More and more disappointing, not only did they fail to fulfil their initial promise of delivering a game (it was but a demo), not only did they only delivered a third of the contents on the 2nd release date, but now they reschedule what is only the second part.

Next time I'll just wait until it's actually out there too, I'm a customer and not an investor :p

It's "better than *its* counterparts", no verb in there. Common mistake, but a mistake nonetheless.

3D is just a distraction, also I'd rather they kept good quality contents and didn't sacrifice part of the budget for this silliness.

Hopefully the film industry will realise that eventually.

102. Re: Ubisoft: Play Assassin's Creed 3 PC With A Controller Mar 31, 2012, 03:46 nofb
A bit in advance for April fool's day, but an interesting hoax nevertheless

No, if it's actually coming from Ubisoft and not a hoax (which I'm really not convinced), it would even be smart from them. This will obviously make quite a buzz - already is -, then all they'd have to do is publish an official statement that, "in order to respect their fans, they finally decided to include PC mouse and keyboard support in their last game". Free advertising, and what a way to restore a bit of their fame after the DRM mess they got into.

At any rate, I don't believe one moment that if they went into the trouble of publishing a PC version of the game, they wouldn't also add the code (that they already have, remember the other titles of the franchise?) to offer keyboard and mouse support. Without that, it wouldn't even be interesting to try and sell a crippled game in the PC market.

Well, if John Carmack doesn't see the PC as the leading platform for games, PC owners won't see id games as the appropriate choice for them

Not that those games are very interesting anyway, one or two of that style were enough, now it's getting embarrassing. Yes, after all they might be just good for consoles.

Don't buy in the shops mentioned in this article, not if you're in Europe. They're incredibly expensive, especially JoWooD and Steam!

Try Amazon instead.

Darwinia is a fun, refreshing game, one of the few that doesn't just rely on 3D to be called a game. I can hardly wait Subversion to be available, it looks like they are doing a great job there too!

... and yeah, I hope it'll be funnier than the other Subversion

Go Mafia 2! Playing the original (free with Steam preorder of Mafia 2), bolstered with a dozen mods to make it look more modern, and I gotta say it has held up extremely well. Great atmosphere, great story, great game.

Hm, unfortunately the demo was completely unstable here, frozes every now and then. Controls are kind of awkward too, you have to stand on the exact spot for the doors / switches to activate. Too bad, it did look fun.

@Jay: It's a breakdown, not absolute figures. It just means the main bulk of the sales is now on the XBox platform.

I certainly hope their DRM and frame of mind regarding their customers cost them and set an example, though, but that's wishful thinking as long as people keep buying their products.

News Comments > Dragon Age: Origins Patch
5. Re: Dragon Age: Origins Patch Dec 18, 2009, 12:23 nofb
Dragon Age: Origins 1.02

Many of the fixes affecting balance, gameplay, or plot scripting are already
included in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 versions of Dragon Age: Origins.

- Daggers now apply 0.5 points of damage per additional point in dexterity and
0.5 points of damage per additional point in strength, as originally intended.
This increases dagger damage for high-dexterity characters.
- During combat, mana or stamina reserves now correctly regenerate more quickly
when reserves are low. This allows players to occasionally use an talent or
spell in the later stages of lengthy fights.
- When exploring, mana and stamina now regenerate more quickly at higher
character levels. This reduces downtime between fights.
- The spells Force Field, Crushing Prison, Cone of Cold, and Blizzard now have
shorter durations and/or longer cooldowns. This ensures that combatants can no
longer stun-lock each other by repeatedly casting the same spell.
- The cooldowns for several low-level sustained abilities are now shorter. This
ensures that players are not penalized for accidentally deactivating them.
- Certain battles were not scaling properly, resulting in excessively difficult
fights. They now scale as intended.
- Enemy corpses now drop health poultices and money more appropriately,
resulting in less clutter in the player's inventory.

- In rare cases, enemy corpses were selectable when they contained no loot.
This no longer occurs.
- Party members whose combat tactics were set to defensive behavior no
longer stop attacking after using a spell or talent.
- In rare cases, combat tactics conditions could fail to determine whether a
character had enough mana or stamina to use an ability. This no longer occurs.
- The Rally talent no longer repeats its audio effect if it is active during
certain conversations.
- The Rally talent no longer deactivates upon area transitions or conversations.
- The Shimmering Shield spell now deactivates when the character is out of mana.

- Promotional downloadable content items now remain in the player's inventory
when standard items are removed at the end of the dwarf noble origin.
- Repeatedly talking to Duncan after gathering the vials in the Korcari Wilds
but not the treaties no longer provides duplicate experience.
- Leliana's personal plot can now be completed if the player substantially
increased her approval (through gifts) before talking to her.
- During the siege of Redcliffe, enemies are no longer able to spawn in
locations that would break the plot.
- Bann Teagan no longer disappears when he is supposed to be accessible during
Urn of Sacred Ashes.

- Controlling a summoned creature (like a ranger's pets) during certain special
area transitions no longer results in odd behavior.
- Creating a character in a custom module did not create a folder for saves.
This could result in corruption of main campaign saves. This no longer occurs.
- In some cases, the class icon was set incorrectly for characters imported
from the downloadable Character Creator. This no longer occurs.
- The options menu now includes a setting to automatically download previously
purchased content that is not currently installed.
- After installing new downloadable content, the game now always reminds the
user to restart the game.
- The icons for some promotional downloadable content items were missing. They
now appear correctly.
- Various issues could occasionally cause uploads to the online player profile
to fail unexpectedly. This no longer occurs.

News Comments > Need for Speed: SHIFT Demo
27. Re: NFS: SHIFT Demo Sep 19, 2009, 05:08 nofb
Yes, I suppose it needs a little getting used to.

I have another issue with this demo. For a 1-GB download, I would have preferred not to have to endure the long and repeatitive game ad between every single race, it's very annoying and I hope it's not a sign of what is to come with the full game.

Usually it's just a few screenshot luring you into buying the full game, shown before quitting. Here it's just plain invasive. The only way out is to switch to Windows and kill the process, usually is faster than waiting between races (but then you'll lose your points).

Another case of how badly marketing guys can mar a very good game, it's the new fashion

The demo gives a good feeling of what the game is like though, so I guess it's worth the download if you have a fast connection, despite this ad cockup.

Great, as expected

And also this, as expected (though the embedded adware will surely be more explicitly stated in the manual of the full version):

News Comments > Need for Speed: SHIFT Specs & DRM
7. Re: Need for Speed: SHIFT Specs & DRM Sep 5, 2009, 04:36 nofb
The issue here is not so much the DRM as the adaptative in-game advertisement system, from Massive (Microsoft). System that EA refuse to confirm even though the deal was made public days ago (granted, it wasn't a press release so perhaps it wasn't supposed to be known - unless I missed it).

I keep wondering why we have to buy the game and open the box before knowing it is an adware, not even sure this is really legal, but as long as there are buyers...

It's just disgusting.
