Killing Floor has excellent shooting mechanics, pretty fun gameplay, however the nature of scoring/grinding does not encourage teamplay at higher levels in my opinion. Even when everybody in the game is level 6, you will see people trying to shoot specials who they should NOT be touching, wasting ammo on garbage mobs, etc. That plus all of my friends who played this game abandoning it to other games has made me shelf Killing Floor for the past few months.
All that said, I have like 70-80 hours in Killing Floor easily, and hopefully this milestone encourages the Tripwire guys to make Killing Floor 2, I enjoyed KF a lot more than any of their Red Orchestra games. I can only tolerate so much WW2 and 'realism' before it just becomes a drag. |

Ugh. Consolized crap. Only one move per character per turn? No action point system? I have read elsewhere you can only have 4 characters at a time on a mission, which if true, is another blow to this being any sort of real X-Com game.
On the plus side, the indie scene is smoking along with about 5-6 different X-Com clones, so it isn't all bad.

Paranoid Jack wrote on Feb 9, 2012, 22:10: Ah, yeah! Why haven't they expanded on this franchise? I know they made money. I love the games but the robot mech suits kind of ruined it a bit. For the record, games by that same company, using various generations of the Silent Storm Engine:
Silent Storm Silent Storm: Sentinels Hammer and Sickle Nightwatch(available in the US) Daywatch(not available in the US? I can't find it)
Be forewarned, if you have 4gigs or more of RAM, and run Win7, you will have to fiddle with these games, due to Starforce DRM. It took a google search, a trip to game copyworld, and changing a value via hex editor to make them all run on my new comp. Walkthroughs of this procedure are available all over. Total time, like 10 minutes or less, depending on how bad you might rage at first.
More on topic: I pre-ordered JA:BiA... it's pretty fun, a few bad typos/translations aside.. JA2 fanatics are going to bitch and moan, but what can you do. JA:BiA reminds me more of Soldiers of Anarchy the more I play it, and less of JA2 or Silent Storm, etc. Real time with pausing, with well implemented order queues, militia members to outfit, mercs to train up, diamond mines to exploit in the name of more guns and mercs... it isn't a bad game.
As others have said, those DLCs are the preorder bonuses, which can be ignored really. A gun and a camo suit, which are nice at first but quickly outclassed, although they do look good. There was also a day one patch with some decent changes/fixes, hopefully they will continue to support/upgrade the game.

Having never heard of SMITE before, I thought:
"hrm, that looks pretty nice, let me track down the webpage. I hope it isn't.... oh no... ANOTHER FUCKING DoTA CLONE!!! Arrrgh!"
I'm looking forward to the time when that game type falls out of popularity with great eagerness. |

Hrm, surprise release, for 26 dollars, of a classic franchise. I'd buy this if I wasn't already in the midst of installing Jagged Alliance:BiA, and playing bargain bin Hammer and Sickle/Silent Storm:Sentinels.
Cannon Fodder was great back in the day, I wonder how many of the same developers, if any, worked on this one? |

"Range: 50 meters"
What the hell? They are limiting the range on the guns in that game? Garbage!
In all seriousness I hope that game turns out great, but I suspect it will be consolized bullshit. |

| Bleh, selling maps. I remember when that was considered sacrilege. Even DICE used to be of the opinion that they would never sell maps, and that was like a month before Back to Karkand. Game companies/publishers are just way too greedy these days. |

Dev wrote on Feb 2, 2012, 06:09: So, any comments from people who tried demo? I played the demo for a few hours, then loaded up JA2 from gog.com that I had bought for sale at some point and have barely touched until now. The graphics and merc names in JA2 had put me off of it before, but I'm going to try to play through it fully before JA:BiA is released.
The demo is enjoyable, but it's a far cry from JA2, to be honest. Some reworking of various systems are definitely going to infuriate JA2 lovers, that's all there is to it. Think of this as a separate game, and you will probably enjoy it a LOT more.
I am buying it, I am in the mood for some squad based shooting of random npcs in the face, Fog of War and Turn Based or no.
Try the demo, obviously. I browsed the forums for JA:BiA and it's packed with JA2 fanatics cursing out the developers. Depressing. The game is pretty fun, but yes, it is a different game. |

Well, Silent Storm was real time until you ran into enemies, at which point it went into Turn Based mode. But, you could force real time by cancelling out of TB mode, which was actually pretty useful if you wanted to run up and katana some people, for example.
JA:BiA(demo) seems to be more NWN2ish, or Soldiers of Anarachy-ish, than like Silent Storm, on further reflection. You have queues for actions, in terms of pause/issue multiple commands/unpause. I guess it's just the style of the camera, the firearms, and the viewing angles of characters/enemies that is making me think more of Silent Storm.
It's been a few years since I've last replayed Silent Storm, need to dust that off again pretty soon. Not to mention Soldiers of Anarchy...

Hrm, played the demo, this game is awesome. Going to buy it, although the price seems a bit steep for basically a remake.
Also, I know the original was turn based, but pause/command worked brilliantly in Silent Storm(one of my favorite games, all time) and other games, and based on the demo, it seems usable here as well.

One thing that seems to be getting missed in all of this, is that aside from the somewhat minor Scrolls, Patch 10(the latest beta patch) also removes 40% of the Shared Stash space. Patch 9, 5 tabs of available storage, Patch 10, only 3.
That IS major, and of course no Blizzard comments about it on the few threads bringing it up.
Companions will probably be back in some form or another, I used them like once in the beta. Reforging scrolls? Meh, not too worried about those, just bake some new items with the Blacksmith.
Losing that much storage space, probably to have it sold back later as some sort of paid feature? That REALLY sucks if it turns out that way at retail. |

Late 2011 Diablo 3 team: "We don't want players to have to leave the action, Nephalem Cube and Cauldron will allow people to salvage/sell items and barely leave combat!"
Early 2012 Diablo 3 team: "Yeah... we think going back to town is important now, breaking up the flow of action for no reason. Also, you should have to spend time channeling to identify each rare/unique. Because that's fun to stand still doing nothing. Also, let's make white items complete garbage by removing both the Mystic(who could have enchanted the 'superior' white items, and remove the Cube so they cannot be used for crafting in any way."
Basically this is a dramatic slow down of the game in general, and definitely a nerfing/serious slowdown of crafting as well, considering how much material it costs to make anything in the beta currently. None of these changes seem all that fun either... mind boggling decisions.
The secondary class bonuses for the new/old Str/Dex/Int/Vit stats are ridiculous also: Greater HP from Health Globes from Int? Really? Glad it took you 5+ years to think that up.
Also, they indicate they will have to basically re-itemize the entire game because of these changes, the rune system is still up in the air...2013 is not sounding too ridiculous, really.
I'd be mad, but this is just making it easier to avoid Diablo 3 now, and it'll make the D3 alternatives: Torchlight 2, Path of Exile, Grim Dawn, RAW look that much better. Now, if only those games looked like they weren't as slow in development as Diablo 3 is...

Dammit... another Diabloish/action-RPG thing that I'm going to have to play, assuming it isn't ruined by DRM or DLC nonsense.
So now we have:
Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, Torchlight 2, RAW:Realms of Ancient War, that steampunkish one I forget the name of, oh and of course Diablo 3.
What triggered the hack and slash bandwagon, the announcement of Diablo 3 a few years ago, or what? |

... still waiting for the 10 dollar or less sale, Game of the Year edition(all DLC included) for Skyrim.
I blame the flood of Indie bundles, steam/gog/Gamersgate sales... I still have like 20+ games to play.
