Yep it's a good game. 1.5hrs in, good atmosphere, good "shock moments" just like in the first Dead Space, good SE and music to each scene. Nice crafting system. I'm quite happy with it, hard is actually hard no hand-holding either. Mileage may vary, but over all I'd put it in 9/10 material. IGN just being whiners over it. I haven't run across any bugs perse either.

Awesome thanks for the info, looking forward to it.

Fair enough then, though I'm still not convinced there's a genuine media conspiracy or campaign here.

People tend to use the word conspiracy because its loaded and implies something. I don't think there was a "conspiracy", there was certainly a concerted effort to censor people who disagreed with them though. It's well covered online and I literally witnessed it taking place on Twitter, Reddit and several gaming websites, the few that actually reported on it. It's also no coincidence that press coverage of everything has been ridiculous to say the least and that they all went to press almost simultaneously with the same type of crap (later revealed to be coming from a mailing list they were all on!). So yeah, maybe not a "conspiracy" but calling it "activism" seems too tame for what happened.

Nothing will get resolved because you can't have meaningful discussion with the people doing that kind of thing, they weren't interested in it to begin with. Agree with me or else isn't a discussion and that's why they're getting so much shit from everyone now. They misrepresented "issues", engaged in censorship, colluded to some extent and have the nerve to talk down to other people about morals.

So yeah they can get lost, let's get back to gaming which is way more progressive a hobby in terms of social issues than it gets credit for.

On the other hand as a result of coin miners, the price of the 780 Ti cards might plummet. If it's miners driving the prices up, the 780 Ti could end up cheaper than the 970. Given how much more power efficient the 900 series is than the 700 series, any miners using GPUs will need one, but power is not much of a concern to gamers.

I doubt it, retailers don't tend to keep a lot of videocard inventory on hand because of how volatile the market is. There will be some discounts to get rid of stock but don't expect deep discounts on older cards.

Except I snagged a 780 for under $300 recently (New, ASUS Direct CUII OC).. The 780Ti already was around $430 new as of a week ago.

Foot in mouth then!

Maybe, but that doesn't mean it should work both ways. It shouldn't work at all. You lose credibility when you imply otherwise.

I'll let ASeven worry about his own credibility, in any case in the context of your original quote I reiterate that one group has engaged in actual censorship here and the other has not. So to me its not about two groups yelling about censorship, its about one group actually censoring another and getting appropriately taken to task for it. That's amongst other things obviously.

He's not really in a position to, either. The phrasing implied he would if he could.

That's theoretical, there has been actual censorship from the SJWs already which is what I was referring to.

Also lol, Social Justice Warrior Crusaders! Where's my tabard, it'll have a picture of a woman being oppressed by a gamer.

Morality Brigade works better IMO.

Have your opinions, but don't go thinking nobody else can have theirs because they're not the same as yours. That stupid shit benefits no one.

The difference is that he didn't engage in actual censorship, unlike the SJW crusaders.

This conversation is literally two sets of people decrying censorship while telling others to keep their opinions to themselves.

It's more like one set of people saying the others opinion is stupid while the other preaches about morality then tries to censor the former.

So, broken AI on the one hand, great dynamic AI on the other? One of these two is lying.

Or the AI is very dynamic and people are having varying experiences with it. I find some of the Ars writers to be pretty poor "gamers" and often their complaints seem like scapegoating bad player habits. It's quite possible Sam at Ars was making mistakes he didn't realize or to be fair, perhaps the guy at PC Gamer is fluffing it up because he didn't understand the interactions that well.

I think it took a month for the 760 to appear last time so I am holding off to see what the performance is like with the 960 variant.

The 980 Ti variant is probably way more than I want to spend. 4k gaming eludes me for another year

Because that UI is ancient, being very close to 19 years old now, and it is no longer suited to the way modern computing works. Yet there are people who still insist that a UI that was designed for a single screen running at 800x600 is still the greatest thing ever. To me, it's funny in the same way that old guys bitch and carp about how much "better" it was when engines still had carburetors and how "easier" they were to work on.

It costs a lot of money to retrain employees on new user interfaces and many people don't seek this stuff out as a hobby in their spare time. A user interface can be very efficient regardless of age.

People knock on the Windows Start Menu but it works for many users because they don't always know what they're looking for and that's key. That's why the Windows 8 Start Menu approach with the "just type and find what you want" failed. Sometimes people need a visual representation of what they're looking for.

I do most of my interaction through the CLI and taskbar pins but I can recognize the value in other UI aspects.

The reviews for the most part seem pretty positive and several of the negatives I've seen are from authors that seem to dislike survival horror so I'm pretty stoked to play it.

Man thats such a cool story. UO was the shit! Why cant they make games like that anymore? Heaven forbid that people actually discover emergent gameplay outside the box, or use the game to earn some hard cash.

Err well technically I was breaking the EULA I guess but the landscape was different back then for selling things out of the game. eBay didn't police anything and people were paying hundreds for a tower plot outside of a main town. It was kinda nuts.

Anyways back to ArcheAge, hows the PvP? PvE stuff bores the crap out of me in MMOs. What's the model here, is it freeform or designated zones, arenas, etc?

I would happily pay a sub fee for the site FWIW but the whole backend would probably need an overhaul to accommodate it.

I hope if you ever reach the point where things become dicey that you would let people donate to help out, I would hate to see the site go down like many others have over the years.
