I dunno, my Internet worked fine Seems to work as it should. Only 1 US state taken out is hardly a loss of Internet for everyone

Of course you are.

And so are you, except you are doing it to ALL bluesnews posters

You should read "A Tale of Two Cities", by Charles Dickins.. it will expand your horizon.

When I read that comment, I thought, "She's overreaching. Those aren't really comparable." That being said, I think her list raises some good points in general. I don't disagree with most of these. I appreciated how the women soldiers were done in XCom:EU, just like the male soldiers. You're going to have your DoAs regardless.

- Avoid the Smurfette principle (don't have just one female character in an ensemble cast, let alone one whose personality is more or less "girl" or "woman.")
- "Lingerie is not armor" (Dress female characters as something other than sex objects.)
- Have female characters of various body types
- Don't over-emphasize female characters' rear ends, not any more than you would the average male character's.
- Include more female characters of color.
- Animate female characters to move the way normal women, soldiers or athletes would move.
- Record female character voiceover so that pain sounds painful, not orgasmic
- Include female enemies, but don't sexualize those enemies

I disagree with 2/4/8 And laugh at 3,5,6 (good luck with that...) kind of agree with 1,2,7 .. too little to say I agree with her though.

2) Since when is Sarkesian a fashion critique? Women (and men) can and should dress however the heck they want! In combat the dress should be mirrored in stats, but aside that.. MEH!
4) Overemphasize, I am thankful most games actually under-emphasize read-ends. With the obesity problems that's not even a good joke
7) What if you make a sexualized game? (close to censorship imo)
8) Censorship, include female enemies and sexualize them however the heck you want, do it for men too

Stuff like the 8th point still leave me convinced she secretly wants to censor things.

In front of each of these points should be "If possible, cost effective and acceptable to the creative vision of the creator" too.. especially 3,5,6 cost certain (small to large) amounts of money. It's sadly looking like she has no idea about game development for the most part.

It's not like this even does anything, eventually you just end up with antibiotic resistant pirates who you can spread out of control again.

I blame Angela Merkel.

That's what she's there for, but once you get into the nitty gritty of how government works you realize she is just a figure head. The entire system of politics is a charade anyway. I mean it's better than to have someone like Putin govern your country I guess ,)

In Germany specifically there is also the Index which bans sale entirely. But only within Germany. Owning something on the Index is perfectly legal

A good example on the dilemma is Agarest 2. It has a young elf girl that you can massage in a stupid minigame to raise her affection level (In the Console version) (Which is relevant for True "Good" Ending). In PC version of this game they removed that. If they hadn't, owning the game on Steam would actually be ILLEGAL in the EU. As in you could literally get sued for owning that game, by federal prosecutors or their equivalent.

Doesn't your first paragraph quoted above say it's perfectly legal to own such material? If only sale is banned, wouldn't it be the distributor that would get prosecuted?

You would think, but in fact the distributor would get a slap and you'd get a child porn charge. And I wish I was joking. ,/ There have been cases of this where the distributor said "We did not know what this is" and the buyer would go to jail for buying a manga in a store that he had the store "order" (worse than Jail, all hardware confiscated and never returned)

Also in case of Agarest 2 we'd be talking about potential child pornography (Even though there are no naked children in the uncensored japanese Agarest 2 console version) which is threat enough to force developers to censor themselves.

This entire German Index system stinks to high heavens. Because you can never be sure that something you buy is actually legal to own, despite it being legal to own things on the Index in general.

Normal sex stuff or porno is perfectly legal to buy and own (and doesn't usually get on the Index ;p), heck prostitution is legal and if you want you can run a sauna swinger club cafe. The law literally doesn't give a damn about it except that VERIFIED age checks are required.

We have a very weird situation in Germany where currently you can not be 100% sure what is legal, as our precious government changed the law regarding photography (which funnily also includes Manga) in such a way that it's not currently clear whether photos of your own children playing in a tiny swimming pool in the garden are not in fact illegal to possess. Define "easily"

Link obviously NSFW

(From reading the rules I don't think that link is forbidden ,p)

But no, in stores here you can only buy normal content, any AO content aka, USK18 is only traded "under the counter" aka, you ask, and they sell it to you if they have it

I have no idea how they got away with that on the consoles by the way

Wow, this game is unplayable on a GTX 970!

Just like Rome 2 on max settings btw...

