You'd be surprised at the difference between listening to the crowd through the tv and being on the pitch itself. A lot of the time you will not hear whistles from the crowd on the pitch - the other noise (boos/chants/singing/etc) drowns it out, and the referee's whistle is much more audible above this.

But I guess that adding a helmet with padding and some football players not used to whistling and it may well get a bit confusing.

SingStar is awesome - the sole reason we bought a PS2! I can't believe this isn't available in the US, although it may just be something about the British (and Europeans) getting together and getting drunk then doing SingStar...

This happened in 2002 at the airshow in my hometown of Lowestoft, Suffolk, UK. Was the second greatest thing to happen in Lowestoft, after The Darkness were formed

> Yeah but as a seven year old... pretty impressive.

Not really. 1.4 miles in 47 minutes is not that fast, simply endurance. Especially if the water is warm and calm.

Try these for the English channel:
(from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_Channel#By_swimming )

In July 1972, Lynne Cox became the youngest person to swim the English Channel at age fifteen, breaking both the men's and women's records. She swam the channel again in 1973, setting a new record time of nine hours and thirty-six minutes.

The oldest male swimmer to cross is American George Brunstad, who was aged 70 years and 4 days when he crossed on the 27th and 28th of August 2004, taking 15 hours 59 min.

The fastest swim of the channel was by Christof Wandratsch in 2005. He crossed the channel in 7 hours 3 minutes and 52 seconds.

Swimming from Alcatraz? FFS, get a grip! I've been to SF a couple of times and although the currents look quite strong it's not much of a distance as you can see the land from the island and they even wear wet suits!

You should try a real challenge like our national custom - swim the English channel between England and France. It's 26 miles and so far over the horizon that you can't actually see where you're going. No wet suits allowed, just cover yourself in lard and hope for the best.

The TG team have filmed enough footage for the future series, so yes Clarkson is having his back sorted (prolly too much thumping his GT40 after it goes back for the Nth time to have the alarm fixed...) but it won't affect the tv schedule.

Thanks for all the kinds thoughts - it's been one hell of a day here in London. I work between Liverpool St and Aldgate, two of the main sites. Luckily I get the overground train rather than the underground where most of the bombs were.

Makes you realise how luck can deal you a good hand now and then.

My thoughts go out to those who have lost loved ones and takes my mind back to watching the TV and fearing for friends in NY all those years ago.

We're still here. We still will be. Terrorists do not win.

An impressive (and correct, imho) attitude to take there by Mr Carmack.

However, one can't help wondering if he would feel the same if he was back to square one with no money and people ripping his work off left, right and centre...

34 perfect - 68% - 292 miles - 421 secs.

Aha! Yes, that's exactly what I did, so I'll give it a try with installing CS as well and see if that works...
