More like rabid internet contrarian but whatever, thanks for sharing with us your uplay experience. I think I'll go with the documented evidence pointing the other way though, ciao!

Sigh... It's really frustrating when hive minds can't handle hearing individual experience and opinion. All they want is their perspective on the world regurgitated. Everything else must be a lie.

I could believe it in other games, but not FO3, sorry. Not at launch. In fact, I'm fairly certain that when the last time this was discussed, someone went back in your post history and found threads where you detailed problems with FO3 you yourself had despite your claims. It was pretty much proven to me at that point you just like being a contrarian. If someone says "up", you say "down". I loved FO3, despite it not being everyone's favorite, but it has nothing to do with saying whatever is socially acceptable.

Feel free to actually prove your accusations but I suspect you're thinking of someone else or making shit up.

I can't recall any serious issues with Bethesda games outside of one patch for Fallout 3 that made it start crashing a bit, but it was a later one, 1.5 I think. I don't think people are lying when they call Bethesda games bug-filled messes, I just think their experience is more in a minority than they think it is, or have less well-kept computers.

I have no reason to lie, it amuses me people here think I do.

Does the "offline mode" work-around not work 100%?

If it does, this isn't always-on DRM. If there's a button saying "I don't want your DRM to be on", then it's not always-on DRM. It may still be shitty, which is why I'm on the fence about buying it (especially as it's not on Steam, which I quite like), just not always-on.

I haven't played Far Cry 3 yet but I attached about 8 games to the Uplay client and played some games through it. It seemed to work exactly the same as Steam, there is an offline mode and every game (even previously always online ones) launched through offline mode with the internet unplugged.

I like you SV but after your claim some time ago that you didn't have a single pre-patch issue with Fallout 3 I take any claim from you of this nature with an ocean's worth of salt.

Well I didn't. Should I lie and pretend I did? I'm not sure what the socially acceptable thing to do is here I guess.

Fucking Fallout 3! It's always... crashing! Or something!

Not even slightly surprised to see you saying that in a thread detailing how to get around documented Uplay issues

...okay?

Am I a rabid DRM hater this week or a rabid DRM defender? I forget which agenda I supposedly have sometimes.

It's about the only legit reason I can think of to pirate a game.

Abandonware is pretty legit IMO. Games like Westwood's Blade Runner will never be sold officially again due to licensing hell. We either make them available via piracy or they fade into nothing.

Yeah, the problem is Steam enforces the German version (or a lack thereof) despite the fact it's not illegal to own the games or even sell them, just to market them. I understand that as a digital platform they have to worry about where selling ends and marketing begins, but it's a shitty situation.

In the end having no German version at all likely means Steam will block all activations from Germany, which means piracy will be the only option for Germans.

You could always VPN using a European IP address and still download from Steam from a US server. That's what is happening to me now. I'm in Afghanistan, the ISP is satellite to Germany, and my Steam shows up in English, but with Deutsche marks as the currency. Oh, and I'm loading it up now. Granted, it's slow as hell and the war may be over before I get all of it. =)

Strange, I am stationed in Georgia as a volunteer but when I load Steam with my account I get the US store with US prices.

That seems to be most of the complaints I saw fixed. Good stuff. I'll buy it in a Steam sale someday for the new levels and then compare versions myself.

AAA titles are dead in the PC world.

Exclusives yes, but many games sell plenty enough to justify porting. We will get AAA ports for a long time to come.

It's exceedingly amusing how these debates always come down to free market libertarianism versus outright socialism. As with most things in life the truth is in the middle, but passionate debaters tend not to realize that.

Clinton-esque social democracy for the win.

And this is what I've been saying here for a long time, the next gen of consoles more than likely will be pretty underwhelming all around. If the 6670 rumor is true then the next generation of consoles may bury the gaming industry instead of saving it.

I have the opposite opinion. If the next gen of consoles has a major spec bump it'll be the end of the industry due to astronomical production costs. Innovation will stagnate due to the dangers of a single failed game collapsing a studio. PC gaming won't take over either, that ship has sailed.

Indeed. If they are smart they will triple the RAM and make modest improvements elsewhere but keep the tech largely the same, focusing on smoothing the experience rather than jumping way ahead.

The focus should be on rebuilding their online architecture so they can support Steam-like distribution, free-to-play and streaming. That's where the money and mainstream support is. Advancing graphics a large amount for so-called "hardcore gamers" would massively increase budgets without any significant increase in sales.

Yeah. I stopped playing a few hours in and moved on to other games for mostly the same reason. I do plan to go back, but it was insanely frustrating. I know Rockstar like to pretend they make movies but at least with GTA it's a short snippet before a long mission. In Max Payne 3 it's just a constant back and forth.

I've only played Ass Creed 2, because I was interested in the The Ship style multiplayer. However, the mouse control rendered it unplayable - has this improved? I'm not sure what exactly the problem was, possibly horrible acceleration.

I had this same problem, mouse control was pretty much unusable in AC2 for me. It was odd since AC1 had very good mouse controls.

People have told me AC2 was fine with a mouse though, so maybe you and I had a glitch. In any case I played it and Brotherhood with a pad and they play fine that way.

If they still do FOV on this engine vertically or whatever then 90 is like 140 in old-school terms, so it's quite high. Last CoD I played, Black Ops, I felt it was comfortable at 60 or so.

It was good, but it needed some design tweaking. On one hand, rolling evoked some motion sickness in me (not much, but it was a puke-machine for some other folks), and I might actually try to do a blur/depth of field effect or something so that while you still get the concept of motion, the entire world isn't crystal clear with your eyes trying to juxtapose that movement with your stationary inner ear.

I'll never understand why people want these camera-mimicking effects in first-person games meant to simulate vision. When I look around in real life I do not see motion blur or depth of field the way games mimic them, plus when I quickly move the mouse or focus on one area of the screen my eyes naturally add those effects realistically, there is no need for games to simulate them.

It's probably my number one pet peeve of the last 5 years or so. Blur and depth of field are the first things I turn off when a game allows me to do so, unless the depth of field is used really well and in the distance like The Witcher 2.

One of my favorite games this "generation," I honestly wouldn't change a damn thing about it.

I hope they don't change it much for a sequel, but I am sure they will.

Thanks for the feedback folks. It sounds to me like the game doesn't really add to the franchise and that even though the game isn't horrible and I would only be out 6 bucks, my time could probably be better used on something else.

It is one of the things I love about the new XCOM game...it holds up very well to my rose-tinted memories of the original game. The comments here do not give me confidence that my experience with Syndicate would be the same.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the original and is nothing like it. It's just a name on the box though, that matters little to whether the game is worthwhile or not.

Anyway, if you don't like average shooters then I would agree it's not worth the time.
