Amazing. Now, after months of reflection, they're finally getting around to considering all the things that we begged them to do before and after the game launched. Now, the random loot table needs revamping. Now, the RMAH needs a second look. Now, Legendaries should feel special.

I haven't fired the game up in months and I can see I've missed nothing.

I thought Cataclysm was terrible and D3 was just ok and clearly released too soon, but otherwise? One of the better PC game makers in my book.

Amazing that after more than 10 years in development, the general opinion is still that D3 was released too soon.

Since 90% of the complainers on this thread clearly have not read any of the copious details already released on this game, I suggest you start here:

Then come back and post your thoughts when you actually know some of the facts.

To those that are geeking out to this, what is "Ship Insurance"?

Similar to Eve's ship insurance, you can buy insurance(which is usually not that expensive) so that if your ship is destroyed in combat, you'll get enough money back that you can replace that ship, minus the extras(weapons, armor, shields, scanners) you outfitted it with or any cargo you lost. This will apply to any ship in the game.

The only difference during the fundraising drive is that if you buy one of the pledge ships(say, a Hornet fighter) now, that ship will have free insurance(again, just the ship, not extra equipment) and hangar space forever. It's a Thank You to those who pledged money for the game's development.

Once the game ships though, even if you bought a pledge ship, if you buy a new ship in the game, you have to pay to insure it the same as any other player.

Well done, Chris.
This was the first time I kicked into a crowdfunding and it was to the guy whose games got me into PC gaming in the first place.

Now the team has to produce and the real heavy lifting begins. But Chris has a track record, a vision, passion, a working prototype, a core team that will quickly expand, and an excited fan base that's ready to jump in and help make it happen.

The next year will be a lot of fun to watch.

Sad thing is, I read this announcement and realized I just don't care any more. And I was a Blizzard fanboy. Owned 'em all. I liked SC2, but now 3 years for the next installment? No.

And the unmitigated disaster that is Diablo3...how do you screw that up?

I'm done with Blizzard, which sucks. Either I'm getting older or the games really are getting worse.

Easy way to deal with this: Stop buying EA games. Simple as that.

I haven't bought a EA title in at least five years. No sign of Origin on my HD. I miss out on Mass Effect and a few other AAA titles. Guess what? I sleep just fine at night.

You have no business complaining as long as you support EA by buying their titles. You won't change their policies as long as sales for ME or Amalur or SWTOR are still going strong. EA looks at those sales and subscriptions as acceptance of their policies. Until you learn you can do without the latest Battlefield game and hit them in the wallet, nothing will change.

This one is.

Wait, let me guess, if they changed the name to World of Simcity, you guys would be fine with it.

I doubt you even fully thought that through. If World of Simcity were an entirely separate product then yes it would be ok, people tolerate offshoots all the time.

Remember how much we loved The Sims? Great game, lots of content, endless options. We traded stories about our sims, downloaded new houses and other stuff, and made it a huge smash.

Then EA introduced The Sims Online. And it was awful. Everyone hated it. It bombed and disappeared without a trace. EA screwed up the fundamental concepts everyone loved about The Sims and took away most of the features that we loved about the first game. Making it 'connected' didn't satisfy anyone.

And now, they're screwing up the very game that made all the 'Sim' franchises possible. I guarantee this will be the last Simcity title ever. It's done with if they go through with this plan.

Eff you, EA. With no butter.

I'm really hoping this isn't true. An Elder Scrolls MMO is an absolutely terrible idea. The whole point of ES games is to make YOU feel special, unique in the game world. Another MMO with countless nerds turning in the same quest every 10 seconds will kill off any feeling of accomplishment you might have had.

Can you imagine sharing the end of Skyrim's main quest line with 30 other jerks on top of the Throat of the World?

And I really can't see Bethesda just blowing off the mod community after the years of support they've gotten. You can still play Morrowind, which is 10 years old, but have it look like an entirely new game, today with all the user-made content that's out there. You certainly couldn't have user-made mods cluttering up an MMO for obvious reasons. Is Bethesda really ready to cut off a legion of fans with this approach?

I hope not.

I agree these cuts would mostly come from customer support, but don't take this as a sign that WoW is dying. WoW is not dying. Keep in mind, back in 2004-2006, Blizzard was trying to keep up with the explosive growth and demands of WoW. Hiring was at a fever pitch. I remember the worldwide launch of Burning Crusade and being impressed with the number of people and resources being put into the effort. Good times.

Now, with more experience with the process and with subscriber numbers plateauing, Blizzard has a better plan for managing their growth, so the need for so many CS people is simply not so great anymore. Although I do wonder at the timing, as I agree that Diablo 3's launch will bring its own frenzy of issues, especially with the RMAH.

In any case, I feel for any of the employees let go, since it seems like working at Blizzard would be a dream job(if I could just get that job in the cinematics dept!).

Yes, they were developed by Origin(the brilliant games company, not the spyware/malware on your computer now), and published by EA.

Origin also created the Ultima, Wing Commander, System Shock, Privateer, Jane's Combat Simulations franchises and a lot more great titles. EA killed Origin as a company a few years after Ultima Online shipped.

For that, plus Westwood, Bullfrog, Maxis and many other companies they bought and destroyed, EA can burn in Hell in my book.

I had planned on waiting to buy this edition, but a Steam sale offered it for about half the price, so I scooped it up. Now that I've finished Skyrim, I'm just now starting FNV, and other than the forced faction choices, I really like it so far. I feel like I'm playing Fallout 2.5(not surprising since a lot of the Obsidian devs are former Black Isle employees) and it's almost a natural resumption of the feel of Fallout 2, which I played through twice.

I'm just barely out of the starting town, and looking forward to a dusty adventure. Any recommendations on where to go or who to kill?

What's really sad is watching a once-great company slowly going the way of all other companies that are swallowed up by EA. Bioware simply isn't ready for an MMO(or an RTS, for that matter) and the amount of talent and effort it will take to dig out of it is beyond them currently.

EA's stock is taking a hit today directly because of the SWTOR problems. It's not just a technical issue, but a project management issue, and closing the forums, denying people the ability to unsub, and their perceived inability to fix the latest round of problems brought on by their own patch, just smacks of panic on EA's part. This will destroy Bioware's credibility and will further damage a great IP.

Back on topic, I haven't been able to discern if the multiplayer will allow Mac users to play against PCs. Back in the day, DN3D Mac was unable to connect with the PC version, so the MP opportunities were already pretty thin. If that hasn't been addressed in this game, I can't imagine that anyone would even bother, even if the MP was better than it seems to be anyway.

From what I've read, Dukematch isn't all that great to begin with...

As of today, EA is still planning on the idiotic SecuROM DRM, and the 5-install limit. And no, uninstalling the game doesn't get you back an install.

Not buying it with that system in place, which is too bad, because the game looks great. I feel bad for EALA because they're only the devs and have no say in this idiotic corporate decision.

You sound like those kids that accused Valve of anally raping them because Half Life 2 was now being broken up into Episodes. And the basement virgins who thought they could do a better job on Diablo 3's art direction than Blizzard. As if this was a personal insult to you. Sorry, nice try but thanks for playing.

what was once a great company for gamers an is now losing their edge and only concerned with fleecing those gamers for every red cent they can get?

Here's the thing, kiddo: If you were a Starcraft or Diablo fan at all, you'll still buy the game when it comes out. You know it and I know it. But please, until then, feel free to nerd rage all you want.
