Of course you can't change your secret question/answer in the account settings. There's no notification of this stuff in battle.net when I login either and they didn't even push a notification to switch passwords.

Looks like we now know how accounts were getting hacked all along. Blizzard probably knew a long time ago.

I'm sure it helped the bottom line at Blizzard selling a bunch of authenticators for the past few months.

I think the physical authenticators are fine only because Vasco is subcontracted for it and the database for the serials isn't on Blizzards servers. Mobile app and dial auths are screwed and will need a software update because the hashes can't be trusted anymore.

If you use the same secret question/answer combo as any other site then you should change that shit immediately. A game where you let people create money out of nothing, no way anyone would try to hack that.

Authenticators were never bulletproof, but two factor authentication is much better than single factor. You know that right? As it stands, using SRP is nearly impossible to break. Unless they also have access to the salted-hash tables for each users password.

I know what two factor authenticator is and you typed this as I was preparing a follow up. Judging by the post they do have access to at least some of the hashed password tables. The point was that both people here and Blizzard kept blaming users for what was possibly an internal security problem. Maybe it was mostly the users fault but this should give anyone pause about making stupid assumptions in the future. They say they detected the intrusion on August 4th, who knows how long they had access before being detected? I hope they get roasted by shareholders.

Good job to the chumps who kept blaming users and insisted authenticators were bullet proof before. No way Blizzard could be the ones compromised, its just users downloading porn and torrents who don't know how to secure their computar!

Your D3 track record is pretty terrible Trollven.

Great question, StingingVelvet. They probably look at how often users access the multiplayer feature and deduct from those stats. But I'm just guessing.

They can see sales trends easily enough by how many games are reordered after the initial sales period for one. Forgetting actual data, they are also just playing on the human psyche a bit. People want to own the whole product, they don't want to think they only got a piece of it. By locking the multiplayer from used copies you're creating a false sense of increasing ownership. It also plays on most players design to socialize and play games with friends. People who might otherwise never play multiplayer will avoid a trade in because their friends might want to play it.

I'm kinda interested in this games multiplayer. I couldn't care less about Bioshock 2's multiplayer, but the environments for this one could lead to some interesting gameplay. Like the zip lines.

This is probably just me but if a game series starts out as singleplayer I rarely ever want to see multiplayer in it, no matter how well designed. It never seems to work well unless both modes are fully fleshed out in the initial design and sequels bring too much baggage for that to work well.

It does, I asked because I was in the tech test too but it was under NDA so I didn't bother mentioning it here. Higby confirmed it earlier.

The original PC release was bug filled? Really?

It was extremely buggy at release, it had all sorts of problems working on specific cards and a lot of people had slowdown/crash problems during the video segments. There were also specific crash bugs that went unpatched and only showed up at specific story segments which made the game uncompletable for some. It was many pc gamers first exposure to console ports too, sad to say.

"Apparently the marginally updated PC port of Final Fantasy VII came out today. 5 download limit, SecuROM DRM, but apparently the keys issued with the download are fake (according to SecuROM), and there's some people saying that the downloads are only good for 30 days, because digitalriver."

Sounds kinda bad, why didn't they release this on Steam since they have a good relationship with them? It's like they're doing everything possible to make sure no one buys it.

I started up a scroll 'trial' today... With the massive let down GW2 is, I'm considering picking up MoP nearish launch...

It was the opposite for me. MoP beta was boring as hell and a massive let down. Been there done that with most of the gameplay it had to offer and the only fun thing was playing with a monk for half an hour until you realize its the same ol' WOW combat system and theme park MMO styling. GW2 beta was at least somewhat fresh and the PVP was fun, they are trying new spins on things.

The MMORPG genre really needs fresh ideas though but no one will sink the money into it unless its a sure thing.

And you seem to imply that you've played in the Guild Wars 2 betas or stress tests. Which classes did you play? Up to what level? What Weaponsets did you use? What game modes did you try out? If you've actually played it, what is the quickest way to reach Lion's Arch in GW2 from anywhere?

I think it's pretty obvious at this point he's been wasting everyone's time. I doubt he played either game judging by the lack of content in his posts and his total inability to express any specific complaints about the game.

Is this on wares sites and shit yet in working order? This is the first game... ever... that I would feel okay pirating.

Not in anything but a very rough form. Just wait a year, it won't keep value like D2 did. Already down to $40-45 on some classified sites.

2. To say GW2 isn't dumbed down is suspect man, seriously. Hell you throw most people the original GW1 and they'll be confused even after they hit level 20 there's so much to learn. GW2... ya just hop in and kill shit you're AWESOME!

You're not fooling anyone with these massive posts where you dance around subjects without actually saying anything. Yes you can kill things at low levels, that's how progression works. It doesn't mean complexity is removed, far from it, as you level you gain more and more access to utility skills, traits and other skills. Name a role or combat mechanism from Guild Wars and it is represented. It is every bit as nuanced as Guild Wars was, every base is covered in skill variety. You keep saying its dumbed down but don't say how or what is missing. Dumbing down is removal of depth from a gameplay system and Guild Wars 2 does very little of that. Things have changed but change does not mean an equivalent doesn't exist. So I'll ask again, which specific gameplay mechanics were removed that turn the game from wonderful into suddenly dumbed down? You can't hide behind "you guys should know and if you dont know you're just wrong", it is extremely transparent.

And as for your 'perception' of who I speak for, I don't recall ever speaking for anyone but myself and MY admittedly circle of friends.. hmm just like you guys! But if my confidence in what I'm saying messes with confidence in yours, I cannot help you there.

That is some grade school level self-important posturing.

What's wrong with that? They gave out a bunch of free content already and it's a singleplayer story campaign DLC.
