The original was flawed but, for a time, brilliant.

Please be awesome.

Thank you.

News Comments > Scrolls Will Launch Minecraft Style

I gone in on a couple of games this way:

Mount & Blade, and Minecraft.

I got more than my money's worth out of both.

People often decry this method, but both Mojang and Tale Worlds started as ONE MAN shops. One dude.

I don't know about you, but I couldn't afford to develop an entire game out of my own pocket.

If supporting good Indy games - rapidly becoming the last bastion of PC gaming - requires that I occasionally pay less to support an incomplete project in the hopes that it sees the light of day...well, I'm pretty comfortable with that.

Sounds like the way I play. I've rarely continued playing an MMO past the first month but during that initial month I'm playing it all day everyday.

That's like going through the trouble of installing a toilet in your house and then continuing to shit on the carpet.

I'm usually pretty good with analogies, but I admit...that one I don't get.

Damnit, Jaguar. I've lost a few hours to the demo for Space Pirates and Zombies, and it's still in Beta. That one could end up swallowing a lot of my time; it reminds me in ways of Space Rangers 2.

So...that's either really really good, or really really bad.

Because Space Rangers 2 is one of my most conflicted gaming experiences, ever.

When it was good, it was like playing a game version of Firefly...and when it was bad - well, it was pretty bad.

I still don't understand the bitching about this game being unstable. The only time I've ever had a crash was when I installed a buggy mod. The game was fine after I disabled it.

What's not to understand?

Just because it's stable for you doesn't mean it is stable for everyone.

Part of the challenge of writing good PC code is the diverse install base. One of the many reasons there's always been a push toward consoles - cheaper to test a game for a single known set of components.

So you don't like this style of bonus, and that's fine. But personally, I'd prefer decorational memorabilia like this over in-game items that coerce the customer into preordering to avoid disadvantages.

Or a weapon or armor that is better than anything you'll ever find in-game, thus eliminating any enjoyment of finding cool gear on your own.

It goes both ways hypocrites.

So, since there are bad ports of PC games to Xbox...PC gamers who don't like bad ports are hypocrites?

Seeing as hypocrisy is acting like you believe something you really don't, I fail to see how a bad port makes people who don't like bad ports hypocrites.

That is, unless you're trying to say that people who believe that consoles are ruining PC gaming are hypocrites because PC gaming is ruining console gaming...

...because that would also not make one bit of sense.

If this has a 3rd-person cover system and regenerating health, I'm selling all of my computers.

All.

I'll move to a cave, somewhere, and meditate on little houses with mailboxes out front, and the Amulet of Yendor.

I really don't get the bitching over this. I mean, yeah, early on without having any info, it was easy to conjure up doomsday scenarios. But look at the facts:

1) You don't have to have another client running constantly, so you don't have to worry about having "dozens" of clients going. Once you've downloaded the game, you never (if you don't want to) have to run Origins again.
2) You can still get the game from a non-Origins source if you prefer a physical media.

Now you can still say stuff like "it won't go on sale", but where's the rationale for that? Yes, EA doesn't have to compete with other digital distributors, but they still have to compete with all the other MMOs out there. While it's possible they'll never have the game go on sale, that'd be foolish from a competition standpoint, and I suspect EA has enough business knowledge to realize that.

Now I haven't really looked into Origins that extensively, so if it turns out that you've got a download limit, or install limit or something like that with SWTOR through them, then I can see a valid complaint. Barring that, it just seems like a lot of people who aren't going to like anything that EA does just because it's EA doing it.

I don't get why you don't get why people don't like this.

Physical media is largely a thing of the past for many people. I, for one, can't recall the last time I bought a game in a box.

EA's digital distro service, in the past, was awful. Even if Origin is better, I don't like EA, and would prefer to do business with Steam.

EA is doing this simply to try to get a slice of the Steam pie, and based on EA's prior track record, I'm betting their service will NOT be something I want to be involved with.

I'm not basing my decision on "EA hate" but on EA's prior performance. You imply that people not being enthused about anything EA does is somehow irrational or unfair - but EA earned that.

Agreed - very NOT WoW MMORPG.

I had a lot of fun with it for a couple of months.

I think my capacity to play an MMO for years has gone the way of the dodo...I figured if I get a few months out of one, it is pretty good, on my scale.

Actually, in all honesty, if I get enough enjoyment out of it during my free month to justify the cost of the game purchase, I figure they did okay.

Not to belittle RIFTs success, but 1 out of 20 people from a seven year-old game that, by most accounts, you've basically replicated almost verbatim...that hardly qualifies as a "bite".

Maybe a nibble.

I whole heartedly agree! Blizzard should have utilized the SVGA supporting engine created for Diablo II in 2000 to create Diablos III through X without (hopefully) changing core gameplay very much through the last 10 years. After all, it sold well so clearly it was good enough. We could very well be anticipating the latest chapter in the Diablo saga right now, Diablo XI: Dungeon NYC, if it weren't for Blizzard's short sightedness and lazy programmers. Oh i hope it has launch day paid DLC consisting of hats!

Hats? Hats?! HATS!!!

Where's my credit card?
