Oh, and it turns out I have the second one too. Heh. Yeah, I really should get around to playing those.
Creston I hate to say it, because of the bullshit DRM attached to many versions of these games, but the games themselves are awesome. Dead Space 2 is one of my favorite games, all time.
Dead Space 1 on the PC has enough annoying control issues that I am not repeatedly playing it like I am with the sequel, but it was good when it came out. |

Teddy wrote on Sep 20, 2011, 16:16: The problem with the Malazan series is that it does the exact thing that Martin refuses to do. It jumps directly on top of all the stereo-typical fantasy gimmicks and repeats them over and over and over. Every book has a new MORE POWERFUL enemy that needs to be faced, and even when they get to the point of killing off gods, there's still MORE POWERFUL things that suddenly appear that they need to deal with.
Add to that, when characters do die, it's often in irrelevant fashions that have very little to do with the actual conflicts they're in.
It's decently written, but the characters have nowhere near the level of depth of those of SOIAF, and frankly I find it often facepalmingly frustrating to read thanks to the ever escalating levels of power of everything. Well, you are right about that. There is definitely some serious power inflation going on, and I am about 90% through book 6. Still, I am enjoying the series, and I can avoid the most annoying part of Song of Ice and Fire, the 5+ year wait between novels. I assume part of the geometric increase in the Malazan series is due to the fact that Erikson wrote the first novel, then somewhat foolishly signed a deal for 9 more with his publisher. There is definitely some padding going on throughout the series. |

Fallout New Vegas suffers from some sort of horrible bullet mechanic, regardless of ammo. None of the projectile based weapons seem to do as much damage as they should and/or all enemies are inherently resistant to bullets. Even guys with low DT sometimes survive a critical headshot from an Anti Material rifle, especially in Old World Blues.
Lasers and Plasma, on the other hand... Even the Old World Blues enemies can be 1 or 2 shotted with a decent energy weapon, with or without Laser Commander perk, which just makes energy weapons obscene.
This is sort of annoying, as I originally started playing F:NV and attempting to be a guns focused character, but there are enough experience and skill books available to max several weapon types easily.
Energy Weapons/Explosives sync pretty well, only slightly better than Guns, which do require decent Perception, despite supposedly being Agility based.
Also, Annabelle > all enemies. The unique RL, easily picked up in Black Mountain. |

Song of Ice and Fire went downhill in quality, imo, with the last book. Plus, I am getting the feeling George RR Martin is going to pull a Robert Jordan, and probably not live to finish the series.
I do recommend Steven Erikson's Malazan series, which is arguably as well written or better, and as a bonus, it is actually finished.
It is pretty lengthy though, 10 extremely large novels(approximately 1000 pages each).

Wired vs Wireless bitching aside, actually reading the link, these mice seem to have a major flaw; supposedly they keep tracking even if you lift them up off the table.
At least for me, if I lift the mice up, I want it to STOP tracking, because I need to reposition the mouse on my available table space, I am being strangled from behind by a ninja, and I need to smash him in the head with the mouse, etc.
Also, am I the only one insulted by RTS gamers being lumped in with MMO players(sheep) ? |

Really? Hehe, I didn't even notice that one. I wonder how hard up for cash AMC/Breaking Bad is, to do that sort of thing. I heard they cut $250k per EPISODE of The Walking Dead season 2, AMC must be in some financial trouble, |

Speaking of Rage on TV, anybody see a character in Breaking Bad, playing Rage, briefly in 2 episodes so far this year? Of course, he's playing with a lightgun somehow... but still.
Ads in games? Rage counters with game ads in shows, apparently. |

I'm still on the fence in terms of boycotting Diablo 3 or not, but why the FUCK would they choose to use Paypal? Amazon Accounts would have made more sense, or any number of services.
Paypal, as others have said, has a long history of screwing with people, annoying fees, and no doubt straight up fraud.
Yet another poor choice from Blizzard/Activision.
Come on Grim Dawn and Path of Exile, be awesome.
*EDIT* Never bought any items in Diablo 1 or 2, or any game for that matter, so this won't do anything but insure I also avoid selling items in the RMAH. |

Apparently people have not gotten their fill yet of zombies as targets. I'm surprised, but what are Aliens and WW2 Nazis going to think?
Think of the Aliens and Nazis, people!
Also to a lesser extent, Terrorists. I'm making wrist bands for the above groups as I type this.(With my mind.) |

There are a few screenshots on the webpage, but the game description is a little vague.
I'm guessing this is another Diablo/Titan Quest clone? It may be good, just talk about a crowded market.
Diablo 3 Torchlight 2 Grim Dawn Path of Exile Legends of Dawn
Good luck to these guys.

