Game rocks.

Melee gets much stronger later on.

Anyone can use the specialty arrows, you can make a real nice hybrid ranger. I do Ranger/Mage after having put about 40 hours into the beta pretty much just testing character combos...

Yep, I give Madora one point of Dex and then she can use a Bow and then depending on the situation, since this has terrain effects, you can't get in there safely melee wise, you can have her use Specialty Arrows like she's a mage.

The melee is fine if you can get in there. But there are ways to really crowd control mobs in this game and you don't want your melees in the middle of that shit storm.

Of course you do Witch spell +50% elemental res flips the resistance over from damage to healing when they are above 100%! I can have Madora stand in a flailing storm of fire and poison and she doesn't care. (and even gets healed by fire). It only lasts 2 turns, but 2 turns of healing in fire as opposed to damage is HUGE

I really like this game I am very much enjoying my real playthrough, finally out of Cyseal.. but I love the combat. It's so.. visceral

I've been playing through with my Knight/Ranger combo(Not the strongest pair, it seems), picked up a mage NPC, maybe a few hours into the game. I've yet to notice any major bugs, but there are definitely a few grammar/word errors in some of the conversation text. The Larian guys speak English as a second language, right? I wonder if they did in house localizations or something, or just didn't have time to fully proof-read all the conversations.

Aside from that, the vanilla quests seem good, engine is great, although I definitely need a runspeed mod or something, crossing the first town takes entirely too long on foot. Also, hopefully I find some portal stone or something at some point, the Waypoints are nice but I'd like to be able to teleport back from random spots to the Waypoint of my choice.

I definitely recommend this game for those people sitting on the fence.

Melee seems a bit weak, Rangers/Mages seem to rule early on. Hopefully my Knight improves a bit once he gets some more speed/action points and can start dishing out more hits.

I can't wait to see what the modders come up with.

I know I should have written down exactly where and when each grammar error was and emailed them in to Larian, but I didn't want to stop playing.

Go in the healer house in that town and you get access to not just teleport, but teleport devices, instant teleport to TP, and instant teleport to any other portal.... or do the main story quest and investigate the room at the bar

Don't skip the town, every building is relevant

As backer I still don't have access to my ks reward stuff though. Despite it saying kickstart edition. What a launch Oh well, I am up to level 4 now and they really improved the AI inbetween beta and this. It is actually pretty damn challening now

Ban On R18+ Games Under Consideration In Western Australia.

Australia is becoming a cliche of itself at this point. Gonna ban R-rated movies, porn, and explicit lyric music too? And I thought the morality police were bad up here in the states. I feel bad for you Aussies. Time to get political!

Someone in Australia should start the Technology party. Advocate all the sensible positions on tech, and you'll capture the youth vote pretty easily.

It would be probably be called a terrorist organization with the logic Australian gov is arguing lately

4K will eventually become the standard since eventually all hardware makers will only make that resolution. No one makes 320P CRTs anymore, for example. That being said, no one is clamoring for this. It'll be the standard in 10 years.

What about 8K TV? That's due in 2016, so why bother with 4k? And really why bother with either because the human eye can't even pick up the extra detail in either. Most people bought LED/LCD in the last 5 years so I can't imagine anyone in a rush to buy something they have no need for.

I would have thought you'd have to be sitting within about 4-5 feet to get any benefit, but apparently people notice the difference on a 55" screen from 9' away. Still, this is a very subtle difference. Certainly not to justify the expenditure for most people. If you bought a 300HP 'Vette a few years ago, and a 350HP model comes out, how many people will sell their current one and pick up the new one? That's how I think most people see it, esp with the lack of 4K content.

Also LED TVs will last a long, long time. People will replace with 4K as their TV in the bedroom dies, and they move the living room TV into the bedroom to replace it, buying a 4K TV for the living room. We're talking years and years down the road.

I am gonna go an a limb and say that OLED will come before 8k tv's and before 4k tv's are "adopted" (which honestly, they are NOT right now, not this year and not in 2015, there isn't even a media system in place for 4k content and that's gonna take at least 3 years to even get spread across the world).

If they honestly talk about 8k tv's right now then that is insane. That will NEVER get adopted in the next 5 years. And that's optimistic! Look how long it took to switch mostly everyone to digital tv signals. Heck, HD is out for YEARS and adoption of THAT in TV channel land (*here*) is abysmal.

And you know what business insider calls "rapid adoption"?

