News Comments > Diablo III Auction Houses Shutting Down Next Year

Very smart move by Blizzard, implementing some sort of secure point to point trade system is the way to go with ARPGs.

Blizzard is smart when it comes to finding ways to create tons of cash. And that's where Blizzard's smartness ends. Attempting to reverse the damage done a year after the D III release isn't smart, instead it is "damage management" such as:

trying to win back disgruntled, lost customers
admitting that the AH is a failure (took them a year, so smart)
pretending they care about and listen to their customers
admitting that the AH can be removed and replaced by something else
giving the false impression of being smart
...

Here's how I see it:
It is a wise decision by other developers/publishers NOT to screw (up) their games/gamers by adding auction houses in the 1st place.

My recommendation to Blizzard: Do things as you did with Diablo I, or just go away and die. Thanks.

As is mine - because I don't have a console

Played all of them back in the days and had a blast. Old school, challenging hardcore RPGs. VI and VII were way harder than VIII. My recommendation: Get the bundle and take a year off from work

I want this game, I really do, but somehow I have a bad feeling about it. But this can't go wrong, can it? Anyway, waiting to spend my money on release day.

The more stretch goals involved (due to over-funding) the more things can go wrong. Quite a few over-funded projects on KS have collapsed. And Star Citizen is a great example of "waaaaaay over-funded". It's wise to spend the money on release day. Just my 5c.

The first and most important step to limit their power is to cut off their money supply. That can only be done by going back to a commodity-backed currency.

Unfortunately, this can't be achieved by voting, it requires a revolution (which isn't going to happen because, as long as beer, burgers and TVs are cheap people couldn't care less...)

Um, no. Blizzard managed to "fool" millions just once - to accomplish their goal (which is sitting on a mountain of cash). They will gladly accept all the shame and cash you throw at them in the first place. They don't have to fool you twice. And in five to ten years, when they release their next Diablo, all the shame will be long forgotten and people will again be ready to throw cash (and shame) in Blizzards direction.

Sounds to me like you're gonna have to learn how to code.

Even though this would be the best choice I don't think it's necessary. Europe's (e.g.) got talent and in the PRISM/UPSA era the motivation to dump US internet giants has grown significantly. I frequent German IT forums and pretty much everybody there hates the US govt./NSA/PRISM etc.

Non-American browser alternatives will pop up on the web sooner or later.

"US businesses stand to lose up to $35B as a result of PRISM."

That's a presumed revenue loss of 20 percent due to PRISM.

In my view only a complete collapse of all American cloud services would have been proper punishment for the existence of PRISM.

If that is legal, then that is one hell of a "WTF" law the us got there. Might as well stop pretending and rename to United Corporations of America... because that ain't in the textbook; how legal systems are supposed to work....

Not surprised. There some other things that are perfectly legal in the UPSA. E.g. go to Walmart, get a semi-automatic gun, and start a blood-bath (well, the blood-bath isn't legal, but since you can kill yourself afterwards, who cares?).

"PRISM revelations result in lost business for US cloud companies."

I haven't used much of this cloud crap before anyway, and now, thanks to Mr. Snowden, the sky has cleared completely for me. Dropping gmail as my main email provider requires some effort but is in process. Never even got anywhere near creating an account at upload-all-your-life-thankyou Facebook.

Ignore Trollin Thunder. When Bushco was doing much worse he was right there cheerleading and obviously anyone who questioned their might and wisdom were traitors and terrorists themselves. Like every conservative they're actually terrified of real freedom.

The scary thing is that people like Hayden honestly see people like Snowden, and not what they're doing, as the problem. You've massively overstepped your authority, you walk roughshod all over the Constitution, you're empowered by a secret court that no one can challenge, and never once has any citizen even been asked if they're ok with it. Obama's "We have to make some choices as a society" implies that there's been a choice to begin with.

As long as the people don't hit the streets to protest, everything is "just fine". ...
