Yeah if you don't have portal 2, now is definitely the time. That is a steal.

I just want to see an MMO that does not use the Wow Formula. Design your own combat systems. Design your own skill systems. Stop making every MMO exactly the same game with a different skin on it.

Say what you will about Asheron's Call and Everquest, but at least in that era there was a clear distinction between the games.

News Comments > On EA and Indies
1. Re: On EA and Indies May 5, 2012, 15:49 Beelzebud

Here is the problem.

They took the concept from the Humble Indie Bundle, so when people see "Indie Bundle" they assume that this is being handled as a 'pay what you want' promotion, and some of the money goes to charity.

What EA did was co-opt the "indie bundle" brand, and charge 20.00 for it, with no money going to charity. If they don't see why people are upset about it, they're more tone deaf than I imagined.

Are these games technically made by indie studios? Yeah, but that's not what people are pissed about here. It's EA brazenly using the "indie bundle" concept to turn a quick buck for themselves.

I don't have fond memories of fileplanet like most people seem to have.

CDROM.Com was the good site, and when it closed up, and mutated into file planet, it was all downhill.

Bethesda was making a good profit.

...Until they took an MMO to the knee.

Sorry.

I wonder how long it is until publishers start bad mouthing people who wait for price drops, sales, and GOTY editions. You know it's coming.

Trickle Down Economics, indeed. You keep handing them money, and they'll trickle some content out.

Personally I don't donate to any KS projects that don't have a known game developer behind them. That's not to say that all unknown people can't be trusted, but if they do put out a good game, I'll buy it retail, and they'll benefit from that.

In my dreams, this game will be a huge commercial success and inspire a publisher like Bethesda to invest in a big budget open world RPG. Complete freedom of character development, combined with a party system, set in the Shadowrun universe with two or three diverse cities/regions to explore, a deep, fleshed out Matrix and Astral Plane...

Bethesda had their chance to do that when they got the rights to Fallout, and they blew it.

I'm glad Fringe got it's 5th season, but they really need to reign in the writers and get some focus on that show. I'm not even sure WTF is going on right now between the porcupine people that keep showing up, and the lab ship out at sea. Last week's episode was a giant disconnected episode that made little sense in context of the narrative.

It's sad to see games going down the same corporate road that everything else has. Pretty soon it's going to be a few huge mammoth companies controlling all studios.

I'd say that putting their focus on consoles didn't help them stay in business. It produced their first complete flop, and put them in a position to have to sell the company.
Zenimax (Bethesda's parent company) bought id Software more than two years before Rage was released.

Yes, and all the money they tossed at Rage, put them in a position where they had to sell their company, which was my point.

This is now QuakeCon in name only. They should just rename it to BethesdaCon. Just look at where it was announced...

Alan Wake was an amazing looking game. Right up until someone had to talk, and then the Quake 2 era animations killed it.

To me it's amazing that in 2012, there are still barely any games that can top Half Life 2's animations.

it is fine that bethesda is expanding. but they should not attach their name to every shitty game that comes along. attach these crappy games to id software or whatever else.

If they don't want crappy games associated with their brand, then perhaps they should stop rushing developers to release unfinished games for them to publish.

Id Software has nothing to do with this game, so I'm not sure why you think they should just "attach" it to them. Bethesda is the publisher, not Id.

I don't see the disconnect. FOR ME PERSONALLY I WILL NOT BE MISSING OUT BY NOT PLAYING THOSE TWO GAMES!

Is that clear enough for you? No game is essential, therefore my life goes on if I don't play these two games. You may look at it differently, and you're free to do so, but stop trying to correct my opinion.

I know how I feel about things, and I know I won't be missing out on these two games.

If some dev said "Yeah, I'll use this funds to pay for my rent, and my laundry, and my lunches, and my attorney fees, and taking my girlfriend to see a musical", I wouldn't give him a dime.

Yeah but you are doing that. What do you think these guys will be living on while they make the game? Love? Paying for a game means paying salary too. As long as its reasonable no one should have a problem with that.

ANYWAY.............We can all give ourselves a pat on the back. And I can't wait to get my hands on this mofo!

Yeah I was puzzled by that comment, myself. Are they supposed to live in a van down by the river while they make the game? Paying people is why it takes money to make games. What people do with their earned money is their own damned business!

That being said, Brian Fargo isn't even paying himself out of this money, that's how awesome he is.

Ok, sure, if you want to take that idiotic attitude. From that perspective, you wouldn't miss anything if you were never to play a single game ever again. Fine, that might be true. But on a game forum, it's rather expected that we (shock!) have people interested in playing games. And from that perspective, BF3 and ME3 are two very good ones. If you like playing games, and you like playing good games, then yes, you are missing out by skipping them.

It's not an idiotic attitude, unless you jump to conclusions like you just did. Missing out on two games from Origin is nothing, and says nothing about how much of a "real" gamer I am.

The last time I bought a Battlefield game from EA, they locked me out of it for 2 years saying that my CD Key was invalid, (Dice finally patched out the DRM after 2 years, but by that time I no longer gave a shit) so forgive me if I don't trust them with my hard earned cash again.

There are literally hundreds of games that have came out in the past 12 months, my gaming hobby will be fine.
