Annoying and expensive permit issues, potential conflicts with local unions, hostile residents, etc. It's not uncommon to deal with bribery and corruption too. Getting fiber laid anywhere is a fucking nightmare, when I worked at UUNet we would basically spec out a project then multiply our final figure by three to account for municipality bullshit and other problems. And what about the many cases where the Telcos/Cablecos aren't picking up the slack and actually suing municipalities who want to build and maintain their own infrastructure because they have no other option. No, the big COs are the real problem. You obviously don't work for a municipality. Your ignorance shows that. |

I'm done with people bitching about DRM laiden digital distro platforms and then praising their 100 titles on steam in the same breath. Doesn't mean that's gonna stop happening all the time. |

EA hasn't done anything really new outside of mobile and partners in a long time and don't seem to be starting any time soon. Activision launches new IP all the time, they just aim for different market segments than EA. Activisions main push over the past few years has been kids, they're investing in a future market where EA is instead trying to milk its IP bank for all its worth. It is important because it nullifies your entire statement, it not a semantical difference.
As for Activision, Ubisoft or any other publisher; no one cares whether they new IP all the time or not as their list of sins wasn't enough to get them winning this dubious honor two years running. EA didn't win because they failed to launch a new IP this year.
Activisions new IP is Skylanders. Someone get Trollindunder a tissue...
One new IP vs a handful that no one supported, Mirror's flopped, the Army of Two games don't sell. Jesus Christ you people can't even discuss a topic without name calling or calling someone a troll. I swear BN has to have the most toxic regular posters of just about any gaming site. |

Beamer wrote on Apr 9, 2013, 10:43: What new IPs has EA pushed out?
I mean, they just did a new Army of Two!
EA Partners has given us some fantastic games. But EA itself hasn't really given us anything good other than what BioWare has been doing. There's a huge, huge gap between what Partners is doing and what EA proper is doing. EA proper has seemed like a lost ship in some ways. It doesn't seem to know what it wants to be or how to become it. Army of Two, Mirrors Edge, Dragon Age, Dead Space, all in just the past few years. How many new IP's have Activision put out lately?
Their sports games aren't complete garbage anymore either but that means nothing to PC folks I get that since they no longer do a PC sku for the majority of their sports titles.
I don't think you're off the mark though in that they don't seem to have a clear direction across all studios/divisions. I think that's a pretty fair thing to say. |

I was actually surprised to see this reply by EA and was going WTF when i saw it, just waiting what the reply would be by Consumerist (Since they have the site stats to prove that wrong), because I couldn't believe he was seriously saying that ANTI GAY RIGHTS ACTIVISTS and MADDEN COVER IMAGE HATERS are responsible for their worst company of the year, for 2 years, award.
I mean.. wow. that is just.. wow. Does this guy even know understand comprehend with his brain how the voting works? EA's made it's mistakes, and continues to make some. That Sims Always on thing being the latest major one. However, I think people need to give them at least a little bit of credit for continuing to release new IP. Something Activision sure as shit hasn't done in a long while.
I'm not sure what this EA rep is going on about with anti gay or who happens to be the yearly Madden cover guy, I don't remember gamers ever whining about either one of those, just plenty of other things some justified some not. |

For 500 bucks it better give me a reach around. Not interested in a 500 dollar console that forces an always on connection like MS's NextBox is rumored to require.
And unless the next gen versions of NHL and Madden actually are next gen this time right away rather than the idea of rebooting both franchises again. I won't be getting a PS4 either. |

All I care about is capability, if I can get a good form factor that is portable with most of the power I want then I'm happy either way, I don't give a shit what its labeled as. And all they're talking about is form factor.
The desktop PC has been on life support for a while. People saying companies will continue using them are incorrect - companies are switching to laptops very rapidly.
The laptop, therefore will last longer. But it's dying, too.
There are better, more useful form factors. The sky is falling PC is dying! Do you people ever get tired of proclaiming this every 5 years or so? |

Yeah, I enjoyed watching Johnny a lot, but never cared for Leno or Letterman, and I hate Fallon and O'Brian. Carson was great. Honestly even though I don't care for Letterman, I still think he should have originally gotten the Tonight Show, considering all the years he put in being the Late Show after Carson's show, and he was promised the Tonight Show when Carson retired. Johnny Carson: King of Late Night is an amazing documentary from the American Masters series. Watch it if you haven't seen it. And yeah, there's one point where Carson shows up to do Dave's Top Ten list and show the suits that he wanted Dave to take over his show. Carson I only slightly cared for, Leno . . . well, I liked his Headlines and Jay Walking, O'Brian did a pretty funny Clinton gag, not much else. And Fallon. Oh god, do I dislike this guy. Cannot stand his brand of comedy, cannot stand his jokes, cannot stand his delivery. I honestly do not know how anyone can find him funny. Of all the people who could get the Tonight Show . . . A lot of it for me is Carson was from that old guard of comedians, the Don Rickles and Dean Martin types, guys who were funny without swearing every other word of their set. Don't see that nowadays much. |

Fuck me if I haven't been blinded a million times driving at night because the car in the approaching lane and I meet at just the right rise/dip in the road and his ultra-bright halogens burn my eyeballs out of their sockets and sear the inside of my brain. Those things are fucking dangerous enough at is and Audi wants even brighter lights? Welp, I know who I'm suing when one causes me to have an accident. Halogen headlights are actually one of my biggest pet peeves. Sure they're great for the driver of the car with them, everyone else is shit out of luck and fucking blind as shit with how bright the fucking things are.
TLDR: If you need Halogen bulbs to drive at night, you shouldn't be allowed to fucking drive. |
