People think PB works because it tells you when it does something. VAC does its job quietly, which I much prefer. |

| Sweet! I can finally choose between something that mostly works and is always polite, or something that barely works at all and frequently breaks my games! This is a bold move and I fully support it. Maybe by giving players the chance to compare them side by side, they will finally realize how completely goddamn stupid and useless Failbuster is. |

The key phrase here is "provided the customer has a receipt."
I'm pretty sure the only people who still have the receipt for a DNF pre-order from more than a year ago are the ones who framed it. |

Jerykk wrote on Feb 24, 2011, 15:31: RPGs are about choice and consequence. If you choose to focus on certain stats over others, you must face the consequence of not being proficient in some areas. If you can respec, these consequences do not exist because you always just change your stats whenever needed. Except that respeccing usually comes with some kind of significant cost which pretty well represents the research/acquisitions concept I was talking about. Don't forget that RP stands for Role Playing; having your choices artificially restricted is not a reasonable consequence. The total inability of a character in a system without respecs to occasionally change direction to adapt to new situations is largely a limitation of abstraction, not a desirable trait. |

Jerykk wrote on Feb 24, 2011, 12:25: I'm all for no respec. It defeats the whole point of character development if you can change your stats at any time. You don't really know what character development is, do you? The idea that a character researching new topics in their field or buying new specialist equipment or whatever somehow harms the narrative is...
Well, I'm just thinking maybe you should get a copy of Urquhart's plaque. |

How does this game manage to have a serious "e-sport" community if it has no LAN capability?
Oh, right. People are stupid and will buy goddamn anything. *headsmack* |

| The hilarious thing here is that Tamte has basically screwed us all over with his misguided challenge. He's giving Kotick ideas: there is now a non-zero probability that he will make an online-only version of Black Ops available, and charge us a monthly for it in the process. He's been quoted several times as planning to do exactly that with this series, and Tamte has basically just stared him in the eyes and said "do it, faggot." |

Has the discount not actually been posted to the website yet? It looks like it's still the same price, to me.
Jerykk: preorders get a copy to give to a friend. I think it'll probably be cheaper after release. Kind of a weird model, but it makes sense since preorders are funding the development. |

"Some of you feel that this does some kind of injustice to your brothers in arms, so we're going to allow you to pretend it doesn't exist while still selling it to everyone else. We're doing this because we respect the fact (which we pulled out of our ass) that you can't handle things that make you upset as much as people who don't travel to foreign countries to get shot at for something they don't believe in."
Crossposting from slashdot, but you can't tell me it ain't true. |
