low FOV haters?

Can I buy this logic in a jar? Low FOV motion sickness is a medical issue, not a damned choice! If you don't suffer from it you are not having the setup required to suffer from it (large screen, less than arm length distance).

If you don't agree with scientific facts (and that is the case for the FOV and what is optimal at what distance : screensize : aspect) then nobody can help you. But we are not even hating low fov, we are hating on companies deadlocking it with bullshit excuses....

Q: What are your plans for widescreen in BioShock Infinite?

Chris Kline: We’ve done a lot of work for BioShock Infinite to support a wide range of display setups and resolutions, so I’m confident you’ll have a great full-screen play experience when it is released.

more 65 degree FOV I'm guessing, someone will probably release a tool to set it higher but why can't they just add this to games ported to the PC.
Because 65 degrees is intentional? I don't know why everyone assumes it's a technical limitation when it's sometimes done for artistic reasons.

FOV is never artistic, it is a biological necessity to have it adaptable as we have no doubt mentioned nearly 560000 times by now.

Even on console people sit closer or further away from a screen of size X, and size and distance decide what fov is REQUIRED. A locked FOV is like you would put a magnifying glass in front of you head and leave it there forever.. that's not how human eyes work (or can work)

Well as I said later part of why I stopped playing is that it was boring and the various other things I don't like, like interupt of skill attacks (Gothic 3 did that.....) ,p

46. Re: SimCity: Details on Player Region Limits and Color-Blindness Mode Jan 26, 2013, 09:52 eRe4s3r

I would think that a certain amount of gamers on this site don't care at all about EA or UBI or whatever nonsense people can get worked up nowadays. We want good games. If I have to kill 50 virgins to get a good game or walk through the Gobi desert with a psychopathic EA hater that skins executives with a spoon made of teeth to get a good game, I don't care. I would do it because I want good games. And if the devil himself was the publisher, I don't care, as long as it's a pretty damned good game!

And for the record. I haven't played any good game yet this year except Euro Truck Simulator 2, and that's not even a joke. As far as truck driving sims go this one is pretty damn epic. And even FUN and realistic. So... I am hardcore gamer and the only game I find of passing interest this year so far is a damned lorry driving sim....

Of most newer games I get bored within the hour.. which is why I only play them at friends and never buy the crap. Unless someone gifts me a copy as is the case with D3.. (oh boy, that was a fun gift ,p)

Ehm, so the tangent is this. What I see of Sim City 5 so far makes me want to play it. And that's a feeling I haven't got for a lot of games recently. Dead Space 3 maybe, but aside that, I haven't even got a urge to play because everything is the same recycled crap. You have to look long and hard to find any decent game so far. But meh, the year only just started eh...

I am actually more interested in SC5 because they did so many things different and new. I don't want a "better SC4" .. I want a great new fresh game!

Also is there a reason the comment counter next to a news blurb doesn't update anymore? Or is it on my end?

Why would anyone write anything positive, apart from "hope it's gonna be good" ? I will go at it with an open mind but until I actually get to play it, I can't exactly say "zis guys are totally wrong".. I have the game pre-ordered for a hugely awesome deal at GMG and that is my stake in this, I actually paid 60% less for it than for games I genuinely hated just 2 hours after buying, so already I don't hate it ;p. So whatever, in this case I don't care for online only, If they do it right, online connected city building could be pretty damn awesome. I play RPG's offline, but I haven't ever seen a good online city builder so why not, I certainly hated Sim City 4 more than I liked it, (Commuters? Whats that!)... anyway, point being, all people got right now is to bash what they can judge is there, and yeah... what's there is not exactly inspiring....

By the way, the 1h per city beta they host, is exactly to test server performance to make sure everything works on launch, 1 hour limitation is to force people to play to the region max and see how the multi region performance and interaction works in a high load situation.

Point being, don't read these threads before the game is actually playable, because until then nobody is gonna post opinions about proven facts. Because there are none.

Heck the 1hour beta only just started. And I didn't get a key.. whatever

I admire them doing something like that for color blind people. And there the admiration stops.

Seriously, EVERY game (video games and board games) should have allowances made for color blind. Its over 10% of the male population. Most of the time its fairly simple too. Like on board games, ticket to ride is a very well designed game for color blind. The tracks and cards have symbols on them. This is something that doesn't impede non-color blind play and most of them miss that each symbol is different for a different color.
And if tweaks to a video game is as simple as offering an optional transform button in the configuration that doesn't impede non colorblind play, why the heck don't more games offer it?

No, I'm not colorblind, but I've seen how things look from the view of those that are.

Battlefield 3 has a colorblind mode that changed the color of the player markers. I used it even though I'm not color blind because it made the symbols pop more and they were way easier to see than the regular ones.

I am using that too and totally agree. All games should be REQUIRED to have a colorblind mode.

Wha.. portals.. lol Diablo 2 taught me never to try opening portals in boss fights. I guess I should throw that overboard.. but I still don't like it much. Either starting phase is extremely dull or the game simply has no effect on me. I am actually bored, and I am only very rarely bored in a hack'n slash. I love the back-story but... I don't wanna play the game for it.. hmhhmhm

My main gripes are that it's too much zoomed in, even at the max distance, and the inventory. I don't understand why it has to be so goddamn small.

