Neither, its 'sarcasm'. There really isn't any debate about the fact that you can still play 3.5 whenever you want.

My point exactly. No one ever suggested that, and it's totally irrelevant.

You are putting forth a false statement in representation of our stated opinion, then refuting the false statement. That's a Straw Man argument. It's illogical and fallacious, and successfully derailed the original conversation, so you probably have a grand future in politics and/or marketing.

And now back to the topic at hand...

Wow guys, I didn't know that WotC forced you all to burn your 3.5 rulebooks and banned you from playing 3.5 ever again. That would make me mad to.

Wait...I can never keep this straight...is that a Straw Man argument, or Ad Hominem?

If nothing else, it looks you like you have to buy in nice round numbers...

...yet Steam games are never priced that way.

So either you buy exactly 100 games to break even (that's a lot of games, really) or they get free money. I mean, come on...you don't think they take the buy in money and put it in an account just for you, do you? No, they mark down an IOU and take your cash and mark it down on your tab.

Think about it - they make money on every game they sell. If you pay them ahead of time, they make that money, plus whatever you can't get at because of the rounding thing, and they get it NOW, rather than when you get around to spending it on the next Steam sale.

It's sort of brilliant, as long as people are dumb enough. Betting on people being dumb is pretty safe, really.

I don't get these digital downloads. Without a cd you have to always be on the net to play the game. Secondly how do you get a manual? Not so sure the is the best way to distribute games imo.

Okay...NOW you have my attention.

I'd seen it on Steam, and thought "meh, adventure game" but now I'll have to at least give it another look.

Awww, so I've been lying to people for the past week when I tell them that Valve hired him?

I just thought it was inevitable so it wouldn't hurt to embellish a bit.
I seem to remember some interview or blog a week ago where he said they just wanted to chew the fat with him, I got the impression that valve has money coming out their ears.

Uh, the guys who set up Valve are dudes who retired from MS at like 30 with more money they knew what to do with...so they started Valve and made even MORE money.

So, yes, they have a lot of money...but that's not exactly a new development. Valve is just a hobby for them.

Sure, sure... it just seems like I read the sentence "waiting on a Steam sale" constantly lately.

I say it all the time...for reasons 1-4.

I can't recall the last time I bought a PC game in a box...and my list of purchased and yet-to-be-played games stretches back to the Steam Xmas sales, so I am starting to cut pretty close to the bone before I'll buy another game. But if it's on sale on Steam for a massive discount, I'll buy it in anticipation of finding the time to play sometime next decade.

Big surprise one is that valve is being purchased by EA.
Big surprise two is the size of Gabe Newell will achieve from millions of donuts that he can now purchase after the selling Valve. (no offense: humans come in different shapes and sizes).
Big surprise three is steam is being renamed EA Download Service.

Okay, that crosses the line firmly into NOT FUNNY.

I'm gonna have nightmares, now.

"What Do Game Developers Know About Real Guns?"

Typically, two things...jack and squat...though, honestly, they tend to know twice as much as TV and movie people.

Twice of nothing is still nothing, though.

(Obviously, there are a few exceptions...can't think of any in recent history, though. The old Red Storm games, BE5, and a vanishing minority of others.)

That would because you're not driven entirely by avarice.

EA would rather catch the goose that laid the golden egg...then squeeze the everloving @#$% out of it in hopes that MORE eggs will pop out.

Well, seeing as how EA wants them to churn out a game every year (Preferably a new Mass Effect AND a new Dragon Age game each year), they have to do SOMETHING to speed shit up.

Taking 3 and 7 years to build a game doesn't go over well at EA. Yearly franchises, dammit!

Creston

Yeah, I recently saw a DA2 ad while passing a game store, and actually said (out loud) "Already? WTF? That can't be a good sign."

Games are getting to be like movies, where I almost hope my favorites DON'T have sequels, because some marketing wonk will likely just @#$% the whole thing up.

*sigh*

I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

DA was a huge success for the PC - but publishers want to push their console agenda. Any game that does better on the PC than consoles is, in their warped view, broken.

I mean, seriously, you can just read between the lines - now that DA is an established property, they KNOW that they can totally screw the PC gamers over and try to draw everyone into the consoles for the sequel, where their profit margin is much higher.

@#$% em. If they gut this game, so be it. Won't get my money. Should have read the writing on the wall when they started making it so much easier so that the mouth-breathers wouldn't have to feel bad by playing on EASY. No, instead, NORMAL is the new EASY - push the button, get the pellet.

I mean, this is the same outfit that neutered Mass Effect 2 - just more of the same vile marketing tactics.
