Doom was limited to 4 players in coop and DM. Duke 3D also was limited to 4 player MP. I remember playing 4-player DM in Duke 3D, but I can't remember if it had coop.

Hrm, Doom was 4 player DM I recall that. Then Quake 1+ was pretty much unlimited. Killing Floor, for a more modern example, is at least 6 players by default, and it's still playable.

I guess it's more of a personal dislike for 4 player coop, because it usually means my group of people has to either rotate people out, or field two groups, and then people start getting annoyed. And it's hard enough getting everybody together at the same time and willing to play the same game in the first place these days.

It's cases like this that make me want to don a tinfoil hat...

surely this fool knows his case won't win, and will be largely referred to as an example of a frivolous lawsuit? Even if his intention is just to force some sort of quick settlement from Apple?

Schemers like this guy seem like they are almost trying to bring ridiculous lawsuits just so the pendulum swings even further in favor of corporations against the common man. That seems like a paranoid conspiracy, I know.

Watch the film Hot Coffee, for an example of the other end of the spectrum, where people with valid lawsuits get basically laughed out of court because of the public perception of frivolous lawsuits, in part because of people like this guy suing Apple.

Even in this thread on a gaming website, people bring up forcing the plaintiff to face an uphill battle:

Creston wrote on Jul 15, 2013, 11:32:
If cockwallets like this dude would simply have to PAY for all court costs, including defense lawyer fees, these kinds of idiot lawsuits would stop.

Creston

Sure, in THIS one case it'd be nice, but in every other VALID lawsuit case, the wounded party, usually a person with little to no financial means, would be screwed. The misconception of frivolous lawsuits in this country is just way out of hand, in spite of rare cases like this Apple-porn lawsuit.

What caused this nonsense where coop means a max of four players? I understand there was some console influence, with the Xbox(I think?) that could link 4 together, back in the day, but this is a PC/Mac only game... why is the cap 4 players here?

Full disclosure, I have no intention of contributing to this kickstarter, purely because I have a ton of other stuff backlogged already to play, but the 4 player limit jumped out at me here.

PS. Steam Sale is only partially winning the battle vs my finances so far.

I cannot fathom this list... who was still without Half-Life? Weren't they giving that away for free for awhile?

Also, I was apparently the only person who thought Borderlands 2 got boring REAL quick.

I did pick up Tomb Raider, Hitman Absolution, Star Drive and HoMM 6. Be warned, HoMM 6 has Uplay attached, but so far it's good enough that I am forgiving it for that sin.

Also required: Stop buying Skyrim, so it drops in price more!

I... must be getting old. That looks like it's just going to give me a seizure.

It reminds me of old school 8-16 color games, but wtf at least update the graphics to cut down on the eye bleeding.

Pretty much why I play LoL rather than DOTA. The pro LoL scene is just amazing. 8 NA and 8 EU official salaried teams, matches every week, all leading up to the World Championships against Korea and China. It's a great time to be into MOBAs.

MOBAs really aren't my cup of tea, but they seem to be freaking huge these days. As long as people actually enjoy the game and aren't just there to act like complete shit to each other, gg. My only concern is the popularity of the MOBAs making more traditional RTS developers abandon what could have been good games, to take the 'easy' route and make a MOBA instead, aka Sins of a Solar Empire maker, Ironclad, who have fallen to the dark side.

Hrm, Defiance on sale for $13.59... the show has improved dramatically, although it started out pretty bad...

Has anyone actually played the game? Worth it for under 14 dollars?

Aka yes I can finally access the store at this point.

Assuming the Steam store recovers from this self inflicted DoS attack, let me know when Skyrim Legendary edition drops down to $9.99

Is the seasons pass worth it? I just started playing Borderlands 2 and not sure if I should get it, even though the seasons pass is on sale right now and im thinking about it.

My opinion: No. Borderlands 2 is inferior to Borderlands 1, and the 'end game' mechanics of BL2 are downright horrible. Weapon drops are still 50,000 crap weapons to 1 good weapon, the grinding is far worse, BL2 is just full of design mistakes and bad design decisions. I got bored of BL2 far faster than BL1.

Opinions may differ, of course, but there are plenty of other shooters out there that are more entertaining. Speaking of treadmill FPS/ARPG hybrids, has anyone actually tried the Defiance game? Any good? Crap?

I like how the "Xbox 180" has become the regular term for the device at this point.

As for the game, looks only mildly interesting to me. Bargain bin at best. Sacrilege, I know.