I love how the maps in Rage look, console texture issues/recording issues aside, but... would it be too much to ask, to have them use some people who can aim halfway decently?
This clip just makes me embarrassed for the human race. |

Plus, I always wanted multiplayer for Max Payne (The Specialists HL1 mod ftw!) so this is great news finally for me! Hrm, multiplayer Max Payne I can live without, and I REALLY want Red Dead Redemption on PC... playing a borrowed copy on PS3, it's aggravating as hell, realizing how good this game would have been on a pc. It's mind boggling that Rockstar skipped PC for this one game. |

Teddy wrote on Sep 7, 2011, 20:33: They want to make money. They NEED to make money if they're going to put out any further games. That's why they're on steam primarily and not GoG or Gamersgate. It's pretty simple and straight-forward. Well, I know Steam is huge at this point, but neither Gamersgate or GoG are exactly small potatoes. Maybe simultaneous releases are too much to ask for though.
I do wonder what the percentages are, charged by each of the online services:
Steam Gamersgate GoG Greenmangaming Direct2Drive Impulse(heh) ..Anything else?
Flat percentage? Is each title a different distributing deal? A quick google search results in nothing, making me guess these guys all keep those sort of details under wraps except to game developers/publishers.
Comparison numbers in total sales, total cash value, etc. would be interesting also.
*EDIT* Grammar.

No DRM? Well, if they want to do that, talk to Gamersgate and gog.com... I know Steam is convenient, but developers who talk no DRM should really use the two services that you know, allow you to have no DRM.
Demo was ok, waiting for a Gamersgate release.
To be fair, the fact that Gamersgate and gog.com are both based outside of the US might be something of a barrier to some small indie studios. |

Well, has there been an official explanation of the 2 year Expiring time on Origin yet?
**EDIT: TL/DR version: yes, ToS updated August 25,2011. **
Aka is it definitively:
1) After 2 years of non use of an individual GAME, you lose that GAME. [From my reading of the ToS, apparently this IS the case.]
2) After 2 years of non-use of your ACCOUNT, you lose ALL games. [Also from the ToS, yes this is the case.]
3) Then the killer aspect: even if you use your ACCOUNT, if you don't use each individual GAME(and remember almost all previous EA games are now Origin games), then you lose each of those GAMES, regardless of how active your total Origin account is. [From my reading of the ToS, this is the case.]
ToS Here
**Search for 24. It is under Chapter 5 Content and Entitlement Availability. ** OLD ToS!?!?
*EDIT*Hrm, holy shit, they seem to have updated this to remove the 2 year thing.
Of course, it still says content/Entitlements (what a horrible legal term) will be removed at their disgression, but the 2 year thing appears to have been removed since August 25, 2011. Hesitant "yay" on my part.
Well, BF3 has gone from being a boycott back to at the very least a bargain bin game...
For the record, old ToS verion from June: "We do not guarantee that any Content or Entitlement will be available at all times or at any given time or that we will continue to offer particular Content or Entitlements for any particular length of time. We reserve the right to change and update Content and Entitlements without notice to you. If you have not used your Entitlements or Account for twenty four (24) months or more and your Account has associated Entitlements, your Entitlements will expire and your Account may be cancelled for non-use."
New version (August 25th): "We do not guarantee that any Content or Entitlement will be available at all times, in all countries and/or geographic locations, or at any given time or that we will continue to offer particular Content or Entitlements for any particular length of time. We reserve the right to change and update Content and Entitlements without notice to you. Once you have redeemed your Entitlements, that content is not returnable, exchangeable, or refundable for other Entitlements or for cash, or other goods or services. "
Internet lawyers, feel free to say if the August version is better or worse, it sounds worse, but there is no time stamp expire clause... |

I am amazed Dead Island is selling that well.. aside from the ridiculous and amazing CGI Trailers, the actual gameplay videos looked pretty good at best.
Still a 5-10 dollar sale game for me, at this point. |

Hrm, Path of Exile looks very interesting. I had not heard of it at all before.
Like most, I was already waiting for Torchlight 2 and Grim Dawn, but I'll be keeping an eye out for Path of Exile as well, at this point.
Hopefully the PoE guys live up to their word, and the game is fully playable without any of the microtransaction crap. (Path of Exile is free to play, but with supposedly non-game breaking items for sale.)
I am also attempting to get into the Diablo 3 beta of course, to see if my sanity can survive the boycott I am leaning towards. |

Cautiously optimistic about CD Projekt getting to release Activision/Blizzard games... one should never get involved with these guys, but hopefully their anti-DRM stance will rub off a little, rather than the extremely pro-drm/control stance of Activision.
At the very least it should give CD Projekt some serious funds. |