Also interesting, GTX 970 loses over HALF the FPS when you reach the 3.5GB limit and basically continue using the current graphic thread after that, meaning you benchmark, and then play.. say goodbye to 50% of your performance. Wow.. that is an enormous bug.

It means if at any time in play your GTX 970 breaches the 3.5 GB limit your performance will go down and never recover until you restart the game.

What the ACTUAL fuck?

Psh, bite your tongue! There are ATI/AMD fanboys here...I know because I'm one of them. AMD might not be able to compete CPU-wise, but their videocards still give Team Green a run for their money, no doubt. I'm sure a lot of Radeon users would agree. My HD7850 easily stands up to today's games, even AC: Unity, with only some minor ticks down on the ol' graphics slider...

=-Rigs-=

My GTX580 is two years older and it still outperforms...

Mine is not quite as old, but still outperforms

http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-7850-vs-GeForce-GTX-670

And uses 90W less in the process.. per hour.. per day.. per year..
AMD builds GPU's with heating function... nice service for winter I guess...

Sounds like LucidLogix Virtu MVP

indeed. that was my first thought.

but 2 cards working on THE SAME FRAME? that sounds like a bridge too far. I'd love to see it work, but from what i know ATI and Nvid use very different architectures to achieve the performance relative to each other. It would seem like a real fustercluck to get them to be working on the same frame. does the CPU only spit out the geometry and z-buffer from the bottom half of the scene to one card? and have to re-calculate for the top half? I'd think that there would be a lot of unoptimized shit going on.

still a nifty idea. shows progress towards true parallelization, which to me is the real goal here. However i wouldn't bank on cross-vendor cards working on the same FRAME, that seems like a long bet. the %900 i'm still onboard with though, if a game was %900 more demanding on the CPU side of things using a CPU-optimized API that is...

They may be talking about VR related frame rendering, where technically you could very well render the same "frame" but 2 different viewpoints with different GPU's (but why?????)... and fix the bandwidth problem in 1 fell swoop (2 cards = 2 HDMI cables to VR goggles)

But even if this comes, still easier to just buy 2 identical cards if you really wanted this.. no?

Also, yeah, twin stick shooters don't appeal.

Can we atop with the non-gamer nonsense? She isn't an outsider invading your turf. You're taking an out of context quote from a video you didn't watch or read a transcript of.
I think what people really mean when they accuse her of being a non-gamer is that she's just using the fact that video games are the current moral panic du-jour as a vehicle for fame and career advancement. And yes she does cherry pick, she puts together a violence against women supercut knowing it will hit all the right emotional buttons in some people. She takes instances of bad things happening to women and removes them from any surrounding context to make it appear as though it's a representation of that game as a whole. She even goes so far as to claim that the mutilated corpses in Bioshock 2 were purposely arranged in an erotic fashion, because corpses are just so hot you know.

It isn't cherry picking! She is showing a series of tropes, and tropes either exist or do not. Showing that they exist isn't cherry picking. She doesn't need to put the context in because she isn't judging or condemning individual games, just showing the prevalence of tropes.

I can't fathom how you do that without "cherry picking." Do you show a random clip from a game and say whether or not the trope is in that clip?

How do you propose doing this without "cherry picking?"

How about not doing it at all? What does that even contribute to anything? I can show you staged scenes for any trope I want, and yet that does not prove a thing. All it does is incite pointless hate in people that loved the stuff I parody that way.

And sorry, but she is not showing natural scenes, she is showing staged scenes. Thus she is making a parody of something and not showing tropes, but how she staged scenes to show tropes

Of course that is cherry picking, and why exactly are you not angry about it? Wouldn't you call it cherry picking if I cut the 1 scene out of a movie, out of context and out of order together in such a way that a completely non existent trope seems to appear?

But when the cult leader does it you are ok with it? Why?

And her videos are art criticism, nothing else. Her own subjective view point about art. So it's absurd to say she is not "criticizing" these games, of course she is. That is what a critic does. Only she slapped a feminism and tropes moniker on and runs with it...

I just want to say, if she had took this approach in a proper intellectual art critic kind of way dismantling game by game, properly, thoroughly. Then I would have subscribed to her videos. Because no youtube channel is doing that right now.. just fyi

All aside, all she does lately is produce infinite amount of hate. Her cult and she as prime leader are exactly as vile and crappy as the hardcore GG crowd.

1 coin, 2 sides I guess.. but to me both sides are the same.
