Doubtful. I believe this is simply to drive people towards their console products and will mark their exit from the PC as a platform.

I don't quite get how that whole scheme makes sense.

I have no facts to back this up, but I think that if Spiderweb Software would put their catalogue on Steam, and offer it up for 5 bucks a piece, they would make a lot more than that 111K.

My biggest problem with their games has always been that they're very expensive. And yes, I know they're a lot cheaper than normal 50 buck games, but they just seem to be expensive for what you get, for some reason.

I'd buy every one of his games for 5 bucks a pop. I might even buy a few at ten bucks a pop.

Creston

I know what you mean. $28 new/$25 "old" is a bit much, especially considering how many there are.

There's a good reason you cant use your DLC in the expansion. The original was crazy easy with all of your armor and weapons buffs on everything. The game designers quite rightly make you go in naked or you would sail thru the expansion, regardless of difficulty level.

DA has a few problems that need fixing, but the biggest one is how 2 mages standing at the back can spam AOE spells and kill everything in 2 hits. Hope they seriously dealt with that in the expansion.

First, nothing in the DLC is that overpowered. Second, the stuff from the Return to Ostagar DLC does transfer, and that stuff is pretty much the same power as the Warden's Keep gear. It seems more to me like when they made the original DLC it was built in a way that it ended up not being compatible and they decided to go with "it can't be transferred" rather than going through the process of updating it.

The thing that really bugs me is that you can't bring DLC stuff into the expansion (except that last DLC I think). I didn't really pay too much attention to the expansion information, so I only found out when I imported my character and in the opening of the expansion she had no armor except for her helmet and only an offhand weapon.

It comes up because people are tired of EA switching off the servers or having the master server explode at 7pm, relax. It might not make it better but they're just venting, perfectly understandable in this situation where you have a great game but the publisher is hurting the MP.

This never would've happened if they had also made a Wii port.

Didn't know about the ping thing. I did find the long server browser refresh times annoying. One thing I did notice though was that the game performance goes to shit if I bring up the scoreboard in-game and it takes 5-15 seconds before the framerate goes above 1 FPS again.

Yeah, the $28 for newer games/$25 for older games pricing is what keeps me away.

Countless baseball games back in the day you could pitch one every couple hundred games...

Something tells me they have code that doesn't allow you to pitch a perfect game. Wouldn't be tough. 9th inning, everyone gets a hit no matter what.

I looked at the rules for it after seeing a commercial about it. I think that is what will make it so hard. You have to record the whole thing, from before you even turn the console on. You can't pause the game, or take more than 60 seconds between pitches. You have a limited selection of pitchers to use on any given day you attempt this. It's kinda ridiculous.

Yeah, if you look at the article, every Western game listed is available on a console. That is what's happening to JRPGs.

Oh...yay. That's exactly what the Western market needs, more snore inducing grindfests with pseudo-furry characters, 12 year old kids with 10 foot tall hair and 32 foot long swords and a game story that always consists of "you're a humble farmer/peasant/lower class denizen who has been divinely marked for a world changing destiny".

To be fair, Aion went for the somewhat more Western "You used to be powerful/important but then you lost your memories because of magic/nearly dying/dying." setup.

We’ve got some very ambitious plans with DLC – our first pack is coming up in a matter of weeks. We’ll also have title updates coming up because once the game’s out there, we’ll need to get feedback from the people who are playing it, and if need be make a few adjustments and tweaks.

Our team are already prototyping all sorts of stuff to be released as DLC and we’re really excited about it. It’s a really different type of market now; I remember five or six years ago, you’d get a game, finish it, put it back on the shelf and that was it. But now it’s almost as though the game’s release is just the beginning, really. Ours is a game that lends itself very well to expansion – there will be weapons packs, map packs – all sorts of things we can do to get our product out there.

These guys really deliver.

Has anybody ever really delivered?

Just how is he killing pc gaming Briktal?

CT does more for pc gaming than most Developers do, he’s very committed to pc gaming and trying to keep it alive. Just because someone makes a game for the console to does not mean he’s killing the pc gaming market. It’s called trying to make money in a tight economy so he can keep his company alive and self supported. He’s not owned by EA or any of the other big publishers. He is self sustained. Your accusation is completely unfounded and is your biased opinion.