4K-capable TVs will be in 10% of all North American households by year-end 2018

That's in 4 years... 10% in 4 years isn't adoption of anything, that's a fringe segment of the market!

Well, considering that you can count the TV channels broadcasting in 1080p on one hand (here in Germany) why would you even need a 4k TV.

Well yeah, pretty much this

Generic mobile artstyle vs generic mobile artstyle.. oh noes

It would be fine if it was just the style, as the original artist said. It turns out it's the same map with the same items in the same places in the same style. That's the issue.

But it's not. They look vaguely similar. That's it. Certainly not enough to ever win anything in court. Boo hoo, someone is using the same generic video game art style that I used. I stole it first!

The map style is generic, but they're are absolutely elements he photocopied. Is it enough to win a lawsuit? Probably not. But it is clear he had one in front of him as he made the other.

Thing is, if he actually drew it from a inspiration source it is not stealing...

This is just a completely overblown story. I am artist you know, and even I would have a hard time saying this doesn't have some very stark similarities... the thing is, the style is generic, and even if some elements look ALIKE it would not be stealing. Nobody "owns" a style. And mountains with that form and lines and dots.. that is all not very unique and new... seen it a dozen times on DA

And this is NOT stealing artwork, because the supposed "fake" artwork looks BETTER ;p

Nothing that made the game design wise bad was fixed.... 1 ship, indirect trade, boring start, bad combat balance. And yes, the AI is still brain dead. And as Creston says, performance is REALLY bad.

I wonder if they get the spacehulk right this time around...

Not a fan of the complete lack of gore either but I am guessing this isn't in-game as much as it is an in-engine sequence to test stuff.

That was me. I still think it's one of the best shooters ever but it's unfortunately attached the worst matchmaking systems ever and a non-existent server browser. I think the only hope now for a decent shooter will be the new UT considering BF4 was garbage, BFH beta was garbage, and the new COD is just Crysis of Duty.
If only they allowed molding some fan could come up with a superior match making service.

There's plenty of mold on their match making service, no need to further moldify it (sorry..)

Mantle is open source?

Link to code depository please

By the way, what AMD doesn't get is that stuff like Gameworks is a HUGE boon to developers (which is why they sign these contracts). Nvidia provides insanely advanced tools if you join gameworks that nobody else even codes, or if alternatives are available, they are infinitely inferior.

TressFX (Tomb Raider as a whole) ran like SHIT on nvidia cards and glitched out half of the time... so maybe AMD may want to check their own actions before bashing nvidia for doing the same.

I still remember that Tomb Raider didn't even RENDER for me until way later when nvidia brought out a driver to fix that. And AMD somehow thinks they can throw with stones? hah

They didn't yet rule secret warrants as illegal though, so yeah... one of the major things Snowden told us is that secret courts can make secret yet legal warrants with 0 oversight or control as to their validity.

And with national security letters you can prevent anyone from even TALKING about them too. Smells like fascism.

haha, good joke ... Homeworld 3.. BF2142 sequel.... the list goes on.

you dont think its going to happen? pretty clueless

homeworld is no longer a running series

BF2142 was a 1-off fluke.. bad company already has 2 games in series

You said if people want to buy it it's going to be made, but this is 100% untrue. I would have bought PoE and D:OS if it had released, instead I had to crowdfund it, because NOBODY WAS MAKING IT, despite loads of people willing to buy it.

Companies like EA do not ever do what their (related game) community wants. They do a market analysis and if it doesn't project to sell 5m copies they are not making it, even if 2.99m would have bought it had it been made.

That AMD story has a neat jab by Intel

We have publicly asked them to share the spec with us several times as part of examination of potential ways to improve APIs and increase efficiencies. At this point though we believe that DirectX 12 and ongoing work with other industry bodies and OS vendors will address the issues that game developers have noted."

Translation: Intel asked, but got nothing from AMD... that's one way to kill an API

Uh...no...;)

On the contrary, Intel was assured by AMD that they could have it when it gets out of beta and hits the 1.x version. *Right now* AMD is not letting anyone have it, except their partners during the beta-testing period. When it hits 1.0 it'll be open to anyone.

Technically I am still right Intel got nothing except promises ;p (And yes, I read the article for once to make that jab)

How long is AMD gonna wait around anyway? DX 12 is only coming closer, and it's gonna run everywhere by default, not just with catalyst drivers and gcn... assuming DX12 will come for Windows 7.... (yea yeah, probably an empty hope ,p)

On BF4 I could say "fun" to maybe about 3 maps...
