quote HardOCP:

We can't help but feel that Mass Effect 3 has suffered a serious case of the "consolitis." From the anemic menu system, to the clumsy controls and the shockingly sparse in-game graphics menu, and even to the utter lack of support for graphics features more advanced than those found in Windows XP, there is simply nothing about this game to speak to any manner of PC gaming heritage. PC gaming is something that BioWare has been known for. Its reputation and prestige among PC gamers has been slipping lately, most obviously starting with Dragon Age 2. Perhaps it was a bit naive on our parts, but we really hoped for better with Mass Effect 3. In spite of reception problems with the game's endings, It is a masterwork of science fiction writing and design, but it falls flatly away from what PC gamers want in a game.

The good news is, you won't need to invest much in a video card to play it. The bad news is, there are probably not many PC gamers who will feel that the game's tech is worth upgrading for. The silver lining on that black cloud is that most gamers won't need to upgrade a thing to play it.

I lol'd. No hardcore PC game would get anywhere near that console-turd anyway...

Muahaha. Imagine this: pc gamers kickstarted a project, and with enough money, the developers would decide to got the way of big money, i.e. consoles. I would be laughing my head off for hours.

Imagined. I also imagined that such a massive slap in the PC gamer's face would happen only ONCE.

I'm sure it will surpass $1.5 million eventually. I've never played the original Wasteland (my first RPG on PC was SSI's Star Command in '89) but from what I've read Wasteland was groundbreaking and HARDCORE

Pledged $75. I really want this to happen (check) and I want it to be good (pending). I like the goodies bundled with $75, and I like how they bypass a fucking publisher with its fucking DRM. Besides, Fargo is an old-schooler and I'm confident he'll approach this project with the right attitude.

Wow.

You'd have to be a complete idiot not to pick up Deus Ex Human Revolution and DX: The Missing Link on Steam, if you don't have them already.

$10.19 and $5.09, respectively.

^D^

I didn't have DE:HR. And I'm not a complete idiot
Great game so far! I'm sure those 10 bucks are well spent.

Zero interest. [...] Apparently System Shock and Deus Ex are the only two "Sci-Fi RPG series" that have successfully grabbed me.

that's the point. I've bought ME1 on Steam for $5 a couple of years ago, never played it though. ME3 could have the potential of becoming a System Shock 2-like Coop-MP experience, and this is what I'm after.

I always knew I'd buy the Torchlight 2 version. English language supported.

I doubt that will be possible.

id consider that a very naive statement

me too. In fact, because of its DRM, I believe D3 is going to be the most pirated game ever. And it would serve you right Blizzard.

Never played Oblivion and honestly anything is better than the consolised piece of shit that the default UI is. I have had the game since day one and only put about a hour into it because I was fighting the UI more than mobs.

Did anyone force you to buy the game on day 1? Did you not know that Skyrim was primarily designed for consoles? Headscratch

made for consoles, optimized for consoles, demoed on consoles, .... consoles, .... consoles, .... consoles, .... consoles, .... consoles .........

as long as consolitis is allowed to spread this won't stop. The maximum price I'll ever pay for a game that has "XBox Controllers" and other related crap in its supported input devices (apparently this game doesn't even support a mouse) will be $5.

If you can complain about the graphics in this game then you have no soul.

so they call this "ultra", and that.... lowest quality textures I've seen in a long time.

I guess I have no soul then indeed.

The UI is a nightmare. Certain keys control multiple functions - for example, the same key that's used for sheathing/readying a weapon is used to drop items from your inventory. Unfortunately, if you change this key, they help dialogs and the key reminders at the bottom left of the screen don't update! They still list what the action is according to default keymapping, so you have to look at what the function was originally assigned to by looking at the manual, then finding out what you assigned it to. Problem is that the manual doesn't say that one key controls several functions like sheathe and drop - you have to figure that out for yourself. This is a complete fail and demands a patch to fix the inconsistency. I can't believe they shipped the game with the UI in this state. Sure, it's a bad design, but beyond that, it's BROKEN!

Kastagir wrote on Nov 12, 2011, 01:54:
I suppose it's no accident that the gameplay settings have the 360 controller enabled by default.

too much consolitis leftovers for me. Gonna wait until the mod community has transformed it into a (much more beautiful - those low-res textures make me throw up...) PC game. By then it hopefully is $5 or less!

You think expansions should be free? What planet are you from?

If their purpose is to make the game better - yes it should be free, because we're dealing with an update, not an expansion.
If their purpose is to add content - no.
