hrm, looks pretty good, but not great. Also includes the less than stellar voice work I've come to expect frmo Darkensang/Dark Eye games.

Still, I'll probably get it on sale at some point.

His point is that saying "DO THIS OR I WON'T BUY YOUR GAME!" is pretty meaningless. His incentive isn't one additional sale.
Saying "I think your game would work better if you did this" gets a better response out of him.

I got that; I found it hypocritical of him to keep bringing up the fact that he could quit at any time and get a real job if the game development becomes too tiresome. I know he's trying to get across "we'd like more constructive feedback" and "we love what we do."

I was also pointing out how ridiculous it is to expect all feedback to be rational, let alone constructive or helpful in any way. This is humanity we're talking about here.

I am not familiar with Vlambeer, or after looking at their webpage, any of their games, before today.

What exactly does this guy expect from random people on the internet? Of course they are going to say they won't buy your game, or want a refund. Those people probably deal with paragons of business ethics such as EA and Activision on a regular basis, of course they are used to companies treating them like a monetary resource.

He then goes on to basically threaten that he and his company can quit at any time and get real jobs, if they keep getting that sort of feedback. Hypocritical much?

In relation to the rest of the thread, I can only tolerate watching Yahtzee's videos, usually for games I will never play.

Hrm, looks good, I put some serious time into Warlock:Master of the Arcane, considering how little I paid for it. Yet another game to be put on the Steam wish list, which never really seems to decrease no matter how much I buy on sale.

Hrm, delayed PC port, probably with whatever replaces GFWL along with Rockstar Club or whatever it's called... waiting for the $9.99 or less sale.

Hrm, I'm looking forward to the DMR changes. Right now they are definitey the gimped weapon class, but with a little skill you can do pretty well with them. It'll be nice to utterly destroy servers with the DMR after the patch.

I am surprised they are buffing shotguns though... they already seem crazily strong, and easily 1 shot people at medium to close range.

News Comments > EA Taking Lessons From Launching BF4
21. Re: EA Taking Lessons From Launching BF4 Jan 29, 2014, 12:04 MoreLuckThanSkill

Ah, poor BF4. You're very playable now, but you were quite shitty on release, scaring most people away. Now, when you're finally ready, 85% of the players have already uninstalled.

The game is still a ton of fun, and it's gotten to the point where I don't crash at all. Kill trading with non-hitscan weapons doesn't bug me a great deal, just avoid servers with a ton of people with pings 280+ and it'll be fine.

*EDIT* My bad, RPGs do one shot kill attack and scout helos, unless the server or target is laggy as shit, and the hit fails to register as a direct hit(splash only). Confirmed after some testing.

I do hope they get their shit together, however history seems to be against Firefly Studios.

Wow, this is just getting out of control. Half of those games are alpha/beta or not even publicly playable.

That's not to say that they might not all get finished, it's the principle of the matter.

Looks pretty interesting, even if the Wraith powers seem crazily overpowered. Adding this to my "buy when it gets below 9 bucks or so" list.

Looks pretty good, although I don't think it'll be very fun to have your character realistically die from sepsis, the plague, etc. Or have any random fight lead to a crippling injury, or a slow death from blood loss because the chiurgeon decided to bleed you to get the demons out of your body.

Medieval games end up having magic to cover these gaps in actual fun. A zero magic RPG is just going to have bandages and crap that effectively are "magic" in terms of their healing ability. The rest of the game sounds great but attempted realism is usually a mistake in games, in my opinion. All things in moderation of course.

No vehicles, unless you count the bipodal mechs as vehicles. They are basically still a "player" just with different weapons/armor, much like the different alien bodies in terms of coding.

This game still feels like a missed opportunity to me, even after the patches. Something is just off. I have way more fun on random BF4 pubs, I hate to say.

*EDIT* grammar.

Ah, based on the previous positive posts(alliteration!), this is what all the talented developers are working on.

They certainly aren't working on the Diablo 3 expansion, the current beta is in shambles. It's embarrassing how bad some of the design decisions are at the moment.

Hrm, HD doesn't seem to have improved a whole lot. I did enjoy this on the PC, back when it was bargain bin, in spite of the control translation issues. No interest in spending 20 bucks on this though.

DayZ is going to be something people want, in about 2 years.

I wonder when/if people are going to stop suporting the Kickstarter/Greenlight/Alpha Release/Not a Real Game yet business model. Not anytime soon, apparently.

That said, I of course contributed to Grim Dawn and Project Eternity(Pillars of Eternity). Glass house -> stones.

GFWL needs to go, but not before I finish up Dark Souls! It still has GFWL attached.

Somehow I suspect the Dark Souls guys are not going to patch it out either.

Obviously the goal is also to get SteamOS to the point to where you don't have to reboot to play games, it's your main OS.

And that one is a looong way off. So many non-game apps would have to be fitted to Steam OS. For many I have to suspect what they read as a bottom line is "reboot for games only". And why am i rebooting, when today I don't need to at all and get everything. I'm not against it and maybe someday it will be a savior. Good luck, I'll use it when it make a lot of sense for me to do so.

SteamOS is currently still a linux distro, so most if not all linux apps (LibreOffice, Firefox, etc.) are already available. Of course it rarely pays to be an early adopter of any technology, if you're not willing to be a beta tester basically, now is not the time for you to be using SteamOS. I suspect Valve will throw enough people and money at this though, for it to be vastly improved a few years down the road.

Why is SteamOS needed?

I can't see myself ever going back to a time where I reboot to play a game, and I don't see Valve getting application developers to an extent that I can give up Windows entirely.

I can't say that it's necessary for everyone, but I would definitely like an alternative to Windows. They are already making Windows 9, apparently. MS has repeatedly shown a willingness to lock new versions of DirectX into new versions of windows, eventually forcing people to upgrade.

A SteamOS (or a decent Linux distro) with a DirectX alternative would be better for all of us, if only to give options to people who both own a computer and want to play games. Would SteamOS be less of a walled garden than what Microsoft apparently is aiming for? I don't know, but at least somebody is making an alternative. WINE doesn't count, currently OpenGL doesn't count either.

Obviously the goal is also to get SteamOS to the point to where you don't have to reboot to play games, it's your main OS.