I'm a bad person. I shouldn't have done that.

I dunno, I like RTS games but I hate playing them. Well, same with 4x games too, except they are easier to play. I'm not really good at multitasking and playing a high paced min/max way.

I don't know if I can take any new game from Chris "Killing PC Gaming" Taylor seriously.

The Advocate wrote on Feb 12, 2010, 13:09:
From a financial standpoint alone, how would you justify the manhours and expenses involved to make those small sections, which are completely optional and not required to progress in or complete the game, accessible to that small of a demographic? Note I said "financial standpoint", not PR or because a good friend or even that Blue is colorblind in that spectrum.

I can see investing the money in to it if the majority of the main game play was heavily color based and reliant on color pattern matching. However, in this case, it is not.

I think the biggest thing about issues like these is that they are often pretty easy to avoid, and sometimes even useful for non-colorblind people too. Many can be fixed by just adding something beyond color, like a shape or a pattern or a certain positioning. Others can be fixed by letting the player choose the colors for certain elements (like player names in a FPS game). Of course, when devs seem to not want to bother to implement some rather basic options these days, it doesn't seem to likely they'd implement that kind of option either.

I really liked the game, but I still hope they expand the story a bit. I know I'm in the minority here, but I still feel like I did a quickie origin story, then I grabbed the required friendly factions, and did an end battle.

It's strange, too, because Mass Effect 2, though a different style of game, feels somewhat similar: find out why you're special, go grab your teammates, and then go kill the bad person.

I guess I just want to see more factions with competing interests and more ambiguous choices - the "good" and "bad" choices still seem really obvious in these games. Although I can understand the argument of them being pointless, I would like to see more quests unrelated to the main story line. It's a lot of the little things adding character to the game that flesh it out for me and make it seem more realistic and less linear/scripted.
Duncan had some impact, but I never felt a part of the Grey Wardens.
Having dealt with combat like I would in WOW (tank, healer, and rest as ranged,)
Ray

I think a big part of it is just knowing what the end game (roughly) is. Basically from the end of the intro section, you know what you will be doing for most of the rest of the game (get allies, kill the archdemon), though the Landsmeet stuff tries to break it up. Mass Effect 2 is similar (get a team, do the suicide mission), with a different method of breaking it up. Mass Effect went for more of a twist to break it up. Bioware's been doing stuff like that for a while I guess.

A lot of the older games were more about figuring out what the hell was going on, exploring, investigating, finding a trail that leads you towards the end game. Also, I think they had more interesting side areas. Maybe with games being fully voiced they don't want to spend the money putting in major NPCs and even party members that half or more of the players will never run across. Of course, those games can also be a bit harder to get into, say if you like knowing what you are supposed to do and roughly how to do it.

Probably.....defiantly.

Just seem like the story could continue, without Shepard. Maybe not, does it really have to be a Specter now, I mean since there are humans on the council and they can build these ships now, so couldn't a new PC with a different story take over?

I gathered they designed this universe to continue for many, many games and yes I did realize this story was a trilogy, it just never said (at least I saw) it was Shepard's trilogy.

I think they actually did say it was Shepard's trilogy. Maybe when talking about the importing, maybe it was talking about other games in the ME universe after ME3, I'm not sure. But I'm pretty sure they said those words before.

Why are they dumb? Because games like this and in general console games, cater to dumb. Partially this is because of the crappy controller and partly becasue many console gamers are very casual and don't want to have to think. Therefore they should be watching movies, not pretending they care or are interested in gaming.

They have dollars, therefore someone wants to take their dollars. Game companies have been lead to believe, they can have gamers merge with movie goers and everyone will be one big happy family (on prozac?).

So game developers are willing to sacrifice creative quality, for mind numbing inane design, to get insane profits.

That's not what I meant. Have you ever played any of the HL2 episodes or Portal with the commentary? There are a number of sections that basically go like this: "Originally in this room was <really simple puzzle> but half our playtesters just ran in circles for an hour so we <removed it/heavily changed it/added a billion hints>." I'm saying they didn't add the hints like "use incinerate on armor" to make the game seem more complex, but because a lot of people who might play the game would likely never figure that out without being told all the time. Hell, people have enough trouble picking the roles even slightly reasonably in the final mission.