Nothing about a World of Warcraft movie makes sense to me. Video game movies suck. Even the "good" ones are still less than B-rate trash. People aren't going to run out to see this. Also, Duncan Jones. How did he go from Moon, which was brilliant, to this? It's a mindfuck.

It's possible, if very unlikely, that he could end up making a great film. Aside from that, I assume he got a dumptruck full of money on his lawn to make this movie.

Also, see the Hitman movie. Olga Kurylenko. *Drops Mic, walks off*

Wow, another four+ months before the itemization patch? Wtf have they been doing for the past 4-5 months since the last half assed patch?

Well this should free up some space on people's harddrives who were holding out hope of this game improving anytime soon.

What's crazy is that jet looks a lot like the fictional jet in that Clint Eastwood movie from the 80s, Firefox? Not to be confused with the browser, also if you remember seeing that movie you risk showing your age!

Lol, sleep crapping! If people can sleepwalk, climb to the roof of their house and play their tuba at 3am (supposedly true story) then surely they can stumble to the toilet, shit, then go back to bed.

If your plumbing is backing up that's a serious issue and you'd notice more than 1 turd, more like a bathroom overflowing with fecal slurry. Also, how the hell big is your cat, that it takes human size turds? Rofl!

*EDIT* Totally got sidetracked from what I was originally going to post:

Anno 2070, isn't that one of the dreaded Always Online Ubisoft DRM games? I remember it looking cool, then being forced to boycott it when it came out.

Looks like the previous Darkspore forum post was from some developer fed up with the state of affairs, and now this is the Company Line Statement. (tm)

That earlier message was probably a little too close to the truth for comfort.

PS. Darkspore is a horrible game, I played the beta briefly and was shockingly underwhelmed. Kudos to whoever posted that earlier message though!

I have some fond memories of EQ too, but I think nostalgia is coloring a lot of views here. So many of the mechanics in EQ were ridiculously lame when you step back and view them objectively; sure it's funny to think back to the HUNDREDS of hours people spent camping a Beholder Bag(0 weight bag monks needed) or the weak SoW boots or any of the other insane camps that most people felt were required to play, but the monotony of that shit needs to be remembered too.

I had definitely more social interaction in EQ than WoW, probably partially because of the downtime, but surely there are other ways to encourage that then just making the actual game mind numbingly boring? Doesn't anybody else remember looking at their spellbook for basically hours, and wondering what the fuck they were doing? Towards the point I finally wised up and quit EQ, obviously.

Everybody should realize that the days of super hard MMOs are most likely over, because any upcoming MMO will be designed to gather as many players as possible, and milk them as long as possible, like a good parasitic entity should. Most players as possible of course equals streamlined/easy gameplay.

EQNext is being hyped up as revolutionary, and I hope it is, but somehow I suspect it'll be nothing special when we finally see it.

And which games have also done this beside Titan Quest: Immortal Throne? (and that didn't even become unplayable, it just became really fucking annoying to play. Good news though: The bug apparently made it safely back into Grim Dawn!)

Creston

? I know we're getting a bit off topic here, but what Titan Quest bug was this? I put easily 200+ hours into TQ:IT, with no issues. Having some game breaking/seriously annoying engine based issue in Grim Dawn would be.. grim news...

Unless you mean that rubber banding thing?

I played it enough after patch 1.08 released to hit Paragon 38 which only took a week or so of casual grinding to make Inferno Machines. What blew my socks off was the fact that I sold a nearly perfect Leoric ring on the RMAH for $3 and bought more gold than I would ever likely farm on my own.

Once you get that much gold and given how easy it can be to get there thanks to selling shit on the RMAH, you've essentially beat the game and nothing ever becomes an 'ohhhh shiny' moment. For about 100m gold, I decked out my Barbarian to around 225k DPS and got to the point where I can walk over mobs in high MP games.

I essentially bought myself out of enjoying the game.

I am sorry you had to go through that. It's a pretty common story that I hear related to D3. That's why I never used the RMAH, and only used the GAH to buy some cheap Blacksmith plans, I knew it'd ruin the game for me. Of course my characters all look like they are without the AH, their gear is mostly trash, hehe. I do plan on going back to at least check out D3 after the next patch, but I'm honestly getting more enjoyment out of fiddling with TL2 these days, for my ARPG fix.

I wonder who is actually playing D3 right now... even if you aren't bored to death, it's pointless to play before patch 1.09(assuming it comes out in our lifetimes) when they do the re-itemization.

There are tens of thousands of bots of course, but I can't picture living people still in D3 at this point. This is dead time for that game.
