Mhh, I did not know that. I expected when Obama got all this coverage for his Obamacare.. the comments meant something like Healthcare Insurance we have here in Germany. Or is it really the case that Germany got the best healthcare system in the world? I mean the system here is pretty.. well, expensive (in a sense, you can call it a sort of income tax) but nobody here is ever financially ruined because he fell ill. Though it will definitely be a financially drain on you if you end up requiring 10 different prescriptions that are non-standard (ie, not under coverage) and you end up requiring the social security payments (they are relatively low).

Mhh, this makes me realize that you Americans must have misunderstand my rant then. To me, going to work with flu is a CHOICE you have to MAKE. It is not something you *have* to do or that someone can force you to do. But if you are not insured for the lost income then... wow that is retarded. How come there is no rebellion yet?

I still hate all humans hehe, but at lest I can understand why you go to work with flu now.

For your understanding, if you have a real flu (not a cold, an actual proper flu) any doctor in Germany will give you a week off from work. This is also why Germany tends not to have large epidemics... at some point people get worried and go to a doctor who blanket takes them off work. But if you are signed out by a doctor you should really take that serious, and not make a vacation, throw parties or dance naked on your balcony, you can get fired for that ;p

By the way, there are some rules to that insurance obviously.. but I am not entirely sure what they are.. I never was sick for longer than a week. Only once, but that was before my working (or freelancing) days... ^^

God damn, I hate humans. (And as I learned from reading stuff by psychologists, that's normal)

There is such a negative stigma associated with sick leave in the US that most people don't take it unless they're dying. No one wants to deal with that.

For me, that's been the culture at NetGain, Halliburton, and General Electric. Having worked in those places for a collective 12 years, that culture has carried over to my work at Wizards of the Coast. Even though this company isn't like that, I find myself writing this from my desk at while plagued with the flu.

Just to get something right, you have health insurance I assume? does it not take pay the wage you lost for a set amount of sick-days? Because this is quite literally why employers here usually don't have to go to work with a flu, though they'll have to see a doctor to get .. what you call it, proof?

If your sick days are not paid by your insurance.. then one wonders wtf you are having insurance for, honestly. Because health insurance shouldn't just cover medical stuff, obviously being ill has an economic effect that it has to cover as well, or you just end up being punished for being ill.

News Comments > Path of Exile Open Beta This Month
14. Re: Path of Exile Open Beta This Month Jan 10, 2013, 13:20 eRe4s3r

So if you played the game beta 4 5 questions

1) Are quests (are there quests?) you take instanced for you (and your group? are there groups? What size limit), or are they public property and so there is a large queue standing in front of a boss spawn?

2) How is PvP handled, can I choose not to partake, or can a high level dude walk into the newb areas of another race and kill everyone.

3) Random levels... how is that handled? Or has it the same problem as Diablo 3.. that is after a while you can see the "tells" of the "random" generator and so know instantly where everything is. Are overland maps random?

4) How is in-game communication handled... mail system? Is there an auction house and bank system? How does trade work (sorry, but what you wrote makes no sense to me... gold less trade?

5) Good story? AI companions?

These are the main things for me that nobody here ever explains properly. To me the primary factor of enjoyment (same for Diablo 3) is whether I can choose to play solo. I don't mind if it's online all that much, but if I don't want to be social on a day, does this game force me to be or not?

Are we also going to fine all the bosses who FORCE their people to come in even though said people are sick to their bones? Trust me, few people CHOOSE to go into work when they're sick. The ones who do do so because their boss has told them to come to work or get fired.

Creston

Well obviously I wouldn't fine people who are forced.. their bosses are so stupid that it does not even require a fine... sick employees are unproductive and cost more than if they stayed home a long week (realistically, that is the time you need to get over a flu). I won't quote studies here, but at least here in Germany you are not forced to go to work if you are sick..

Well these don't even have head-tracking, so I am surprised you even survive 10 minutes ,p I can't enjoy fake 3D vision at all, I get nearly instant headaches. But sim sickness is not funny at all, imagine not feeling so good, except it involves throwing up and not being able to walk straight. This effect is like being hit by a train. It is drastic, and you can believe me it is not something you will ever want to experience more than once... I tested one of these formula car simulators at an EXPO and learned my lesson there (they warned me though ,p).

Until I see someone who knows what he's talking about actually testing these goggles on real games (especially driving games) I won't buy into the hype. Sim sickness is real and well known problem of heads-up displays , and there is no way Oculus Rift solved a problem the most advanced research labs on the planet haven't solved (yet). As the valve developer wrote, it is a purely tech problem related to input/output delays. It's worse when the view is moved by an external element but you are not (ie, a car driving in a sim). That's also where the name comes from... the most famous dude who has severe sim sickness is Michael Schumacher.. he could never use the simulator his team used, likely because he was such a good driver, the slightest mismatch of simulated physics vs what he saw vs what he expected to feel and he got sick.

In America, we are working everyone to death.

Quite literally at that...

Most sane companies have strict rules on flu here, it is not good for productivity if you infect your entire office level of 300 people.

Note that the comments from Valve's Michael Abrash talked about simulator sickness, this is not something you feel unless you have interactive gameplay that extends for a certain amount of time. It is different for everyone, but "short time" is not enough, we talk hours. 1 or 2 hours and then it starts. It can go up to migraine attacks. For most, it's just a sort of vertigo.

I hope they figure out a way for this tech not to cause simulator sickness, because I want VR headsets.. but not if they make you sick.

The funny thing is that the article isn't even so far off (it just got cause and effect inverse ;p).. because the people not caring for others are basically what caused this flu "epidemic". When they go outside with a flu, coughing in everyone's face and office then they are worse than narcissistic, they are ignorant idiots who don't give a shit about anyone.

I mean I could live with humans that just "pretend" they give a shit.. I am not expecting them to care about me personally.. but at least in general they should have some passing feeling of responsibility to the greater good, to society! I was taught that when I have a flu, not go outside, not invite anyone, just live it out and don't infect anyone (that's harder than it sounds in a family) but you can do it.

But people nowadays just don't give a shit anymore. And that's how these stupid epidemics all start.

Sigh.. the greatest achievement of our intellect, is that we hate our own race and can reason logically why everyone should too. Yay us!

So this is a Diablo MMO basically, right? not interested

Why would I want to grind in a persistent free to play game that only offers the same gameplay as any other Diablo clone? Or does this game offer something incredible super awesome that wasn't done before?

Full immersion with distortions Unless you build a half spherical screen where your eyes are in all directions the same distance to the screen distortion will occur. For half spherical displays you also have the problem that nearly no game supports the FOV settings you need for that.

Still if we talk about immersion. I would love to have a domed huge screen. but not a curved one...

Yeah, that'll work out just fine

Remember how the past 30 years the industry did everything it could to get straight lines on a display? Only thing good is OLEDS getting on market.. but not with a POS product like this... sigh

Hehe, interesting typo there http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NPD

Personally, I expected all NPC's to get random personalities and roles based on NPD meaning Narcissistic personality disorder.. but it seems this is not what this mod does

For that they'd have to build a new engine since crap physics and crap animations is what you get with the "Real Virtuality engine" Arma 1/2/3/Take On*** uses.

So this is not something DayZ can ever hope to fix.

But when it comes to dialog, consequences, and choices in how to approach a mission Alpha Protocol was great. I never could get over how stupid as hell the combat in that game was, but anything else was fine. And it had great writing.

Yeah but how many (good) new games are going to use or support Steam Linux? I just don't see it taking off this year.. but hey, they are getting close given how much MS seems to be willing to mess Windows gaming up.
