Considering they're charging $59.99 for it, I held off on getting it. Now I'm glad I did.

I'll wait until it's on sale on Steam for $7.50.

Just did that for the first one. Was going to get it for the PS3, but Steam sale was too good to pass up.

For single player games, anymore, I generally wait for the price to drop...it's getting ridiculous.

Am I the only one who sees the "kill switch" as the same thing as me going home and packing all my valuables into a wheeled suitcase and putting it by the front door to protect myself from burglars?

Rather than a bunch of independent, potentially vulnerable sites, we'd have one big red button with half the hackers on the planet wondering what happens if they push it...

...next thing you know, Justin Long is crying over "Fire Sales" and I'm killing a helicopter with a police car and getting my ass kicked by Maggie Q.

On second thought, I might be on board with this plan. *Grin*

2. Re: Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator Patch Jan 25, 2011, 12:33 JoeNapalm

I wonder if this is doable over Vent?

EDIT: It is, according to the faq!

Q: Why can't my crew play over the internet, using some voice chat software?

A: I always wanted the players to be in one room together, just like a spaceship bridge. I want the captain to be able to push the helmsman aside and shout "Full power, DAMN you!!!"
BUT, as a veteran game developer, I recognize that players play my game the way THEY like, not the way I like. V1.1 has optimized network code, and a server option that lets you adjust the network update speed, so you should be able to play across the internet just fine.

See, now when you put it that way, it just sounds...

...yeah, there's no way to make that sound good.

Copying the style is one thing, but "fun" relies on the gameplay which Evil Genius got very wrong. I'd be afraid to get this without a demo or many positive comments (on RPS or Blues).

I enjoyed the base-building elements of Evil Genius immensely...but I would agree that the minion mission map structure was tedious, at best.

If this reviews well, or (*gasp!*) had a demo, I'd be interested in adding it to my lengthy queue of games I'll eventually get around to playing.

1) Raise the difficulty to Very Hard.
2) Play on Hardcore mode.
3) Download mods that make the game harder.

I did all three. Makes for a much more challenging and interesting experience.

I...probably should have thought of that.

Dead Money was utter tripe so the lack of it on the PC ended up saving me money. I think my post-release FO:NV lovefest I probably would have just bought it without thinking. Anyway still enjoying another Vegas playthrough but I hope they get their act together on the DLC.

I must be ADD, or something. I got about 2/3rds of the way through this back when it was released, and just haven't felt the urge to play it, since.

Maybe it's due to my own actions - I raided an irradiated Vault fairly early into my gameplay, and have been armed to the teeth ever since. Maybe I made it too easy on myself?

Or maybe it's because I'm trying to play a hero, but I don't really LIKE any of the factions, so I'd just as soon shoot everyone and let the coyotes sort 'em out...

*sigh*

Or...it could be that I had my fill of FO3, even though I liked the first one.

I dunno, I refuse to feel guilty - plenty of games still DEMAND my attention, so I can't be bothered with those that I merely feel like I SHOULD play.

That said, it's John Smedley. No one listens to him, anyway.

John? If you're reading this? Go work on Planetside 2, and don't screw it up.

Ah, yes, but if you don't want your character to be utterly dead, deleted, and the entire server reformatted due to griefers, lag, power outtages, solar flares, cat on the keyboard, or your wife asking you a question at precisely the wrong time, then, sir, you are not H4RDC0|23 enough for this game.

Odd, I like to watch those Minecraft vids but I have not the slightest interest to play the game itself.

This. I love seeing what people come up with and I wish there was a way to use those kinds of things in a game against other players. That million flaming arrows flying at you, how cool would something like that be in a war game inside the minecraft engine. I really want that game to become a castle seige game, where people devise the most elaborate defenses possible and then gamers try and rush the castle with catapults, trebs, bombs, digging tunnels, everything. The whole world is destructable, so lets blow the shit out of everything and have some fun! What is the point of building so much if you can't try and blow it all up!

"Google Android More Vulnerable Than IPhone, Antivirus Maker Says."

Allow me to translate:

A company that makes money selling AV software says that one Linux-based device is more vulnerable to viruses than another Linux-based device because it is open-source.

Just ignore that Linux-based devices are not vulnerable to viruses and give them money.

*rolls eyes*

Yes, if you INSTALL something on your Android phone that does something bad, including agreeing to give it permissions that it should not have, then it can do bad things. This is NOT a virus - this is the user being careless and installing malware.

Not all malware are viruses. Viruses "infect" computers - Linux-based systems (including Android and iPhones) cannot be infected...they can only be compromised by users agreeing to install bad things.

EDIT: The iPhone App market checks each app to see that it's playing nice before they post it. The Android App market posts anything and relies on the user to actually READ what permissions the app wants and decide if they want to grant them.

So, based on that, you could argue that iPhone is a safer platform simply because it takes some of the control away from the end-user who might not make the right decisions.

Either way, AV software is sort of like putting wheels on a boat.

The Android AV software I've seen simply checks the software vs a known list of bad programs, with a few other features such as locating lost/stolen phones and such thrown in to entice people who know they don't really need AV apps.

It's a catch 22, Dok.

MMO players decry the monotony of WoW clone after WoW clone...then flip out when they get in an MMO and some aspect of it isn't exactly like WoW.

I hear you, though - I'd be interested in maybe paying for an MMO that wasn't more like a second job than a form of entertainment.

Not familiar with this - will have to check the Googles for his "Complete" of which you speak. I grabbed the expansion on sale, but I think I'm going to replay the original from the beginning, soon.

Only mod I used was one that let me pay to repair my gear. (I suppose that might be considered lame, but it made the difference between "awesome fun game" and "pain in the ass" so I'll own it.)

EDIT: Just read up on this mod. Sounds epic. Thanks, Prez!

"so safe that viruses barely exists"

What a load of horse shit. Did Apple write this piece of trash?

Care to enlighten us on when an OS X box has ever been hit by a virus? You know...in the wild, without requiring the user to enter the admin password for the box to install it?

Linux, and by extension OS X and Android, aren't impervious to malware...but it does require the user to consent to install it. "Barely" might actually overstate the risk.

Though I'll agree the article is rubbish...recommending installing MS Office!? $200 for an app that DOES create vulnerabilities to MS Office exploits, when you can get a better, more secure, app for free with NeoOffice.