Other than that I'm enjoying the game. I've never seen an ARPG where I felt more involved in the quests and story than this one, and that says alot because this one is nothing to write home about. But how multiple NPC's in a town recognize your accomplishment of a single quest completion is something new, and I like it. Why should only Person A recognize I killed this monster who made everyone's life miserable and not Person B and C as well? Good touch right there.

I also love the potion system. It has a special kinda dynamic of its own. I think it's really well balanced.

Last but not least... those chained women at my health and mana orbs, wow. Gotta trigger every straight guy's imagination.

The potion system has a pretty big and stupid flaw though. You can't stock up on health once you ran out of it in a boss fight. I guess it is a design choice, but if you used those 4 health and 1 mana you are completely done for. I played up to the boss medusa thing, got her down to half health but here stupid freeze attack... anyway, after that I quit and never intend to come back. The potion system works great against mobs, but if there is only 1 extremely strong enemy you are essentially rolling a dice before the battle even starts. With the random misses (hate that too) and that enemies can interupt a skill attack costing you mana ... not the game for me sadly.

(And yeah, I guess stocking up on stronger healing is a solution to tackle the boss, but that requires grinding, a lot of grinding.

Good thing being colorblind requires you to have a constant internet connection.

I gladly take always online when all my regions are constantly updated and simulated (as in, they commute, properly). It was the main, fatal, game breaking flaw of Sim City 4. It was what made me completely stop playing it, because there is no point to make more than 1 large region. As soon as you zone out of it, and play in Region 2, everything is just a statistical value that affects statistics. Nothing is actually simulated in SC4 as soon as you exit a region. The world-view is just a dead empty husk. Pretty picture, 0 substance.

Anyhow, for me Sim City 2000 was the best ^^ and everything after that was.. mediocre. Sim City 4 just looked pretty, but it did as many things wrong as it did right.

What's the chance of a decent game experience by doing a public random party game from level 1 onward in this? Also what's the ping like for Europeans?

I am actually waiting a day to get all these beta guys out of my view The further they are from my first game experience the better it will be. And the higher imo, the chance to find a decent guy or gal to do a bit of relaxed coop gaming in this...

Is offline only, 7 hours long, has 4 ships.. 2 different main weapons, bunch of secondaries and well, 13 missions I guess, very tight controls, arcade space-flight combat shooter game.. gotta ask yourself whether that's worth the price for you. And it has no real plot.

Does nothing new, but what it does, it does somewhat well. Looks pretty, things blow up pretty.

Also, you have no choice in what ship to fly when. Just mentioning that in case you thought you had the choice between 4 ships The gundam mode is pretty cool, you charge it up with kills (it drains energy very fast when active) anyhow.. played worse things.. played better things. ^^

Every time I hear it now (that I know what it is) I am getting more and more pissed off about it.

I was very disappointed when Wilhelm, in Borderlands 2, doesn't die with a Wilhelm scream.

The ONE time when it would have been awesomely appropriate, and they fuck it up!

Creston

Worse is that that would have been the 1 proper use of the trope, and indeed, they fucked it up. That was where I wanted to hear it and I got nuthing, but it turns out I get to hear it everywhere anyway, everywhere where it doesn't fit, that is!

For me, Wilhelm scream (if used badly) is instant immersion break ;/ Of course if you got a guy named Wilhelm not screaming like Wilhelm.. I guess that is a trope subversion, and we noticed it. So it must have been intended. I guess there are Kudos for Borderlands 2 in order for not doing Wilhelm Scream for a character named Wilhelm. Maybe they wanted to allude to the fact that the FX is never appropriate?

Every time I hear it now (that I know what it is) I am getting more and more pissed off about it. This is not "subverting a trope" dear CGI movie makers, this is "beating the trope to death with a dead horse that was beaten to death with a horrible scream sound fx"

So on that note. What a terrible intro, Wilhelm scream was in it. 0/10 bla bla.. not gonna buy it

Everytime I hear it a movie instantly turns into a comedy for me. I can't help it. This is one of the dumbest immersion breakers in movies, it's in many light hearted movies where it fits. But then it's also in creepy immersive trailers like THIS ONE? Wow.. ;p Yes, it is totally unimportant thing, 1 sound effect in the whole thing, but it is how it is. I am starting to develop a real hate for that (misuse) of the trope.

Makes it a comedy with cheap scares.

Which is exactly what Deadspace 3 COOP , based on the COOP footage on youtube, is. Mission a success, I would say, for destroying the last bit of immersion. ^^

As I said, based on steam and forum activity ^^ I would be very surprised if they had more than 10k

But on the other hand, i don't really care. What I hear about this game makes me not want to even try it, even if its free.

Seems to me active users are around 5000 to 10000

Based on steam stats, and their forum activity. Also they seem to be in the process of locking down world 5 and is the usual pay to win, win to pay kind of f2p concept. (Hence people being less than amused about world lock-downs)

I think the main problem is how the engine handles interiors, and you know it's not gonna be improved. Look at the footage so far, how many interior and object interactions with the world are you seeing? And the animations in the E3 footage still looked as terrible as in Operation Flashpoint. The original one.
