I wish I "got" the love for Witcher 3. The story was great but I found the actual quests so boring. Just go to the marker on the map over and over. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it.

Isn't "go to the marker on the map over and over" pretty much every RPG ever?

No? The best ones have deeper quest design than that. Again maybe I wasn't in the right mood and I only played 10ish hours, but to me it felt like an Assassin's Creed style interactive movie. It didn't have the quest design, choices, etc. of something like Fallout New Vegas, for example.

Escalations aren't missions, just short little challenges that take place in the existing missions.

Anyway played this game for 200 hours but I think I'm finally done. The resort came out and I played it a few times and realized I was pretty bored of the formula, so time to uninstall. Great game though, highly recommended.

I dislike global pricing being taken advantage of, because then publishers will just try and kill it somehow (or kill third-party keys) and that helps no one. It's a good thing for potato land to get cheaper games, and people in steak land shouldn't try to screw that up to save a dime IMO.

Ubisoft making all third-party keys launch Uplay immediately for verification is probably where everything's headed, which will put places like G2A out of business.

Halo was never good on PC. Nobody's gonna pirate that tired-ass shit.

Other than the crappy console HUD the first one was pretty great actually, and people still play the online today. The sequel was crap though. If they port these well though, I'm sure many will be very interested. Don't be a spoilsport.

The only actual Epic Game Store exclusive is Fortnite on PC.

"Fortnite gets a boost from Season 9 but is still far off from its peak. Fortnite made $203 million across console, PC and mobile, up significantly from April but down 38% from May 2018. Console continues to contribute the largest share of players and revenue."

So that fad is coming to an inevitable end and with it Epic's ability to lock down exclusives. They should be focusing all the Fortnite cash on making their platform as good as if not better than Steam.

Almost 2 years of been the most profitable/popular game on the planet? That's some 'fad' :P

Perhaps you missed the part where it read "but down 38% from May 2018." A 38% drop isn't trivial. If Epic were a publicly traded company, a 38% drop from a previous year would cause investors to sell off shares, especially considering Fortnite is Epic's golden cash cow and primary source of profitable income.

They are absolutely in a race to get the Epic Store turned into a real competitor before their money bag runs out. Their client improvements seem to be coming too slow for how fast Fortnite might be fading, but they've got a ways to go yet.

I have a feeling Borderlands 3 will make or break their chances. Not only how well it sells compared to 2, but also how much more casual players hate the client they're forced to use (if they hate it).

I know these were published by Sony originally but I'd be hesitant to assume we'll be getting a bunch more. Quantic Dream recently sold to some Chinese company I believe, so this could be a special case where that company paid to get the rights back to their catalog or something like that.

Free for two days looks kind of weak when a certain other store is giving away big games permanently, but nice to have a Grim Dawn demo to try out I guess. Not a super fan of Diablo stuff but I do like the look of it.

Couldn't care less about which client I'd have to use, but hearing it's secretly an MMO or at least very online focused game is a bummer. I don't blame companies for going that route, it's where all the hype and attention is lately, but I'm just not interested.

Yeah, Gothic was great but they've never quite gotten there again. Elex is pretty good too, but not Gothic good. Risen was meh. Dunno if this is a good or bad thing.

The first Risen is pretty good. Better than Gothic in some ways, worse in others, but pretty darn good. The Risen sequels plummeted in quality though.

Haven't played Elex yet.

You should care. Rewarding anti-consumer companies is bad for all of us. It's like saying you don't care you pollute.

If a game forcing me to use a specific client is "anti-consumer behavior" I shouldn't support then I never would have bought any Steam games.

As a singleplayer only guy who runs Steam in offline mode with the in-game interface off, I literally couldn't care less what store I buy games from. Some nice deals here, especially on Outward and some pre-orders I was looking at. Will do some research. Very nice that the $10 off comes from Epic and not the devs/pubs.

This one was pretty linear if I recall correctly. The franchise got much better with 3, which was more open world.

No issues with slow menus here, and the tutorials stop relatively quickly other than for new powers/weapons. Also I don't think the animations are long at all for picking up chests and stuff. You just click E on them and then can walk away, you get all the stuff without standing there waiting.

Review copies were supplied by Steam. They did it that way to prevent pre-release release, or is it premature release.

Ah, good call. Hopefully they patch it out then, and hopefully it doesn't take a year like with Dishonored 2.

It doesn't have Denuvo on the Bethesda launcher supposedly, so that's probably why. God knows why they used it on Steam alone.

Why anyone is comparing this to Anthem or Borderlands I have NO idea. I just played 3 hours of it and it's Far Cry, basically. Singleplayer focused, not loot-driven at all. These comparisons are crazy.

It's pretty solid. Has a little day one jank but nothing too bad. Default keybinds are terrible but everything can be changed. Depth of field is HORRIBLE, make sure you turn it off or it's blur city everywhere. Gunplay is solid, gameplay is good. Recommended if you like Far Cry type games and want one in this setting.

With something like Borderlands 3 and the lacking online features on the EGS, I get the hate. But I don't see why this matters? It'll be on Uplay, and Steam was always just a silly launcher for Uplay with Ubisoft games anyway. Just buy this on Uplay and there's literally zero difference except for also having to have Steam running, but it not really doing anything.
