasy.

Seems like whoever wrote those terms was afraid of bad publicity caused by exploits before release. And they're right to be; one consequence of making the game online only is that customers will get irritated by cheats and hacks.

But actually following through with a universal ban for screwing around in a beta test would cause far more bad press then it prevents. I think it's an empty threat.

launch trailer looks good

After RAGEs user score, the user score on metacritic means absolutely nothing except along with the usual metacritic score. YouTube is the only way to see if a game is worth it outside of a Demo.

Yeah, metacritic "user" reviews for games have been nothing but trolls trolling trolls for a long time now. I think the gaming press knows this, but continues to report on it to gin up controversy.

What would you rather have them be working on? Homeworld 3?
I sure would have preferred that! Do they still own the rights to Homeworld?

It seems that THQ acquired the rights to Homeworld back in 2007.

http://homeworld.wikia.com/wiki/Homeworld_3

If it's one of their IPs, I guess it might be up for sale right now. Personally I'd like to see Relic do something original that's not based on an existing IP. . . You know, like Double Fine is known for.

It might be a good thing if Relic loses the rights to the IP's it's been working on since it's acquisition by THQ. They've been doing almost nothing but 40k and CoH for the last 9 years, it's getting stale.

The internet needs to start a petition demanding they add zombies to whatever the hell they're making. I don't know why we're putting up with this.

This does sound really cool, though. I'd really love to try it out. I guess for an FPS, your head set becomes your mouse? So you'd aim with your head? And instead of a keyboard, you could use a controller for shooting and movement.

The Unreal Tournament 3 demo seemed to have a gamepad for quick turning combined with head tracking for more precise aiming.

But if this takes off it will really benefit from new controllers. One of the things that makes VR immersive and convincing is if you can see a virtual representation of your body or at least part of it. So, a lot of VR setups have a gun controller or a glove that's fully motion captured. It's such a weird sensation to be able to see your hand in game, but it really helps sell the illusion of VR.

While Bioware is known for having Romance Opportunities in their games, since this wasn't in at launch... I have to agree that it looks like a desperate afterthought, and probably is too late. There's just too many bad design decisions in SWTOR, and they shouldn't have spent the majority of their budget on the fucking voice-overs.

It's sad, really.

There were multiple romance opportunities for all 8 classes at launch. They were just all hetero. But, they announced before launch that they'd be adding same-sex options at a later date, so they're following through with what they promised.

3D most likely we'll just be a come along for the ride, since it makes a lot of sense tacking it on with two seperate LCD's for perfect convergence.

I don't know a lot about it so I'm curious, how do VR glasses fix the convergence problem? My understanding is that convergence is where your eyes are pointed, and that naturally changes based on the distance to the object you're focusing on (more or less cross eyed). But even with VR glasses the screens are still a fixed distance from your eyes.

Would they need eye tracking to allow your eyes to converge on any object in the scene?
